Deeper below deck than how high they are stacked on deck.

@ThinkFreight If you ever get the chance to watch a planner orchestrate the loading of one of these bad boys, do it. It's Tetris with $1B on the line. @CrowleyMaritime. Magical.

Imagine being on one of these ships and you get to the dock, but you have 8 other ships in line ahead of you. And then there’s the unloading time. It could take more than a day or two sometimes.

Bay, Tier, Row. Just put the heavy ones in the hold and the empties on deck 😃

There are container ships that can hold 50,000 containers, let that sink in.

The largest containership holds a little over 23k TEUs. So even if it was filled entirely with 20s it would still only be 23k containers but since many of the containers will be 40s you most certainly won’t see 23k let alone 50k

It's even more fun climbing down there to go through these double bottoms.

Totally crazy! I think I read that in Rotterdam they unload the ships with Ai, fully automated port. 🤯

Who's the go-to to learn more about these? I know of a possible place that could really benefit by going containerized

A freight forwarder could help here

More about the nuts and bolts of getting set up. It's an area where significant amounts are flown in but barge access is possible. It would need capacity to load/unload to be created.

@TimothyDooner Flown in?

Mathieu Labonté 的头像

@TimothyDooner Yeah basically these communities are only accessible by air, boat, or ice road (sometimes). Freight still runs JIT so they tend to fly in groceries (very expensive). A good container system using more frequent barge/truck service + using the containers as warehouses might work

@TimothyDooner I know enough to know I don't know a lot about setting up and running such a freight lane, so I'm looking to be pointed in the right direction to learn. The reason nobody else has done it is part political, and part local monopoly that gets subsidies and owns the airline

@TimothyDooner Any rail?

Mathieu Labonté 的头像
Mathieu Labonté2 年前

@TimothyDooner There are 3 ports that can service the areas. They have rail to the port, but no container capacity to my knowledge. So basically I'd have to pitch to gvt to put that capacity in place, then line up barges/containers/unloading capacity at communities. I need numbers and knowhow

I'm thinking they should write the "DO NOT STACK MORE THAN 4 HIGH" in Mandarin.
