We had the pleasure of interviewing Ron Frost, Head Coach of Nicholls Softball, who shared his unique story and the “why” behind what fuels his passion for college athletics. Coach Ron is a college baseball player turned college softball coach. The Atlanta native was a pitcher for Alabama State Baseball, and after his playing days he pursued coaching within the baseball program. Frost went on to start a travel ball organization in Alabama and work in sports turf management before finding his way to coaching softball at Vernon College Athletics. In 2022, Frost came to Nicholls as an assistant and was named Head Softball Coach earlier this summer. We look forward to sharing highlights of our conversation with Frost over the next few weeks! I was asked to write a bio of myself on SportsRecruits. I wanted share what I wrote. I love this one and those in it. • • • OLYMPIC DREAMS. I was 12 years old when I lost my starting position at shortstop, and lost my way into the batting lineup as well. I know it sounds silly being at such a young age, but to me; at the time, it was devastating. If not for my faith in God and my family… I’m not sure if I would be here writing this bio of mine. Hello! My name is Grace Varua. I am 16 years old and currently a sophomore at Pope John High School in Sparta, NJ. I started playing softball when I was 7 years old (video) When I am not playing High School softball Pope John Softball I play for Unity Torres 2028 primarily as a catcher and 3B as my secondary. MY hopes; after you have read, is to feel who I am through this quick bio of myself. Hence, the reason why I started this bio the way I did. A quick backdrop to my story. When this all happened at 12 years old, I wasn’t quite sure how to handle it. I was broken. My parents made it super simple for me. My choices were to quit or get back to work and prove to myself and to “the world” that my story was not finished. My parents have also taught me, that having goals or being goal oriented is super important. Goals give us a sense of purpose or meaning while we sweat and work hard. Goals gives myself an opportunity to plan and stay organized. Most importantly, goals gives myself perspective in paying respect to the time and effort given to me by my coaches, players of my team and parents. Goals keep me disciplined to fight through when I’m tired and all I want to do is rest and pack it in. So I picked a goal that I felt would represent the pinnacle of my sport. That being, to be a member of USA’s Women’s Olympic National Team. USA Softball Women's National Team 🇺🇸 Some may say a far-fetched goal, but I think otherwise. I was taught the philosophy of the 100 hour rule. Roughly 18 minutes a day training for 1 year. Gives myself the opportunity to outperform 95% of the population in my craft. Whether that stands true or not. This philosophy is more about staying disciplined. I can humbly and honestly say, I exceed that 18 minutes and then-some for the reason of hoping to represent my country one day. I’ve been able to catch some of the best youth pitchers in the game of club softball right now. Like Sydney Gonglik (LSU committ) Madelyn Vogan (Penn State committ) Mackenzie Herzog 2028 (Alabama Thunderbolts Premier ‘27) Future big time pitchers Lucy Reis 2029 and Lila Manfredonia 2028 (Ohio Outlaws Wolff/Acord ‘28) Anna Jane (AJ) Jarzab (Beverly Bandits ‘09 Lewis/ Moran) Liv Cilli (Providence Committ), Reese Tobey (UMass committ) and all my current pitchers on UNITY Torres ‘28 Joselyn Bermudez 2028, Adrianna Bryce ,Maddie Falvey 2028 , Gabby Gomez Gabby Perez and OliviaMVidela2028 It has been a blessing to work side by side with all of them. I am the catcher today because of them, my coaches and trainers. I am so thankful to each and every one of them. I have achieved and experienced some awesome things at my age. I made my High School Varsity team as a freshman, was a freshman 1st team All-Conference player, I hit back to back home-runs to help Pope John get to, and win our NJ County Championship in 2025. I am a 4x USA HPP (High Performance Program) invite, USA Softball’s 15U Top Performer and 15U National Team Member. I traveled, played and trained overseas in Paris and the Netherlands. I’ve been able to catch some of the best youth pitchers in the game of club softball right now. Like Sydney Gonglik (LSU committ) Madelyn Vogan (Penn State committ) Mackenzie Herzog 2028 (Alabama Thunderbolts Premier ‘27) Future big time pitchers Lucy Reis 2029 and Lila Manfredonia 2028 (Ohio Outlaws Wolff/Acord ‘28) Anna Jane (AJ) Jarzab (Beverly Bandits ‘09 Lewis/ Moran) Liv Cilli (Providence Committ), Reese Tobey (UMass committ) and all my current pitchers on UNITY Torres ‘28 Joselyn Bermudez 2028, Adrianna Bryce ,Maddie Falvey 2028 , Gabby Gomez Gabby Perez and OliviaMVidela2028 It has been a blessing to work side by side with all of them. I am the catcher today because of them, my coaches and trainers. I am so thankful to each and every one of them. I have achieved and experienced some awesome things at my age. I made my High School Varsity team as a freshman, was a freshman 1st team All-Conference player, I hit back to back home-runs to help Pope John get to, and win our NJ County Championship in 2025. I am a 4x USA HPP (High Performance Program) invite, USA Softball’s 15U Top Performer and 15U National Team Member. I traveled, played and trained overseas in Paris and the Netherlands. I have a 3.9 G.P.A, I have an amazing older sister and younger brother. I have the best parents in the world and I have GOD with me each and every step of the way through this journey! NEW: Student athlete left paralyzed after he was shot at a Waffle House while coming to his friend’s aid. 18-year-old Seth Jackson had reportedly tried helping his friend who was being attacked by a group of teens. When one of the teens pulled a gun out, Jackson started running but was then shot as he tried running away, his family says. The Richardson, Texas teen will never walk again. There are 362 NCAA Division I head men’s basketball coaching positions in the country. I don’t take for granted how fortunate I am to be offered the opportunity to lead one of these programs, specifically, Houston Christian University (HCU). First, I want to thank the Lord for this opportunity. I want to thank HCU President Dr. Sloan, Director of Athletics Steve Moniaci, Deputy Athletic Director Stan Williamson, and James and Ann Bryant. All five of you have played a vital role in allowing my family the opportunity to move to Houston to join your prestigious institution. Thanks for your belief in me and our vision to reimagine and reinvigorate the men’s basketball program. I would like to thank and honor Coach Ron Cottrell and his coaching staffs who spent the last 33 years leading the HCU basketball program. This includes long-time assistants Steven Key and Jud Kinne as well as many other assistants. Ron and his staff dominated the NAIA and Red River Conference days of the 90’s and early 2000’s. They fearlessly led the program back to the NCAA Division I level, through the probationary period, to the Great West Conference, and to the Southland Conference. It is a privilege to follow Coach Cottrell and build on his body of work. I am grateful for the previous colleges and universities who afforded me the opportunity to lead their programs. Rock Valley College, Graceland University, and most recently and for the last six years, Emporia State University. I will be posting an in-depth message thanking some specific people who changed my life from Emporia State in the coming days. In the meantime, I want to express my gratitude for your support and love during our ESU tenure. The Emporia community is incredible. Alexys and I not only raised our four children in the community but we also watched your children grow, too. It was a special time in our family’s life. 5 years 🐭 • 5 years I’ve been sick and injured from this poison • 5 years I’ve been mainly bedbound and unable to work as a RN, where before my jab I was once healthy, in the best shape of my life & ready to start a family • Now I’m 40, disabled & can barely do my Activities of Daily Living • I am around 25-30% functional on a good day with having only about 4-5 good days in a month • I still have spike protein persistence 5 years later and will continue to produce them until i die bc there is no off switch- i also have t cell depletion along with CD3, CD4, & CD 8 cells- so it has wiped out my immune system completely- aka VAIDS • Before becoming a nurse, I was blessed naturally with a freakish athletic ability and talent • Any sport I played I excelled in, especially softball, basketball and volleyball - I started playing softball when I was 4 years old •In high school i lettered in varsity Volleyball, Basketball, and softball all 4 years. I earned so many accolades in softball and was a super star in my state—I was a 4 time all county, 4 time all conference, 2 time all region, 2 time All state shortstop and pitcher, County player of the year, and 2 time State Champion 👊✊ • Those were the happiest days of my life. After high school I went on to play college softball at a D2 school instead of going professional or playing D1 to be close to my family after my moms death my senior year. • I played 2 years of college ball and broke a few records my freshman year one being stolen base record: I was quick like lightning and my fastest time clocked in running to first base was 2.78 seconds in 40 feet 🐭 Of course I was lead off batter. I would get on base, steal 2nd and 3rd and would get hit home to score every time😃 I was also being scouted to play professional softball but pursued being a nurse instead. • I am now confirmed, diagnosed and a documented adverse reaction to the mRNA vaccine with temporal association due to symptoms occurring 8 hours after my injection • My past medical history only consisted of a pollen allergy which I took daily Claritin for, mono as a teen and chicken pox as a child—That’s it —No surgeries, or other problems • I now suffer not only with being in cytokine storm, but also a bunch of new onset diagnosis that it has caused—POTS (postural Orthostatic tachycardia syndrome) , MCAS (mast cell activation syndrome) Mthfr gene mutation, tremors, muscle mass loss, neurocognitive issues, monocyte and macrophage activation with all three monocyte likes expressing S1 Vax spike, mitochondrial failure, nitric oxide pathway failure, shingles, ebv reactivated, hot flashes, ovarian failure, severe adrenal insufficiency, leaky gut, hypertension, inappropriate sinus tach with pacs, pvcs, and ventricular trigeminy, adhd, depression, anxiety, ptsd, ocd, extensive hair loss alopecia, skin rashes and bumps, syncope, dizziness, tinnitus, shortness of breath on exertion , amyloid fibrin micro clots and activated platelet cascade, joint pain and swelling, palpitations and the list goes on • I speak out about my injury bc this poison needs pulled from the shelves ASAP and investigated because it is a threat to my posterity 💜Just Keep Swimming💜 Nurse Lyndsey (video is from summer 2022– when i was able to formulate a sentence again i haven’t stopped speaking out since)
