David Lean explains how one can learn Filmmaking by watching movies and what constitutes a good movie: "Interviewer: Do you believe that the same principles are involved in making a good amateur film as a good professional film? Interviewer: Then you believe that the amateur can learn something about film technique from watching good professional movies? David Lean: Certainly, if he watches them in the proper way. Ronin is just another example of the depth & quality of Robert De Niro’s filmography. It was the late ‘90s & De Niro teamed up with director John Frankenheimer, who dove head-first into practical filmmaking. Frankenheimer didn’t take a single shortcut in making this movie & I’ve always felt like that’s the reason this is such a timeless espionage film. Not only is the story well-done (co-written by David Mamet, who sort of owned the ‘90s) but Frankenheimer made everything as real as possible, and you feel that authenticity when you watch this movie. Are we really worried about this as movie fans? The Odyssey is a 3,000 year old mythological story with a Cyclops, sorceress, sirens, and Poseidon. It’s complete fiction, just set in a vaguely specific time period. It’s only ever been “accurate” to the time it was written and was passed down for years before being put to paper. So yeah, I would say everyone gets to take their artistic liberties with it. The original author Homer did. Why can’t Nolan? It’s not like he has them driving Cybertrucks and tweeting about their journey home. Lighten up people! It’s a movie, not a history book. And it looks awesome. Let’s have some fun with it and appreciate what we have. I agree with Films at Home (Jeff Rauseo) and it’s a Christopher Nolan film 🎥

When I watch the James Talarico clip of him saying he loves trans children, I think, "What a creep, what a groomer." David French wrote a glowing piece about Talarico's "Christianity." I have to ask you, David, what is Christian about advocating for queer theory and the transgender ideology to be inflicted on the minds, bodies, and souls of children? How is it loving to affirm the delusion of precious, young children who are innocently confused about gender by advocating that they irreversibly butcher and mutilate their own bodies? James Talarico is not Christian. He does not embody Christianity. He does not embody decency. He embodies the opposite. I can think of very few people in the conservative movement who have disappointed me more than this devolution of David French. We don't have to agree on all political positions or political strategy, but to try to whitewash James Talarico's openly evil positions and comments that are in direct opposition to the word of God about being decent and Christian...
