Congress doesn't work because members spend too much time on POLITICS and not enough on POLICY. We had eight bipartisan bills before the HELP Committee today. Bills that help Americans get a life-saving organ transplant; increase access to affordable drugs; and support mothers and babies through healthy pregnancy. Many... of these should be easy bills to move through the Committee quickly. Unfortunately, Senator Sanders wants to sabotage all of that, introducing irrelevant partisan amendments to some of these bills. Amendments he knows will prevent these bills from passing the Committee and the Senate. It’s a messaging stunt. It’s grinding the HELP Committee to a halt rather than passing simple, commonsense bills that help people.show more

Tonight, the Senate passed three more FY26 appropriations bills with a strong bipartisan vote of 82-15. This fiscally responsible package includes the Commerce, Justice, Science, and Related Agencies; Energy and Water Development; and Interior, Environment, and Related Agencies funding bills. These bills contain important provisions to support state and local law enforcement, scientific research, economic development, national security, and our coastal communities. After months of bipartisan, bicameral negotiations, and following the House’s overwhelming approval of 397–28, these bills reflect input from members on both sides of the aisle and both chambers of Congress. Their becoming law shows that we as a Congress can come together in a bipartisan way and deliver true results for the people we are honored to represent.

JUST IN: Govt has lost no time in transmitting #NREGA repeal Bill to #RajyaSabha and will take it up today itself. At 5pm, MPs were told that they have till 5.45pm to submit any amendments (some MPs had proactively submitted amendments already, which is smart!). 8 hours allotted for debate. An MP raised a point of order that in the Business Advisory Committee, no time was allotted for this Bill. It seems that Chair came prepared to respond to this point of order. He immediately rattled out a list of Govt Bills in past which were also brought to House without time being allotted for the same! But this is not 'convention', these are bad and wrong precedents. For these few names of Bills that Chair read out (of which most were from after 2014), thousands of Bills would have been taken up after allocating time in BAC, which is how it should be. BAC is also where Govt and Opposition try to reach some consensus on Bills, sending Bills to Committees etc. Why was this 'convention' not followed? Also, any wrong in the past doesn't justify another wrong now! #Parliament #WinterSession
