Lecturers used to tell us at Uni "we are not here to teach you computer science, we are here to teach you how to teach yourselves as whatever we could teach you today will be replaced in just a few years". It is more about engineering, constantly evolving architecture, design, building, testing and fault diagnosis. A lot is abstract, right brain thinking outside the box. finding the cause of seemingly impossible problems every day. Coding is only a small part.

I had Hal Abelson as my Cosci professor. It was a tough course. Great guy, autographed my text book.

I agree CS is not a real science, but I disagree it's not about computers. In fact, all knowledge about computers (including hardware) is CS. Most of it is out of the reach of most "computer scientists", however.

When I studied CS many yrs ago, it felt like studying linguistics but for computers 😅😅😅 I guess that’s how people feel when studying Math at the University.
