Contractor Christopher Duffy Detained Briefly while Seeking to Question Taoiseach at Tullamore Show Christopher Duffy, a contractor from Castletown, Co. Meath, and one of the principal organisers of the fuel demonstrations earlier this year, was in attendance at the Tullamore Show today and sought to put a question to... Taoiseach Micheál Martin regarding fuel price increases. Duffy has consistently campaigned for the removal of the carbon tax and measures to keep fuel prices lower at the pump for Irish citizens. Throughout the day he was seen with fellow principal fuel demonstrators James Geoghegan and John Dallon. Numerous attendees approached the three men for photographs and to offer kind words in recognition of their efforts seeking reduced fuel prices. In footage from the event, Mr Duffy is seen approaching calmly and asking his question. He was then quickly surrounded by members of An Garda Síochána and the Gardaí ministerial security detail, who pushed him back. One officer physically grabbed his arm as he attempted to leave and restrained him. Mr Duffy can be heard stating that he simply wanted to ask an elected representative a question and that there had been no signs on the way in indicating questions were not permitted. He then asked: “Am I under arrest?” to which an officer replied: “You are being detained.” The situation eventually de-escalated without further incident.show more

First, by removing corruption from the fuel subsidy regime and determining the actual cost of the subsidy being paid. From there, the subsidy would be gradually removed while other measures are put in place. He explained that with local refineries such as Dangote and other modular refineries coming on stream, and considering that Nigeria is a crude oil producer, the government can assure local refiners of a regular supply of crude at a competitive price, alongside other support. This would enable us to begin reversing the current fuel pricing trend. Another factor contributing to the high cost of fuel is the exchange rate. As we transform Nigeria into a productive economy, the exchange rate can begin to improve, which in turn would help bring down fuel prices. Finally, the savings realised from these measures would be redirected into areas that directly benefit the people.

Yesterday, I put a number of questions to Taoiseach Micheál Martin regarding the upcoming Budget. I wanted answers on the USC and I also raised the issue of the judicial review concerning sex offenders. Unfortunately, as has become all too typical, Micheál Martin chose to ignore the questions. Surrounded by State Gardaí for his protection, the Taoiseach appears to believe that he does not have to answer directly to the people he represents. But public office comes with accountability, and the Taoiseach should never be above answering legitimate questions from members of the public. The only person Micheál Martin seems willing to answer to is himself. I have no doubt that once the European presidential process is over, serious questions will be asked within Fianna Fáil about his leadership, and I believe the pressure on him to step down will only increase.

So this is exactly what happened yesterday at the start of second innings 😂 Kohli wanted to open the bowling, calculated his run-up, and even handed his cap to the umpire. But Patidar told him to give the ball to Duffy. Kohli still didn’t hand it over at first and instead started setting the field 😭 Dev and Jitesh were smiling in the background. Later, when Duffy finished marking his run-up and asked for the ball, Kohli finally gave it to him, took his cap back from the umpire, and when the umpire asked, “Aren’t you going to bowl?”, he replied, “Naah, I was just having fun,” and went back to fielding at his spot 🤣
