That’s because it was technically Kong’s movie. This is just like the comic books. Whoever’s comic book it is, the writers give them the upper hand. For instance, when Hulk appears in a Fantastic Four book, Thing usually beats him. When Thing is in the Hulk comic Hulk usually bests him. If this had been a stand alone Godzilla movie, Kong would have got his ass kicked.

Godzilla wasn't trying to kill Kong, he was just angry that he called him out after beating him before. If Mothra hadn't showed up, Kong was dead.

If Kong had been dragging a knocked down Godzilla by its tail & then got blasted away by Mothra's blast, that could be considered a win, but the fight ended when Godzilla was the one standing on top of Kong preparing to kill him. I don't see how Kong "won" this !!!
