One is artisanal, the other is industrial. The artisanal only needs capital to scale, the knowledge is there. What was your point?

@brosobio Okomu Oil has had a self-powering mill since the early 90s. They are in Edo State, Nigeria. Nigerians make up the overwhelming majority of the workers there.

Nothing to compare really - different scale of operations. We have those two types of operations here in Nigeria - JB Farms, Presco, Okomu etc

Companies like okomu oil, presco plc, siat oil palm,jb farms all have mechanised systems here in nigeria…e no go far…make una rate nigeria small abeg

The is small scale vs industrial. In Nigeria I know not Okomu oil in Delta state, this your second slide is not even close to what they built there and it is managed and serviced by Nigerians.

😂to set up the 2nd slide you have to be massively loaded. These are the type of things the governments should invest in. But they rather export and import back the finished product when they can actually establish the same production plant in Nigeria and earn massively.

We still live like slaves in free time. This was what slaves did

I like the conversation but the comparison is not balanced, the first slide should be compared with a 1 to 2 ton per hour automated mill, which is something we should be using now not the outdated method that still makes up the majority of how we process our palm oil in 🇳🇬

Everyone is saying the scale is different. Is this about the scale or the conditions for workers, the hygiene and safety of the product to consumers and the total lack of regulations. Why should anyone be consuming palm oil produced in such condition in 2026???

Nothing to compare and contrast abeg. One is in large scale, cause the finance is there. The other, small scale cause of little finance Invest in the small scale and watch them go mechanized also.

If you go the pressco palm oil company in Edo-state, you will see that your second frame is still very much underfunded. My point is, people will always make do with what they have/given. If I have 5m that can set up a local mill, should I not do it?

Difference is funds and technical know-how Small scale and large scale processing. You people should stop all this nonsense comparison. There are palm oil processing factories in Edo state that can least fit into this conversation.

There's nothing to contrast here, both videos show palm oil extraction at different scales of operation. The first is a local mill and will produce very little withing a long period of time while the other will produce enough to serve a community in large scale withing a short while... Nigeria also have bigger factories that make this in Edo

I see one set of people with Joy and laughter and community Social attributes that have been studied in Harvard and other universities and are increasingly rare in capitalist and western cultures, but key for sustainable productivity I see another set with more limited range of human interaction I see one set with more opportunities for employment and another with lower employment because machines Half full, half empty

There are two different factors here, and a common concept between both. They both have the skills of producing palm oil but the difference is the technology advancement. If the former is being empowered with the right resources, trust them to do better than the latter. My 2cent

There are big companies in Nigeria with similar processes. But would you buy it? Because it is more expensive.

What a d*mb comparison. Every country has artisanal workers. You you would still find companies in the country on the right that use the equipment in your comparison for their production 😒

You’re using industrial scale production to compare what an individual with no financial aid is doing on his own capacity? This is like comparing KFC and the woman that sells akara by the road side. They’re so apart.

The scale is different. We have that level of mechanize farm in Nigeria too.

Honeybadger's profile picture

The other happens over here too. Companies like Rivers Palm and Bayelsa Palm are that industrialised. And the crazy thing is that they even export too. And the reverse also happens there too. Production is production.

comparing a modular refinery to industrial processing facility? there are lots of large scale oil processing facilities in our backyard anyway. the likes of Chicason, Okomu etc. care to share what your exact point is ?
