To add to this; research is not meant to confirm your biases. If you start a study and the results go against your hypothesis, you’re supposed to fully explore it whether you like the information or not.

You don’t need an advanced degree to know that, you literally should be learning how to research and question all the things you know in high school and frankly when you find out shit the gvmt has done you’ll learn to never trust anything fr 😂 cause omg the propaganda is strong

THIS!! I married a triple board certified physician. He’s just a brilliant man. But he WILL NOT answer questions unless they’re in his direct specialties, despite years of medical education and experience, because he knows others know more. Smart people know they don’t know all.

You don’t need a degree to know that. Intelligent people don’t require appeal to authority to critically think. Yes, a Master’s teaches you to do a lot of research and writing (still based on citations.) Intuitive intelligence & logic are innate regardless of degree status.

imagine thinking you need a higher education to think critically

😂 My Semi-Ivy League upper grad education taught us how superior we were. They flatter you, teach leftist ideology, and take your money. The irony of the video is that he's saying, 'we know how to think and you don't' and he doesn't realize that he's just regurgitating propaganda ... without thinking.

Untrue, some of the smartest, first principles thinkers dropped out or never went to college. Critical thinking, curiosity, humility are learned early on in life and absolutely not related to whether you got a degree or not.

The irony is he’s making broad statements about how others w/o degrees think or how they process information as tho he knows everything

Beautifully said. And not just in advanced degrees. That was something I picked up while working on my Bachelor’s. I often say it’s about curiosity - always questioning “Hey. Why do I believe that? Is that rooted in assumption? Bias? Could I be wrong? I’ll check that.”

It’s also called humility…..the more you know, the more you realize you don’t know, and that makes you teachable. The most dangerous people are sociopathic know it alls with lots of power. Sound familiar‼️

My teacher in my last year of high school gave us assignments that required research and it would take us all weekend to do. Oh how I resented her. But even though I only have a high school degree I am grateful for the gift she gave me to be able to do critical thinking.

Naw, we’ve experienced Drs. who can’t be bothered to use their brains to do ANY research beyond pamphlets big pharma provided. We’ve experienced “scientists” follow a talking point just to get funding from a grp that controls narratives. Edu has been hijacked. It needs an enema.

I certainly learned I didn’t know jack week 1 of grad school and was never intellectually cocky again.Seems less educated people often rely on others’ opinions instead of doing own research.I worry if anyone will develop critical thinking skills with AI’s influence on school/work

Yes, this is what I’m always telling people. They don’t want you educated because it complicates their grifting, and it’s harder to gaslight people who have developed critical thinking skills.

When I did my second degree, I learnt no one cared about my thoughts every statement must be backed by research and referenced properly else you would fail.

It’s not just education. Smart people tend to chase knowledge because their brains reward curiosity. The more they learn, the more connections they see, and the more questions pop up. It’s a feedback loop: understanding one thing just exposes ten more things they didn’t know. That constant itch to fill gaps keeps them digging deeper, not because they need all the answers, but because the process itself is stimulating. Ignorance feels like an open tab in their head that they need to close.

You sound like an arrogant pompous ass that needs to be humbled and the fact that you believe that you are more intelligent than someone that doesn't have a degree makes you sound algorithmically ridiculous. I could study a phd's words and learn something new and make what you're saying relevant. But at the end of the day I think the real question is why the hell are you having this conversation without your shirt on?

I haven't heard anyone say don't seek higher education. I have however, heard plenty of people say not to waste your money on worthless degrees like, gender studies. Or that you'd be a thousand times better off going to trade school than getting a master's in turtle psychology.

Believing that the only people who are accomplished at research and critical thinking are PhD students and PhDs is the stupidest fucking thing I’ve ever heard in my whole life.

Having an “earned” two advanced degrees in midlife AND then being a faculty member at a major university, I can tell you that using critical thinking skills, higher ed IS indoctrination at the most sophisticated and evil way. Your post is a clear example of it working in you.

I have lived long enough to encounter highly educated as well as self educated. There is no magic that transforms a person into a critical thinker. They either are or aren't. I also know people who only finished high school that are brilliant and humble critical thinkers.

As a college graduate this isn’t just with a high level degree. This is college period you don’t have to have a phd or bachelors to learn to critically think. There are people that have never been to college and have better critical thinking skills than the ones that do.

Profilbild von J. Favorite

This was true 50 years ago but the internet has changed things. Now those who need to be spoon-fed are going to college and getting advanced degrees, sometimes simply to avoid working. Self learners are saving the money and teaching themselves useful skills or learning on the job. There are a few professions where a degree is necessary, but it is probably less than 10% of those in college.

I agree with everything you said because I’m the same way. However, I don’t have an advanced degree so I don’t think it’s specific to that, rather than the individual. Most people, I think, simple don’t want take the time do learn anything else. The future is cooked lol
