Common pokeball knowledge: timer balls don't work on turn 247 in gen 3

Do they work on turn 248?

Timer balls first cap at 4x rate on turn 31, then break on turn 247. After that, they gain about 1/10th of a pokeball’s effectiveness til turn 255, then they cap at 0.9x a pokeball’s effectiveness forever (they never fully recover)

Is there a reason why it's always 255 with these kinda glitches? Also thanks for the follow back goat.

Its because 2^8 =256 so when computers count in binary thats how high they can get with 8 digits

@Sandshark199 so why does it break on 247?

@Sandshark199 Because the particular formula for timer ball is roughly Bonus=Turn + 9

They’re calling him the world’s sleepiest Zigzagoon

A very relatable problem most definitely

Bro, got literal ball knowledge. 💀

It happen to me all the time

I assume that would normally be 100% catch rate past a certain point when its not turn 247

Nah it caps at 4x catch rate relative to a pokeball

Yeah I hate when it happens to me.

Why does that happen?

Roughly because Timer Ball's bonus is "turn number + 9", but the game can only count that bonus up to 255, so on turn 247 wraps back to 0 (oversimplified)

common????

Common knowledge. I mean I knew it from my first playthrough, I just wanted to see if YOU knew.

The heck you mean common lol

Common?

Common ??

I hate it when this happens

mind over matter!

That's some obscure shit.

I thought timer balls were gen 4 onwards 😅

I didn't even know there were timer balls in gen 3, wtf?

Imo thats why I try to use the timer ball earlier in the battle.

This is the first one of these I actually knew, haha! And Love Balls being glitched in gen 2 so they don't work on the opposite gender.

pokeball tricks youre never taught in school

Overflow error?

Who do you invoice for your time spent researching this?

I love binary overflow errors

you testing the other gens as well?

@grok what should the catch rate be on turn 247 using a timer ball

1 byte problem I guess, what is happening in the code to break at 247 and not 255 or 256*?

the audacity to even test that on turn 247 is sending me

how can you even
