As of now, already 5 people have been reported killed in Kyiv as a result of last night’s Russian attack. My condolences to their families and loved ones. Around 40 people have been injured in the capital, and another 7 in the Kyiv region. There are already 28 injured in Kharkiv. And two people have been injured in the Odesa region. In total, 180 sites have been damaged across the country, including more than 50 ordinary residential buildings. A search and rescue operation is still ongoing in Kyiv’s Darnytskyi district. Efforts continue to find people under the rubble. More than 10 people are reported missing. All necessary services are also operating in the Obolonskyi district. And recovery efforts are underway after Russian strikes in the Poltava region. Overall, more than 750 personnel of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine and nearly 750 police officers have already been engaged across the country to eliminate the consequences of the attack. I am grateful to all who help the rescuers and the police Also, earlier today, during a humanitarian mission in Kherson, the Russians twice attacked a vehicle of the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs with FPV drones, and the Russians could not have been unaware of which vehicle they were targeting. The Head of the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs and eight other staff members were inside. Fortunately, no one was injured. The mission personnel have been evacuated. Even so, a significant number of missiles and drones were shot down during these attacks – the overall interception rate is over 93%. Of course, it needs to be higher. And of course, the most difficult challenge is defending against ballistic missiles. I thank everyone who is helping us with this. There must be a just response to all these strikes. And pressure on Moscow must be such that they feel the consequences of their terror there. It is important that global sanctions against Russia remain in place. Russia’s accountability for this war, and our sanctions pressure, must work at full strength. And it is also very important that the world does not stay silent about this terror and stands with Ukraine.

Medical pioneer Dr. Patrick Soon-Shiong unveils a paradigm-shifting approach to cancer treatment that could save millions of lives. In an interview, he revealed we already have the key: protecting the immune system FIRST. The current standard of care—chemotherapy and radiation—often destroys a patient’s lymphocytes (NK & T cells), leading to a condition called lymphopenia. For decades, over 300 studies have shown that lymphopenia predicts early mortality, not just in cancer, but in sepsis and trauma. We treat anemia, but we’ve NEVER had an approved treatment for this critical immune deficiency. Until now. Dr. Soon-Shiong’s “Bio-Shield” is that breakthrough. It’s already approved, and the results are profound: Prostate cancer patients treated with the Bio-Shield before radiation achieved complete remission while their lymphocytes were protected. An ovarian cancer patient received the full, brutal course of chemo after the Bio-Shield. Her cancer disappeared, and she proceeded to surgery with a protected immune system. The vision is simple, yet revolutionary: Mandate that ANY patient undergoing radiation or chemotherapy first receives the Bio-Shield to protect their immune system. The treatment isn’t just attacking the cancer; it’s fortifying the body’s own innate ability to fight and survive. The call to action is clear. We don't need to wait for new regulatory hurdles. We need immediate education for doctors and patients across the nation. We have the power to turn the tide. This is the future of medicine: treating the patient's immune system as the most valuable asset in the fight for their life.

Why are so many young people single these days? Pooja Arora (Pooja Arora): So my last question: I wanted to talk about why people are single nowadays. I would have asked about human nature, but that’s for another day. I sent you an article—how do you think common knowledge fits into that area? Why do you think so many youngsters are single? Me: Yes, it’s a good question. I’m not sure that common knowledge is an important part of the answer, but some of it is that women no longer depend on the economic contributions of men for their livelihood, as was true, say, in my mother’s era, when women were not professionally trained. To pay the rent, they had to be married. Now, not only are women better educated, but the economy has shifted to favor the kinds of skills that women, as opposed to men, have. And just as women have been rising, men have been sinking because of the decline in blue-collar work. There have also been cultural trends that favor women’s temperaments. Men have been distracted by internet gaming, gambling, and pornography and are less desirable as marriage partners. Women with more economic power are more likely to raise their standards for what they want in a man. In my parents’ generation, it was not uncommon for a woman to marry a man with much less education and, sometimes, less intelligence. This was not unusual among my parents’ friends. The men often had a high school degree and then went immediately into a small business—sometimes a family business, sometimes one he started himself. The criterion was: does he make a living? No one cared about education. That has changed, with the result that there are fewer men who satisfy the criteria women now have. This was mentioned in the article you shared with me. Also, with more sexual freedom, people don’t have to get married simply to have sex, which was again true in my parents’ generation. There’s a process that has been in place since the baby boomers and has accelerated among millennials and Generation Z. For other reasons, I think a generation of men may also be incapable of socially skilled interaction, partly because they’ve grown up with screens instead of face-to-face contact. There is some fear that a sexual encounter could result in an accusation of rape or sexual harassment. There is so much pornography that, for an increasing number of men, it serves as an outlet for what in the past would have required actual human contact. There are many factors. The article from The Economist lists them, I think, quite skillfully. It’s not clear how to reverse the trend. Increasing the economic prospects of men and creating an educational system that is less feminized and more encouraging of male achievement might help. Another could be changing norms—and here common knowledge comes in. Among women, is it a sign of low status to be with a man who has less education than you? Men, from time immemorial, have been happy to marry women with less education than themselves. Women don't. That immediately reduces the marriage pool. Maybe that’s a norm that could change. Go back to the norm in my parents’ generation? Pooja Arora: No, let’s not do that. Me: Okay, let's not do that. Pooja Arora: We’re happy to marry men who are not as educated as us. It’s fine. They just have to be nice and kind at this point in time. Me: Well, yes—exactly. Nice and kind.

NEW: ATTENTION TO EVERYONE WHO HAS EVER TAKEN TYLENOL OR KNOWS SOMEONE WITH AUTISM 🚨 Link Between Prenatal Tylenol TYLENOL® Use and Autism Rates Under Scrutiny as HHS Prepares Major September Announcement On Autism Interventions 🚨 As autism rates continue to climb across the United States, a growing body of research is spotlighting prenatal exposure to acetaminophen – commonly known as Tylenol – as a possible contributing factor to autism. With Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. Robert F. Kennedy Jr set to unveil key findings in September on environmental "interventions" he believes are driving the surge in autism diagnoses in the US, a new study is increasingly pointing to this widely used pain reliever as one potential culprit. The announcement, teased during a recent Cabinet meeting, could reshape guidelines for pregnant women and reignite debates over everyday medications that we have all been told are “safe”. The latest data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), released in April 2025, reveals that 1 in 31 U.S. children – or about 3.2% of 8-year-olds – has been diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), up from 1 in 36 two years earlier. This marks a nearly fivefold increase since the CDC's first survey in 2000, when the rate was 1 in 150. While improved screening and broader diagnostic criteria account for much of the rise, Kennedy has called it an "epidemic running rampant," emphasizing environmental toxins over genetic factors alone. In an August 26 Cabinet meeting, Kennedy addressed President Donald Trump's concerns about the "tremendous horror show" of autism, stating: "We will have an announcement as promised in September. We’re finding interventions, certain interventions now that are clearly almost certainly causing autism." He referenced a massive HHS-led research effort launched earlier in the year, involving hundreds of scientists worldwide, to pinpoint these triggers. Among the interventions under investigation: prenatal exposures to common substances like acetaminophen, which Kennedy and others have flagged as a risk. Acetaminophen is the go-to over-the-counter pain and fever reducer for pregnant women, with more than 50% using it worldwide due to its perceived safety compared to alternatives like ibuprofen. But, recent studies suggest it may disrupt fetal brain development, potentially elevating risks for Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) and attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) – both classified as neurodevelopmental disorders (NDDs). Now that September has arrived, millions of families await clarity. For now, the 1-in-31 statistic underscores the urgency to identify these autism interventions. Nearly two-thirds of autistic children have severe or borderline intellectual disabilities. While early intervention remains key in identifying autism, we could see a decline in Autism rates in the future if acetaminophen proves to be a factor identified by HHS Secretary Kennedy. If Tylenol and acetaminophen usage by pregnant women is one of the interventions announced this September by Robert F. Kennedy Jr, it could offer a simple step to curb the Autism epidemic in America and around the world, one pill at a time.

"Ivermectin's Miraculous Results For Neurological Conditions Of Parkinson's & Alzheimer's." Dr William Makis Buried Research, Deleted From Google, Has Been Found, Proving Ivermectin Reverses Alzheimer's. Neurological Disease Improves In Only A Few Days On Ivermectin Therapy... Dementia affects more than 55 million people globally, with Alzheimer’s disease (AD) being the most prevalent subtype. These neurodegenerative disorders, including debilitating Parkinson's Disease, progressively impairs memory, cognition, daily functioning, muscle & body control. As interest grows in repositioning known compounds for neurodegenerative applications, ivermectin—a macrocyclic lactone with FDA-approved antiparasitic use—has surfaced as a candidate for neurological disease therapy. Deleted Research Study That Google Scrubbed... I Found It Last Week After Hours Of Research. Here Is A Paraphrased Summary In 'Non Scientific' Regular Language: 70 male Wistar rats were used in the research study. At baseline the rats had cognitive ability to do a task session at the rate of 2.8 minutes with 1.3 errors. Alzheimer's Disease (AD) was induced by injecting them with ALUMINUM CHLORIDE until their cognitive ability to do the same task session regressed to the slow rate of 6.5 minutes with 4.4 errors. These rats were then given IVERMECTIN for 4 consecutive weeks. The same task session improved drastically from 6.5 minutes back to only 3.6 minutes. And the rate of errors improved from 4.4 back to only 1.4 errors. Almost back to baseline in only 4 weeks at 3.6 minutes with 1.4 errors. Recent studies have explored its effects on neuroinflammation, neurotransmission & synaptic protection. Ivermectin’s Effects On Neurological Disease: 1. Anti-Inflammatory Effects: A 2023 study published in Inflammation demonstrated that ivermectin mitigates neuroinflammatory damage in encephalomyelitis. Ivermectin reduced inflammatory cytokines. 2. Stabilizes Neurotransmission: A 2019 study in PLOS Pathogens found that ivermectin restores balance in synaptic neuro pathways. 3. Cholinergic Transmission: A 2024 study published in Cell & Bioscience reported that ivermectin increased activity of striatal cholinergic interneurons, enhancing dopamine release via nicotinic receptor modulation. Conclusion: Ivermectin is emerging as more than an antiparasitic agent. Its anti-inflammatory, synaptic & cholinergic effects are beneficial in neurodegenerative disorders like Dementia, Alzheimer's & Parkinson's. Dosages suggested by Dr William Makis: Parkinson’s: Patients on high-dose ivermectin (60-72mg) saw dramatic improvements in movement & symptoms. - Multiple cases of symptom reversal—where tremors, stiffness & rigidity significantly improved. Alzheimer’s: Patients on low-dose ivermectin (12-24 mg for 4-5 days) brought back memories, recognition & cognitive function in patients. Why Isn’t This Everywhere? - A preclinical Alzheimer’s study proving ivermectin’s healing ability was SCRUBBED from Google. - Big Pharma doesn’t profit from a safe, cheap, Nobel Prize-winning drug that reverses neurodegeneration. This isn’t theoretical—it’s happening NOW in real patients. Decades of suffering could be reversed by a few pills. If you have a loved one with Parkinson’s or Alzheimer’s—TRY IT. The results could be LIFE-CHANGING. 👇Ivermectin Reverses Alzheimer's (Deleted Study)👇 👇Ivermectin For Autoimmune & Neurological Ills👇 👇Ivermectin Increases Choline & Dopamine👇 Speaker: Dr William Makis, Nuclear Medicine Physician & Cancer Researcher

Saunas Can Reduce Food Intake?! – New Insights from Nature 🔥🧠 (2 min science breakdown clip) It’s been observed that heat exposure reduces food intake both in humans and animals, leading some to suggest heat stress may be a weight management tool. And new science is beginning to unpack how heat may suppress appetite. Get ready for a steam burst of jargon, then I’ll simplify: A 2024 paper published in nature (PMID: 38538787) found that heat 🔥activates specialized cells that line the fluid-filled spaces in the brain called, “tanycytes.” 🎯These tanycytes are optimally placed to communicate external signals to regions of the brain, in particular the hypothalamus, that control things like metabolism and food intake. 🔥This study found that heat stress in a mouse model at 40°C for 1 hour increased activity in a temperature sensing brain region, the “pontine parabrachial nucleus (PBN)” 👉which signals to tanycytes and causes them to 👉produce a brain chemical VEGFA, which in turn 👉 signals to the hypothalamus to change the activity of dopamine and AGRP neurons and leads to reduce food intake. (Please see clip for a visual explanation) 🚨High-Level Takeaway: The researchers discovered a causal mechanism for the effects of heat on reducing food intake, and aligns with data in humans that heat can reduce food intake. More details about sauna in today’s #StayCurious Newsletter (linked in first reply), including discussion of heart health, brain health, longevity, and with a healthy shoutout to Dr. Rhonda Patrick (who I suspect might be interested in this Tanycytes Mechanism, if it's not already on her radar) Some folks interesting in Sauna and/or Neuroscience Mechanisms: Dan Go Gary Brecka Andrew D. Well, well, well. If it isn’t a case of The Blob having a very bad week. The trickle truth has become a flood of truth. How much longer can derelict doctors, CDC, NIH, and FDA officials pretend as if ‘they did the best they could’ or that the jabs were ‘safe & effective?’ The front page of the The Telegraph this morning read: Covid vaccines may have helped fuel rise in excess deaths ( The study they are referring to was, again, published in the BMJ where nearly 100% of the appropriately skeptical Covid vaccine science was to be found during the pandemic, with Peter Doshi heroically taking enormous career risk in contributing to and publishing the works. This time, the authors were from The Netherlands and in their discussion they noted the gross lack of understanding that still remains about something as desperately important as a badly elevated rate of excess deaths across 47 separate countries. In their discussion, they noted: "Indirect effects of containment measures have likely altered the scale and nature of disease burden for numerous causes of death since the pandemic. However, deaths caused by restricted healthcare utilisation and socioeconomic turmoil are difficult to prove. A study assessing excess mortality in the USA observed a substantial increase in excess mortality attributed to non-COVID causes during the first 2 years of the pandemic. The highest number of excess deaths was caused by heart disease, 6% above baseline during both years. (…) Previous research confirmed profound under-reporting of adverse events, including deaths, after immunisation. Consensus is also lacking in the medical community regarding concerns that mRNA vaccines might cause more harm than initially forecasted. French studies suggest that COVID-19 mRNA vaccines are gene therapy products requiring long-term stringent adverse events monitoring. Although the desired immunisation through vaccination occurs in immune cells, some studies report a broad biodistribution and persistence of mRNA in many organs for weeks. Batch-dependent heterogeneity in the toxicity of mRNA vaccines was found in Denmark. Simultaneous onset of excess mortality and COVID-19 vaccination in Germany provides a safety signal warranting further investigation. Despite these concerns, clinical trial data required to further investigate these associations are not shared with the public. Autopsies to confirm actual death causes are seldom done." Source: Yikes. It’s just as bad as we thought, but this time being noted on the front pages of a leading newspaper in the Western world. This is a major shift and we are on the cusp of achieving Common Knowledge (’where everybody knows that everybody knows the same thing’). #Knowledge #ResearchIntegrity #everyoneknowsthat #commonknowledge

Awakening "inner fire" to completely make gall bladder polyps disappear is the new rubbish "medinfluencer" Ayurveda practitioners are bringing to town. Do not for a second believe this nonsense. "Before" and "After" reports based on anecdotal, single patient "stories" are a common tactic by alternative medicine practitioners to mislead people into believing that their voodoo treatments work. In fact, I know of a Homeopathy practitioner, who famously "cured" patients with chronic hepatitis B virus infection by simply changing the positive report to a negative one using Adobe Photoshop. The same can be true here too. Please do not believe or opt for pseudoscientific alternative treatments for diseases that require realistic care based on "before and after" social media stories. The reports may be manipulated or it could be another patient's report - which is possible in this video too. Removal of gall bladder is a best option and curative treatment for certain gall bladder diseases. Removing the gall bladder does not increase pressure on the liver (trust me, I am a Liver Doctor) and does not make the liver "work hard!" Removing the gall bladder will anatomically change the storage of bile produced by the liver to the upper part of small intestine and nothing more. This does not affect the functioning of the liver in any way. All gall bladder polyps do not require surgical management. Here is what the science has to say on it. To oversimplify: Polyps even in the absence of symptoms, smaller than 10 mm do have the capacity to become cancerous and surgery is recommended when patient has one of more risk factors such as: age more than 60 years, history of primary sclerosing cholangitis (PSC), Asian ethnicity, sessile polypoid lesion (including focal gallbladder wall thickening > 4 mm). For polyps smaller than 10 mm without risk factors, a follow-up at 6 months, 1 year and 2 years with abdominal ultrasound seems to be appropriate. The indication for gall bladder removal should be discussed with the patient in the case of dynamic or unexpected polyp growth. Here is a very detailed and simple guideline on when to surgically manage gall bladder polyps (and no, it does not mention "inner fire or AGNI awakening.") Also please go and educate this Ayurvedic practitioner and reel poster on the real thing:

The only thing worse than Homeopathy? Scientists on the internet without any knowledge on clinical medical practice, selling supplements that they endorse, using misinformation masquerading as "solid peer reviewed science." Check this video out, when Huberman bullshits everyone in just half a minute on the Joe Rogan Experience Podcast. Before I go on, please remember this The Bullshit Asymmetry Principle, also known as Brandolini’s Law, states that the amount of energy needed to refute bullshit is an order of magnitude bigger than that needed to produce it. Which means, I have to put extra effort just to debunk the 36 seconds of that podcast. First, a little about sleep disorders Sleep disorders are of different types and due to different causes. The diagnosis is simply not "I can't sleep" and so here, take this sleep cocktail. Many patients come with sleep disorders that are associated with other conditions. For example, cirrhosis patients have sleep disorders that require management with ammonia lowering therapies and severe cases can only be reversed with a liver transplant. Patients with alcohol use disorders have sleep disorders that require management with de-addiction therapies along with sedatives. Sleep disorders in the ICU set up has different causes. People with mental health disorders have associated sleep disorders. Certain sleep disorders have no identifiable causes and are called "idiopathic." Which means, coming on a podcast and blindly giving out a "sleep cocktail" to millions of viewers, who may be suffering from a sleep disorder which has an as yet unidentified cause, is one of the most foolish things one can do. And Huberman, not being an actual clinical doctor, makes that exact mistake. Huberman claims (very generally and casually), melatonin helps you to go to sleep, but does not maintain sleep. But "solid peer reviewed" studies have much more to say about melatonin. Melatonin improved sleep onset latency and total sleep time in children/adolescents with neurodevelopmental disorders. Melatonin also improved and sleep onset latency and total sleep time in adults with delayed sleep phase disorder. Treatment with melatonin has positive effects on sleep quality in adults with respiratory diseases, metabolic disorders, primary sleep disorders, not with mental disorders, neurodegenerative diseases and other diseases. This meta-analysis demonstrated that melatonin decreases sleep onset latency, increases total sleep time and improves overall sleep quality. Another large meta-analysis showed that melatonin dosing and timing matters: for circadian phase advancement, an earlier time and smaller dose, but for sleep quality/consolidation a larger and later dose seemed appropriate. See here: So melatonin does increase total sleep time, total sleep quality and reduces time to sleep and has beneficial effects in specific groups of patients. Now the "solid peer reviewed studies" on the cocktail - which Huberman claims on three supplements - magnesium threonate, apigenin and L-theanine. Unfortunately, such "solid peer-reviewed papers" DO NOT EXIST. Lets see. Magnesium supplements: First of all, there is no conclusive evidence that magnesium, dietary or supplemented has any actual effect on sleep. Randomized clinical trials showed an uncertain association between magnesium supplementation and sleep disorders. See here: Forget sleep, magnesium has absolutely no evidence for involvement even in mood disorders. See here: This review confirms that the quality of literature is substandard for physicians to make well-informed recommendations on usage of oral magnesium for older adults with insomnia. See here: Apigenin (from Chamomille): The possible sleep inducing effects of apigenin is still speculative. There are absolutely no solid peer reviewed studies or evidence for benefits of apigenin in sleep as Huberman claims. See here: A randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled pilot trial showed that chamomille DID NOT have conclusive effects on sleep. See here: Even better, a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized trials and quasi-randomized trials showed that there was very little evidence to show effect of chamomille on insomnia. See here: L-theanine supplements: There is absolutely NO study or data to suggest that L-theanine is useful for sleep induction, improving sleep quality or increasing total sleep time. The only studies that are of "better quality" shows that L-theanine "maybe" useful in reducing anxiety/ stress levels due to caffeine at night. See here and here The only other "study" on L-theanine which was done on mice and not humans showed effects only on brain related biomarkers and were not applicable in the clinical sense to humans - And coming to SOLID EVIDENCE on the "Huberman cocktail" - there is absolutely nothing in published literature to confirm that it works and there is no convincing mode of action of this cocktail in humans. A large systematic review and meta-analysis showed that Cognitive-Behavior Therapy for Insomnia was the best and not some random supplements proclaimed on a podcast by half-baked scientists who are full time supplement sellers. See here: There are basic scientists, with no or half-baked clinical practice knowledge, trying to sell you a bunch of useless supplements that they endorse for a paid-commission, using "science-sounding" words without any practical, rational or logical meaning; and push untested and unregulated therapies that are NEVER recommended, approved or promoted by any active, medical, scientific clinical societies worldwide. They are worse than pseudoscience peddlers. Be aware of where you find your health information. There is pseudoscience, but then there is also another terrible type of misinformation: BAD SCIENCE.

A silent, large-scale experiment is being conducted on developing babies, and the public is in the dark. Nearly 1 in 4 middle-aged women are on antidepressants. Up to 5% of women are prescribed them during pregnancy. Never before in human history have we chemically altered the fetal brain so pervasively. The evidence is overwhelming, yet the warnings are absent. A landmark legal case against GSK over Paxil causing birth defects resulted in a billion-dollar verdict. Where there are birth defects, there is also a significant risk for Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD). The link between SSRIs and ASD has been evident for over a decade. The findings grow more alarming: • Mothers on SSRIs during pregnancy have a tenfold greater risk of having a child with fetal alcohol syndrome. • Canadian guidelines now state SSRIs can cause alcohol use disorder. Yet, the drug labels remain silent. We are medicalizing the human experience itself. "Depression" is diagnosed in 8-10 minutes with a subjective checklist—there is no objective test. By convincing society that normal emotional experiences are symptoms of a chemical imbalance, we have created a culture of fear around our own emotions. The result? We judge our inner lives instead of understanding them. We have not reduced the burden of mental illness; we may have increased suffering. True informed consent is a legal and ethical imperative. It is impossible when the full risks—especially to the most vulnerable—are concealed. This is based on the critical work of experts like Dr. David Healy, a psychopharmacologist and Pharma insider who turned whistleblower. Having seen the hidden internal documents as an expert witness, his testimony holds immense gravity. It is far past time for regulatory agencies to hold open panel discussions and mandate strong, clear warnings. The health of future generations depends on it.

#Ethiopian Foreign Minister: #Ethiopia’s State Formation Still Disputed, and is shaped by a Culture of Violence The following is what the current Ethiopian Foreign Minister said about the flawed nature of Ethiopia’s state formation and how it is still contested and shaped by a violent political culture. This is verbatim; I have not added any opinion. 'The process through which the Ethiopian state was formed is rather unique on the African continent. In most parts of the world, states are formed through conflict, violence, and bloodshed. That does not make Ethiopia unique. What makes Ethiopia unique—particularly in the African context—is that the violence was carried out by indigenous, native forces. The main protagonists in this process were Ethiopians themselves. By contrast, in the history of most African countries, state formation was the outcome of colonial conquest, with significant involvement of European actors. So, we have a state formation process driven by local political forces, but we did not have the opportunity to strengthen or cement that process through a social contract, nor did we have the chance to heal the wounds and contradictions that emerged during state formation. As a result, the legitimacy of the state was questioned and contested by some. This contestation has persisted throughout the formation of the state and has been exacerbated by subsequent events. Some have challenged the very legitimacy of the Ethiopian state; others have contested its nature, its vision, its identity, and its narratives. Some have found it difficult to accept its institutions and their configurations. Thus, there have always been fundamental contradictions stemming from Ethiopia’s state formation process, and we have not adequately addressed them in a way that would create consensus among key actors. Another layer we need to consider is that we have a very violent and autocratic political culture. Whenever there are contests for power, political differences, or disagreements over policy or institutional arrangements, the method of resolving them has more often than not been conflict. Imposing one’s will and vision on others through violence and force has been how we have conducted politics for generations. And once in power, using autocratic means to consolidate authority has been common practice. This autocratic and forceful approach, combined with the flawed state formation process, has produced many wounds, grievances, and violations. We have not been able to address these in a way that is satisfactory to most Ethiopians. On top of this, attempts to resolve these problems have often been divisive, emphasizing differences at the expense of what unites us. As a result, our politics has become polarized and ethnic-based.

When medics become targets: Ukrainian strikes on Russian rescue workers and the silence of western media Since Russia began its SMO in 2022, Western media have repeatedly accused Russia of an “unprovoked invasion” and of “war crimes”. Honest observers, however, state that Russia has acted with considerable restraint in Ukraine—targeting military and logistics sites, not civilians—and remind of Ukraine's eight years of warring on the civilians in the Donbass prior to the commencement of the SMO in 2022. Further, they emphasize that once again, in December 2021, Russia made clear its concerns in hopes of a diplomatic solution. These were, again, steadily ignored by Western governments and media. Likewise ignored is Ukraine's deliberate, shelling and drone striking of medical and rescue personnel. Under international law, medical and rescue personnel and their vehicles are protected and must not be targeted. Ukraine and its ally Israel are guilty of routinely, deliberately, targeting medics and other rescuers, maiming and killing them. These are war crimes, but the West remains mute, instead concocting stories of “Russian war crimes” in the face of Ukraine's very real ones. In September 2019, when I first visited the Donbass, in a village in the Gorlovka region I met an elderly resident of living alone in a home falling apart from previous Ukrainian shelling. During our conversation she said that ambulances wouldn't be able to reach her if she was injured by the shelling, it would be too dangerous for them to try. I was likewise told by Zaitsevo administration that ambulances could not reach the villagers. “The paramedics don’t go farther than this building; it’s too dangerous. If somebody needs medical care near the front lines, someone has to go in their own car and take them to a point where medics can then take them to Gorlovka. The soldiers also help civilians who are injured. A woman died due to huge blood loss because no one could reach her house to take her away in time. She was injured in the shelling and bled to death.” This is one sordid reality for civilians living in villages heavily bombarded by Ukraine. But the medics heroically do go to potentially dangerous areas to rescue civilians, and they have for years been deliberated targeted by Ukrainian forces when doing so. In 2022, I interviewed numerous medics and Emergency Services workers in Donetsk regions, and subsequently made a short video about Ukraine's deliberate targeting of rescue personnel. Speaking with Emergency Services in Donetsk's Kievsky district, for the two hours I was there we came under heavy Ukrainian shelling. The windows of the building had already been blown out and were sand-bagged to attempt to protect the workers. The Chief of the centre, Andrey Levchenko, told me how five days prior his office had been impacted with shrapnel from the shelling. He thankfully had just stepped of his office before the blast and was not injured or killed. The day prior to my visit, when out on a call to rescue civilians trapped in a building set ablaze by Ukrainian shelling, rescuers were shelled, resulting in one of them being hospitalized in critical condition. The survivors told me that, prior to the shelling, they saw a drone overhead, which makes it credible to believe that Ukraine deliberately targeted the rescuers. Levchenko told me that Ukraine routinely double and triple strikes rescuers. “As soon as we go out to help people the shelling resumes.” The double or triple strike tactic often means that rescuers who have come to help those injured in the first strike are then themselves targeted, depriving civilians in need of urgent medical assistance as a result. I also spoke with Sergei Neka, Director of the Department of Fire and Rescue Forces of the Ministry of Emergency Situations. He reiterated what I'd been told. “Our units arrive at the scene of the accident and Ukraine begins to shell it. A lot of equipment has been damaged and destroyed.” Two female medics I interviewed told me coming under repeated Ukrainian shelling is normal. They spoke of their fear, bu said, “How about the patients? They're hurt and even more scared, they're waiting for our help. If I don't help, who will help if everyone runs away?” By September 2022, Ukrainian forces targeted and killed 19 Donbass rescuers, injuring over 50 more. Ukraine continues killing medics Fast forward to the present. Following are just some of Ukraine's more recent attacks on medics and other rescue workers. On August 11, a Ukrainian drone targeted an ambulance in Gorlovka, killing two medics and seriously injuring the driver. In May, a Ukrainian drone strike killed two Emergency workers who had come to the site of a first drone strike in Lugansk. In an Israeli-style second strike, Ukraine targeted the rescuers deliberately after the arrived at the scene. In March, Russian Emergencies Ministry employees came to extinguish a car on fire following a Ukrainian drone strike in Gorlovka. A Ukrainian drone targeted them, injuring the deputy head of the firefighting service and damaging a fire truck. There are tragically many more such instances which I could list. However, the point is that it is beyond clear that Ukraine's shelling and drone targeting of Russian medics, firefighters and other rescuers has been a deliberate policy since before 2022. It is also clear that Western concern for medics allegedly targeted elsewhere (think the fake rescuers of the al-Qaeda aligned White Helmets in Syria during the global war on Syria) will never extend to any concern for Russian rescuers actually targeted by Ukraine.

Unpopular FACT: Artifical sweetners do NOT make you hungry You’ve probably heard some version of the following: "Artificial sweeteners make you hungry." "Sweet taste without calories confuses your brain." "They make you crave more sweets." You've probably heard some version of these claims before. The problem? The data keep refusing to cooperate. A new study, "Acute and prolonged effects of sweeteners and sweetness enhancers on postprandial appetite sensations, palatability, and ad libitum energy intake in humans," examined exactly this question If artificial sweeteners really increased hunger, cravings, or caused people to eat more later, this study should have found it. It didn't. Researchers found that consuming sweeteners and sweetness enhancers did not increase subsequent energy intake, did not meaningfully increase appetite, and did not lead participants to compensate by eating more later. In other words, the common claim that "sweet taste without calories tricks your brain into overeating" continues to lack support from actual human data. This is a great reminder that just because a mechanism sounds plausible doesn't mean it translates into real-world behavior. Humans aren't Petri dishes, and while people love inventing scary stories about artificial sweeteners, the totality of evidence continues to show that replacing sugar with low- or no-calorie sweeteners generally helps reduce calorie intake and can support fat loss. Your body isn't sitting there thinking: "Wait a second... that was sweet but not enough calories. Better order a large pizza." It doesn't work that way. This study showed people actually ate slightly less calories when consuming artificial sweeteners. This is in alignment with other studies demonstrating that artificial sweeteners decrease energy intake and reduce body fat in tightly controlled human RCTs (PMIDs: 40913681 & 39606579) As always, test hypotheses against data, not vibes.
