It would take 3.7 trillion pounds of materials to generate half of U.S. electricity with 1,095,000 2 MW wind turbines. Each turbine requires 1,671 tons of material: 1,300 tons concrete, 295 tons steel, 48 tons iron, 24 tons fiberglass, 4 tons copper, 0.4 tons neodymium, and 0.065 tons dysprosium, replaced every 15-20 years. Mining and ore processing, is the second most polluting industry in the world, releasing acid rain and heavy metals into land, water, and air. Extracting and processing dispersed minerals consumes significant fossil fuel energy. Billions more tons of materials are needed for transmission, power plants, and utility-scale batteries, also replaced every 15-20 years. The green energy dream remains just that—a dream.

Wind turbine blades are built with balsa wood which is obtained by deforestation of the Amazon rainforest. They have an operational lifespan of up to 25 years. It is estimated that globally, around 43 million tons of wind turbine blade waste could pile up by 2050. Producing the polysilicon alone consumes thousands of tons of quartz, coal, petroleum, coke, charcoal and wood chips. Refining the silver for one gigawatt uses roughly 4,600 megawatt hours of electricity, the annual power use of 400 US homes. Producing the aluminum consumes nearly 2 million gigajoules of energy, enough to power more than 100,000 households for a year. Solar power is built with massive fossil energy inputs. Only the output is labelled 'green'. These are the realities campaigners never want to talk about.

Trillions of dollars are being poured into wind and solar. But these technologies are far from green. Each turbine requires hundreds of tons of steel, concrete, and rare earths. Each solar panel relies on energy-intensive mining and toxic chemical processing. Scaling this up to replace fossil fuels would mean billions of tons of new mining, scarred landscapes, and enormous fossil energy inputs just to manufacture the equipment. Thinking that country can run on breezes is worse than delusional A two-megawatt windmill is made up of 260 tons of steel that required 300 tons of iron ore and 170 tons of coking coal, all mined, transported and produced by hydrocarbons. They each consume 10'000 liters (more than 2600 gallons) of crude oil based lubricants per year. When outdated, the wind turbines are being buried deep in forests, out of public view, due to the high costs associated with recycling them. A windmill could spin until it falls apart and it will NEVER, EVER generate as much energy as it was used in building it.
