Addis Ababa is more than a capital. It is a vision in motion, a gateway to Ethiopia’s future! As the beating heart of a rapidly transforming nation, Addis Ababa embodies our bold ambition for inclusive and forward-looking urbanisation. We are building not only for today, but for generations to come by expanding modern infrastructure, advancing smart city solutions, creating inclusive housing, and championing sustainable growth. Across Ethiopia, our cities are being shaped to empower people, unlock potential, and secure lasting prosperity. Ours is a nation where progress and heritage stand side by side. Where ancient civilisations inspire modern achievement. Where investors discover vast, untapped opportunity across diverse sectors and regions. From the streets of Addis Ababa to the farthest reaches of our country, Ethiopia stands ready, resilient, dynamic, and open for business. As the diplomatic capital of Africa, Addis Ababa connects the world to a rising continent. It positions Ethiopia as a strategic gateway to African markets and a hub for global partnership. Yet Ethiopia offers more than opportunity. It offers discovery. The future is being built here. Invest in Ethiopia. Explore Ethiopia. Grow with Ethiopia.

The airport is owned by Ethiopian Airlines, amongst the 30 largest airlines in the world and Africa’s largest and most profitable. It’s also by far Boeing’s and the U.S. EXIM bank’s largest customer in Africa. For reference: In 2025 these were the 5 busiest airports in the world, by total passengers handled (millions): 1. Atlanta (ATL) 108.1 2. Dubai (DXB) 92.3 3. Dallas (DFW) 87.8 4. Tokyo (HND) 85.9 5. London (LHR) 83.9 Kenya Nigeria South Africa

ETHIOPIA WAS NEVER COLONISED. WHY IS IT STILL SO DIVIDED? Ethiopia is not unique among countries, explained former Ethiopian diplomat Mohamed Hassan, in response to a question from Sovereign Media's Ahmed Kaballo about why Ethiopia remains so divided despite never being colonised. Hassan dismantled the myth of Ethiopian exceptionalism that was espoused by early pan-African intellectuals. While their knowledge of imperialism was forged in British plantation economies in the West Indies, Hassan noted that they lacked direct knowledge of the African continent, especially Ethiopia. Desperate for a symbolic beacon of African sovereignty against European conquest, some of these diaspora thinkers latched on to Emperor Haile Selassie as a global symbol of resistance. However, Hassan argued, this bore little resemblance to the domestic reality within Ethiopia, where the vast majority of citizens suffered under imperial rule. "The image building and the propaganda which was built for the family of the emperor Haile Selassie created an image that Ethiopia is unique. Ethiopia is not unique…" Hassan said. Instead, he argued that Ethiopia is a multinational state historically shaped by class domination and unresolved questions of nationality, which were later exploited and turned into ethnic politics.
