Couldn’t let Friday the 13th slide by without sharing SRV’s take on the Stevie Wonder classic “Superstition”. Bad luck has never sounded so powerful. Stevie Ray Vaughan has been gone since 1990 but his influence and genius will last forever. This is Texas Music.

Oct 10, 1989: Stevie Ray Vaughan’s 2nd and final ACL. Mid-“Look at Little Sister” he breaks a string, swaps guitars flawlessly and just keeps ripping. The smoothest exchange ever proof of his genius. God bless SRV and Rene Martinez the guitar tech.

Stevie Ray Vaughan died on August 27, 1990, exactly 36 years ago today. He was 35 years old and had just performed at the Alpine Valley Music Theatre in Wisconsin alongside Eric Clapton, Buddy Guy, Robert Cray, and others. After the show, Vaughan boarded a helicopter bound for Chicago. The helicopter crashed into a hillside shortly after takeoff in heavy fog. Everyone aboard was killed, including Vaughan. His death was a devastating loss to the blues world, but his influence only grew afterward. Songs like “Pride and Joy,” “Texas Flood,” and “Crossfire” remain blues classics.

For many years of his career Stevie Ray Vaughan struggled with drug and alcohol addiction. In the fall of 1986 Stevie's addiction became so bad that he was met with the crossroads of life or death. He had been hospitalized twice within a span of a few days and his health was rapidly declining. He chose to save himself and entered rehab, successfully completing the program in November, 1986. At the time of his death in 1990, Stevie was almost four years sober when he tragically lost his life ina helicopter crash. While performing "Life Without You" in New Orleans, 1988, Stevie gave a powerful speech to the audience about his sobriety and the dangers that drugs caused him. If you are in a hard place right now, listen to his words and enjoy the solo that follows.

In part 1 of this rare, understated interview from 1970, we catch a 20-year-old Stevie Wonder standing at the literal crossroads of his career. Just months away from his 21st birthday and his historic break for artistic independence, Stevie discusses his shift into production and his burgeoning collaborative spirit. It is a quiet, profound glimpse of the man right before he moved to New York City to build the "Classic Period" and change the DNA of popular music forever. Note his wit and unwavering confidence, the hallmarks of a visionary ready to claim his own narrative. Young Stevie also challenges the very definition of the word “Soul,” arguing that 'Soul' wasn't a racial category, but a depth of feeling, a '20/20 vision in the dark' that allowed him to communicate across the boundaries of sight and sound. "Music is a world within itself, with a language we all understand." — Stevie Wonder

Remembering SRV🎸 Austin, TX (FOX 7 Austin) — On this day in 1990, the music world lost one of its greatest stars when Texas blues legend Stevie Ray Vaughan died in a tragic helicopter crash at just 35 years old. He had just finished a huge concert in Wisconsin with his brother Jimmie and other famous musicians like Eric Clapton. Late that night, Stevie Ray got on a helicopter bound for Chicago in thick fog. Just minutes after taking off, the helicopter crashed into a hilly ski slope, killing everyone on board. Born in Dallas, Stevie Ray later moved to Austin and helped make the city famous for its music. During the 1980s, he brought blues music back to life around the world with his electric guitar playing and energetic stage presence. Playing with his band, Double Trouble, he became a local hero and a global star with famous hit albums like Texas Flood. His sudden death shocked fans across Texas and around the globe. Thousands of people and famous musicians gathered to honor him after he was laid to rest back in Dallas. Today, his legacy is still alive and well in Austin. People from all over the world still visit his life-sized bronze statue along Lady Bird Lake to remember the Texas guitar legend who changed music forever.

''As an avid guitarist for the better part of 20 years, this video has inspired me to pursue a career in cooking.'' Stevie Ray Vaughan performing a song he called 'Texas Flood' which was released within the same-titled album by his band SRV & Double Trouble in 1983. A man who was born in Texas made a song he called Texas Flood performing a killer version of it live at the El Mocambo. Don't say anything, just watch and remember him.

I will be on campus at UCLA this Thursday, November 13th. Drop by and say hi, if you like. I visited UCLA around this time last year, and this happened. Since then, the gender clinic at CHLA has been shut down, and Clementine is suing the health professionals involved!

This was a real question at the WH briefing. theGrio's April Ryan to KJP: "I had an in-depth conversation w/Stevie Wonder last night who is —[REPORTERS LAUGH]--AGAIN, IT'S A SERIOUS QUESTION — I had an in-depth conversation w/Stevie Wonder last night, who is...requesting a meeting w/the President. He's very concerned about the black agenda falling along the wayside and issues like laws of 50 years ago that are now being abolished or gutted, to include issues like the Voting Rights Act, what happened in Arkansas last wk, affirmative action — Supreme Court — as we've seen it, ban on books, and he's also even brought up issues of the Congo and the lack of information from the WH. Is the WH amenable to sitting down with Stevie Wonder who has met with presidents, um throughout history to include Ronald Reagan? He was one of the major impetuses for getting the holiday for Dr Martin Luther King Jr and also he was one of those who worked with President Obama in his efforts to become President. Is this President amenable to meeting with Stevie Wonder who has these concerns?"

This is what they mean when they call Stevie Ray Vaughan a prodigy 🔥🎸 Watch him weave pure magic on the guitar 🎸 that tone, feel, and fire that redefined blues for a generation. Starting at age 7 in Dallas (inspired by big brother Jimmie), SRV dropped out of high school to chase the blues, blending Hendrix power, Albert King soul, and his own Texas thunder.💯🔥 By the early ‘80s with Double Trouble, albums like Texas Flood exploded, reviving blues worldwide. Grammy winner, Rock & Roll Hall of Famer, and still one of the greatest guitarists ever. 🙏Gone too soon in 1990, but his legacy lives every time someone picks up a Strat.😎 Who else gets chills from SRV👀💙

CBS lawyers told Stephen Colbert he couldn’t have Texas Democratic Senate candidate James Talarico on his show (and that he certainly couldn’t talk about this act of censorship either). He did both anyway, getting around the order by posting the interview on YouTube in a move that has since gone viral.

Have been quiet on this topic, just so it doesn't create a bad image for the state... But look at the narrative. Mobis plant is completely gone, yet there has been no review meeting press release by the CM or the Industries Minister. No official press statement from the government so far. Only the company has put out some PR posts 🫠

RANDY TRAVIS IS BACK. A stroke took his voice 13 years ago, but it didn't take his music. His longtime producer went through the vault and found songs Randy recorded between his late 20s and early 50s that never made it onto an album. Three are already out, and the full album, Same Ole Way, drops November 13th. The best part of this story is Mary. She married him two years after the stroke and has stood by him ever since. Randy never asked why me. He asked why not me. That's real country music, and that's real love.

On October the 2nd, in 2017, we lost Tom Petty, who produced some incredible music for all of us. Today is the day we should remember him with what he left to us. He sang songs like no other and today, like in this performance, we still sing it like you've never gone. His music is eternal and will live on forever. Just look at the crowd accompanying him while performing 'Learning to Fly' and you will see such a great musician he was. Here Tom Petty and Stevie Nicks performing 'Learning to Fly' live from Gatorville 2006.

This is such a beautiful song. It was written by Ric Ocasek, but he felt that the song needed a better vocal performance than he could give, so he let bandmate Benjamin Orr sing it instead. A very wise, and selfless, move. Unfortunately, Ben died of pancreatic cancer in 2000. Gone but never forgotten and the music will live on forever. The Cars - Drive (Live Aid 1985)
