Say hello to the reason we’ve been eating so much pizza lately 🍕🍕🍕 “Spatial Pizza” is an interactive Vision Pro experience by Brian (Brian McIntosh) and me. This project has been “cooking” for quite some time, based on a concept I came up with back in July. So here’s the pitch: Imagine you’re in a distant future, you’re hungry, and once again, you’re too lazy to cook. Instead of opening a website and ordering pizza the old-fashioned way with boring drop-down menus and checkboxes, you get to playfully create your pizza right on your living room table. Once you’re done, simply hit “Order,” and your creation will be delivered straight to your doorstep. Well, this isn’t that app—at least not yet—but it’s a lot of fun to create your own wild and controversial pizza creations (yes, we added pineapple) and watch raw realistic 3D ingredients transform into their baked versions. That’s why with "Spatial Pizza" we’re excited to introduce our first demo for the future of spatial food computing. Out now on Apple Vision Pro.

The farther I traveled from poverty, the more fashionable it became to romanticize the conditions I had escaped. I grew up in poverty in Los Angeles and was taken from my mother when I was three. She had immigrated from South Korea, but her life unraveled amid drug addiction. I never met my father and learned only as an adult, through a genetic ancestry test, that he was Mexican. I spent the next several years moving through foster homes and chaotic circumstances. At seventeen, I enlisted in the United States Air Force. After some setbacks, I arrived at Yale at twenty-five and studied on the GI Bill. Along the way, I climbed nearly every rung of the American class ladder. I moved from poverty through working-class and lower-middle-class homes. In the military, I encountered the middle class. At Yale, I was surrounded by the upper-middle class and the wealthy. Moving through these worlds, I noticed that beliefs changed with social class. At Yale, I heard ideas I had never encountered before: abolish the police, empty the prisons, promote polyamory, dismantle traditional marriage, and decriminalize drugs. These ideas were popular among elites, but their costs often fell on communities like the ones where I grew up. I had seen addiction, abuse, neglect, abandonment, and disorder up close. At Yale and later during my Ph.D. at Cambridge, I studied research on class and social status. It helped me understand what I had witnessed and led me to some startling statistics about social class.

Many of my best memories are from my childhood in Athens, where my mother loved to cook. Developing: Mexican security forces are currently battling elements of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel across multiple areas in the country following the elimination of its leader, Nemesio “El Mencho” Oseguera Cervantes, in a military operation. Details on the operation: According to Mexican news outlets, the operation that killed El Mencho was carried out by federal military forces in the mountainous region of Jalisco early Sunday morning. Reports indicate that specialized army units located and engaged the cartel leader in an operation that unfolded for hours, resulting in his death in the town of Tapalpa. Authorities have not disclosed the precise details, but sources cited by major newspapers said the mission was the result of sustained intelligence work and targeted planning by Mexico’s security apparatus. There’s also talk of some sort of US involvement (could be intel sharing). Right now, video and images coming out of Mexico show burning vehicles blocking major highways and thick plumes of smoke rising over several cities in Jalisco, including Guadalajara and Puerto Vallarta. Armed groups have set up “narco” roadblocks, torching cars and trucks to paralyze traffic and slow down the movement of security forces. At the Guadalajara airport, passengers have been seen fleeing amid reports of nearby gunfire, while flights to Puerto Vallarta were temporarily suspended due to the security situation. The unrest has spread beyond Jalisco into neighboring states, including Michoacán, Guanajuato, Tamaulipas, Colima, and Nayarit, with similar blockades and vehicle fires reported along key transportation routes.
