To accomplish this step lateral and dip your shoulder to reduce the surface area your opponent can use to seal you from your gap. Step 2: Read the adjacent blocker Transfer your eyes from the primary blocker to the adjacent blocker so you can react appropriately to his block. On this play, since the adjacent blocker pulls the proper reaction is to get vertical. Step 3: 2nd Step Vertical In order to disrupt the pin and pull you need to get vertical. This will put you in the path of the RB and in prime position for a TFL.

THOUGHTS ON 3 BALL STEALS 1) As a base runner treat the 3 ball steal as a hit & run. You CANNOT get picked. 2) If it’s not a ball or if it is not hit, good chance you will be thrown out. 3) Roll your head to pick up contact to avoid being deked by the middle infielders(Somewhere between 1st & 3rd step) 4) Careful not to come off the base on your slide. Even on ball 4 if you over slide you are out. 5) Give the hitter steal verses giving him hit & run. On 3 ball hit & runs, hitters occasionally lose the count & swing at ball four. 6) This is basically a run & hit w/o a + jump at 1B. Our hope is the hitter gets a good pitch to hit & is able to drive the ball in the gap or walk if it is a ball.

In the outfield if you open up to one side of a hard hit ball & the ball is on the opposite side just rotate your head to the ball verses trying to turn your entire body back to the ball. Taking your eyes off the ball briefly & having body control is more efficient than watching the ball all the way & not be in control of your movements.
