Robots can now reconstruct 3D scenes in real time from a single RGB camera. [📍 Projects page + paper] No depth sensor. No retraining. 30 FPS. Weekend Storm Update Despite what you might have heard… I am STILL tracking the potential for a significant snow event this weekend. If it happens, the snow would arrive Sunday afternoon/evening. Model Guidance has been all over the place but I’ve been fairly consistent with my message: This looks like a Miller B Nor’Easter. Miller B storms typically have a mix line that sets up along I-78/I-80 in eastern PA and NJ. The European Model suggests that mix changes over to heavy snow as this storm strengthens. Whether or not that actually happens is pure speculation at this point. There are some non-linear processes that need to go exactly correct for this storm to produce significant snow. And now, the recipe for the room-temperature glass layer… although unfortunately, you probably won’t get very far with it. The reason I haven’t shared the recipe until now is because I wanted to keep the Nobel Prize all to myself. NO. It’s because I spent the last two weeks trying to eliminate one component from the equation — a component that is almost certainly not something the average modern household has lying around. But now I’m going on vacation 🏝️, and obviously I’m not taking my labs with me. I’m not going to continue the experiments, I won’t be posting either, so it’s going to look as if I’ve simply disappeared. “Look, the guy tricked us and then disappeared without a trace!” Well, no. The result is real, the recipe is simple — you just probably won’t have the starting material you need. And despite struggling with this for two weeks, I couldn’t find a substitute for it. But maybe you will! 👍🏻 So I’m sharing the recipe as I currently know it, exactly as it is, in case someone can take it further while I’m sitting on a beach getting a tan. All I ask is that if someone manages to completely solve this mystery while I’m away, please consider a shared Nobel Prize! 🤪 So, the “secret ingredient” is none other than old, completely whitened, end-of-life waterglass. Yep. The stone shown in the video is proof that the glass layer is actually a precipitation. The layer is present on one side of the stone, but completely absent on the other side, even though the stone was standing vertically in the solution. Don’t let the visibly rough condition of the glass layer fool you — this was the first one, and I subjected it to all kinds of tests - too early. The important thing is that there is glass on one side, and ABSOLUTELY NONE on the other, even though the stone was standing vertically in the solution! So this isn’t the bottom and the top of the stone. It’s the right and left sides. Yeah. The glass is indeed a preipitated layer. So let me explain in detail what I did the first time I got this result. This stone was cast in that sour cream container (so it is an artificial one), and then I cut it in half with an angle grinder because I wanted to see what was inside. The inside was quite crumbly, so I decided to strengthen it. I soaked it in this, then that, then something else, impregnated it with one thing and then another, thinking that eventually it would become stronger. And while doing all this, I dipped the stone into all kinds of things. Ash lye, wine, waterglass, God knows what else. At this point, it doesn’t really matter. The funny thing is that now, having reconstructed what actually happened, I wasn’t trying to create a glass layer at all. I was simply trying to strengthen a crumbly stone. But there wasn’t enough waterglass in the lab to completely cover the stone standing in the container. Fill up with water? Nooo! I didn’t want to dilute it with water, so I started looking around in the cupboard and found a bottle of waterglass that was more than a year old and had already turned completely white. I poured this waterglass into the container on ONE SIDE of the stone. And I really mean one side. I did NOT mix it. I thought the waterglass will be "smart enough" to mix its old self with its new self. But the old one didn’t flow around to the other side. It simply accumulated against this curved surface of the stone and deposited there. The best evidence that this is exactly what happened is that even toward the edge of the curved section, the layer wasn’t nearly as thick as it was where I actually poured the old waterglass. And on the cut side of the stone, where I DID NOT pour any old waterglass, absolutely nothing was deposited. And this old waterglass is the thing you probably don’t have at home. Because modern people simply throw this stuff away. “It’s gone bad. Into the trash.” I spent the last couple of weeks trying to find an alternative solution that doesn’t require this old waterglass. Exactly so that I could start public beta testing. I didn’t want to release a recipe that would require you to wait an entire year to have one of the ingredients before you could even start experimenting with it. So I tried artificially aging the waterglass using all sorts of methods — baking soda, acids, slaked lime, carbon dioxide — but none of them produced suspended particles in the waterglass. So far, only waiting did. I did, however, lose a SodaStream machine in the process. RIP. 🪦 So, for now, the answer seems to be: either wait a year, or find some old waterglass in your cupboard. I haven’t found another way. Over the past few weeks, a few people volunteered to beta-test the process. But I only chose people who have been working with me for a long time, so there was at least a chance that they might have some old waterglass, or artificial stone, or both, at home. Mondo Mondo in Australia actually did the experiment, and it worked. I don’t know the Canadian guy, Odhinn , so I have absolutely no idea how he did it. Mondo’s waterglass wasn’t completely white, but it was thicker than normal — 46% from the shop — and it was at least six months old. Bingo. The experiment worked for him. What’s interesting is that once I finally identified the old waterglass as the responsible component, I tried using it directly — just soaking stones in the old waterglass by itself. And that didn’t work 😵 The important thing is (?) the mixture and ratio of fresh and old waterglass. Something like two-thirds fresh waterglass and one-third completely whitened, old waterglass. The explanation may be the following — and this isn’t me saying it, it's Mr. Grok: "The old waterglass provides the amorphous silica nuclei that are essential for the precipitation, while the fresh waterglass provides the chemical activity and high pH that keep the whole process going." Okay! There’s one more thing I need to add. I was only able to create really thick precipitated layers on artificial stones. All the other thick layers, such as the ones on granite or eggshell, were not precipitation. Those were simply the thickened sludge that had formed, which I then smeared onto the surface. Because when an artificial stone is dipped into the magical mixture, it somehow thickens the entire mixture. Even in the last experiment, when I thought the egg was responsible for thickening the magical mixture, there was actually a small piece of artificial stone sitting in the corner of the container. From there, suspicious brownish streams were spreading in every direction. In other words, the artificial stone was releasing something that caused the entire mixture to turn into a gel. So, that’s where we are right now. Feel free to experiment. As far as I know, apart from the half-dead waterglass, I haven’t found another method that works. And now, my flight is about to leave. ✈️

One more secret before the pharaoh’s curse erases my brain later today. This is my legacy for you to continue. Goodbye! Remember that year when I desperately tried to cast the ancient Egyptian “impossible ashtray” using countless tips and tricks and failed badly every single time? The problem back then? I was unable to come up with a mix that hardens without cracking using a few millimeters thickness only. I tried to pour the geopolymer mix onto a wax shape 🕯️ , a balloon 🎈, then onto the outer side of a bowl etc. But no matter how hard I tried, my “impossible ashtray” fell apart into coin sized pieces because of cracking. I have wasted gazillions of hours, and enormous amounts of metakaolin and waterglass just to learn how NOT to cast this object. But the impossible ashtray must be a casting, no matter what. Right? I admired ancient Chinese porcelain’s precision for a long time but it took me more than a year to connect the two. This is how slow my brain 🧠 is. Because who cares? There was certainly no connection between ancient China and Egypt, right? Except… History Investigation by Vee showed us that ancient Chinese people used the very same tools for jade works than Egyptians for… khm 🫣 Is that a connection or a coincidence? God knows. But even if it’s a coincidence, it was worth checking whether porcelain making techniques could have been anything to do with geopolymers. What makes porcelain different from everything else is that they pour the porcelain mix INSIDE a hard mold (made from gypsum), let it dry for 2-4 minutes and then pour the rest of the mixture out of the mold. So they are creating a few mm thin layer INSIDE, on the inner wall of the mold. And then, as the porcelain mix is shrinking (lightbulb moment!💡) while drying, it will release the mold and you end up with a precision mug or other object ready to go into the oven. Now have a good look at my very first, not cracked, beautiful geopolymer “precision vase” created using the porcelain method in a plastic container. Yes, it is red. I swear I’ll redo it with white metakaolin. Yes, it’s not an ashtray. Yes, it inherited its precision from a 21st century object. Yes, yes, yes. But! It’s a few millimeter thick cast stone in a shape of a bowl! A STONE!!!!! 🪨🪨🪨🪨 How cool is that? Do you think it’s still impossible to create the “impossible ashtray” via casting? Fun fact: the impossible ashtray is “carved” from “anortoistic gneiss” officially, which is a fancy made up word for WE DON’T KNOW.

But even if it’s a coincidence, it was worth checking whether porcelain making techniques could have been anything to do with geopolymers. What makes porcelain different from everything else is that they pour the porcelain mix INSIDE a hard mold (made from gypsum), let it dry for 2-4 minutes and then pour the rest of the mixture out of the mold. So they are creating a few mm thin layer INSIDE, on the inner wall of the mold. And then, as the porcelain mix is shrinking (lightbulb moment!💡) while drying, it will release the mold and you end up with a precision mug or other object ready to go into the oven. Now have a good look at my very first, not cracked, beautiful geopolymer “precision vase” created using the porcelain method in a plastic container. Yes, it is red. I swear I’ll redo it with white metakaolin. Yes, it’s not an ashtray. Yes, it inherited its precision from a 21st century object. Yes, yes, yes. But! It’s a few millimeter thick cast stone in a shape of a bowl! A STONE!!!!! 🪨🪨🪨🪨 How cool is that? Do you think it’s still impossible to create the “impossible ashtray” via casting? Fun fact: the impossible ashtray is “carved” from “anortoistic gneiss” officially, which is a fancy made up word for WE DON’T KNOW.

This is why I fell in love with the fans of Red Star Belgrade (Delije). I have never seen or played in a better atmosphere than this one especially when we play at the Maracana stadium. With Delije away games feels like home games and that pressure to always get the first goal early to trigger the fans can be good or bad sometimes if you don't score early. I love every song I love how both old and young people show their love and support for the team. Red Star is like the Real Madrid of the Balkan region with a lot of history and great traditions. Playing in front of this amazing Fans and how they light up the stadium with their enthusiasm is something special. Zvezda Volime te 🔴⚪️

Hello Hugh Thomas , let’s do it one by one, sample by sample, stone by stone. Whenever an artificial stone recipe of mine reaches a certain stage that’s the results are comparable to the natural version I’ll send a cast sample to you (with its mold) to analyze. The first one could be this perfectly chiseled fake limestone cube. As you can see you can’t fit a razor blade between the stone and the cheap silicone mold from Temu. This proves my micro chiseling skills. The recipe is public, you don’t even need my cube, you could create your own - but you won’t. So I’ll send this cute cube to you. The “secret” recipe is: I started from wood ash lye, also called potash, or K2CO3, by slowly dripping water through hard wood ash. Hard wood ash from your fireplace, yeah. Then I added slaked lime, and the chemical reaction produced fine, molecular level CaCO3 particles, fine limestone floating in the liquid. FYI: the secret chemical reaction is, and was in the ancient times as well: K2CO3 + Ca(OH)2 = CaCO3 + 2KOH Yummy! Next step: I let the limestone particles settle, and poured the KOH, potassium hydroxide solution above (that also formed in the liquid, see above) into the kitchen sink as it is a very good drain cleaner indeed. I added water and poured it into the sink several times, trying to clean the slurry from the KOH. So yes, the cube is from almost pure limestone, CaCO3 - with some residual KOH contamination. The KOH contamination can be reduced infinitely, I just stopped after 4 rounds. (Pro tip: put the slurry into a filter bag and put the bag into a mountain creek for an hour.) The next step is filtering and pressing the remaining liquid from the slurry. Because it’s a wet mess at this point. Pressure is a key factor to success! At least one thing is accurate from the universal canon: no pressure-no stone. How do I know? By trying and failing a few (dozen) times. So I poured the white limestone slurry into a sock 🧦 and pressed and squeezed it by hand - and that was JUST enough pressure for the magic to happen 😮 It looks like nature/god is on our side, everything is working as it was designed this way. Then I put the almost dry limestone paste into this Temu mold. Fun fact: it still contains a lot of water which will eventually be pressed out as the crystallization progresses, so we’ll need to get rid of that water through a hole, a nub. But there is no hole 🕳️ on this Temu mold so I poured the excess liquid from the top a few times. Hardening time=drying time=crystallization time : 1 week. The important lesson I learned from this experience is as follows: I tried to understand why this sludge turned into hard stone, because, as we were told, IT IS IMPOSSIBLE, and my understanding is this: wood ash lye does two different magics in parallel for this to happen: 1. It magically contains the right kind of contamination to facilitate calcite crystal formation and 2. The incredibly high pH (remember, 2 molecules of KOH are produced from 1 molecule of K2CO3!) in the liquid boost the calcite formation even more. ———- My only request from you and your colleagues concerning this analysis is full, 100000% transparency. And be honest. I know something you clearly don’t: you have lost this battle already. We need the data fast, not in 4 years or something. Transparency means sharing whatever you find here on X, without scientific drama and pullbacks. We don’t need a 947 pages scientific paper. We need the results, the data only. NASA ARTEMIS II MISSION UPDATE The crew and Orion are approximately 94,117km to the Moon, they're also just over 350,000km away from Earth. They're also travelling at a speed of approximately 2,523km/h, this will start to increase as the lunar sphere of influence takes a hold of the crew and Orion later today. Approximately 41.8% of the mission has been completed. Currently the crew is into the Orion Crew Survival System Suit Developmental Flight Objective (OCSS DFTO) operations, which is essentially a simulated emergency onboard the spacecraft and involves the OCSS suits being donned along with the crews strapping themselves into their seats and the cabin pressure being dropped to 10.2 PSI. This of course is one of many extremely important objectives that is being performed during the duration of this test flight around the Moon. OTC (Outbound Trajectory Correction) burn #3 is also still planned for later today, this is very much subject to change though if NASA decides to skip this burn also. A simple MPC controller for path tracking implemented in python. Few resources actually teach it without assuming a PhD first. This open-source project does exactly that: An iterative MPC tracking controller (built with CVXPY and MuJoCo) that shows how to make a robot (or autonomous vehicle) follow a path and avoid obstacles in real time. → Autonomous logistics, robot navigation, vehicle control; there's a path-following algorithm behind all of it. → Most implementations are black boxes. This one shows you what's actually happening. → It uses convex optimization (no non-linear solver), and still handles real vehicle physics through iterative linearization. What makes it practical is that you can run it with the mushr car model in MuJoCo, or headless without any physics simulation if you just want to understand the logic. I spent the weekend at the San Antonio Riverwalk for the first time since I proposed to my wife, almost 8 years ago. Here’s the results 👇 What I saw was a grotesque, culturally homogeneous invasion of streetshitters. I could probably count with one hand the amount of Americans, and two were homeless sleeping on a stone bench. I felt unrepresented in my own home state. There is no longer the “replacement theory”, it’s moved to a full on “replacement mission” Indians were haggling with the boat drivers like they control the prices. Indians leaving $0 tip on a $150 family dinner after sending the food back because it had beef sauce. Turbans stuck out of the riverboat ferries and the stone bridges like whack-a-mole, and I wish they rented mallets. At one point there was somebody fishing under Selena’s bridge. We spent <2 hours walking and just left, nothing was enjoyable. There wasn’t even any cultural Mexicans in their Huipils, no shawls, no sombreros. Just turbans and Sarees, and red dots eye level as far as I could stomach to look. The big cities fall first in wartime, as the plague ravages through the smaller communities next who are usually oblivious to outside events. I was so shocked and appalled I didn’t even think to take a video for myself, so this is just a random TikTok I found but that also reinforces the narrative that it wasn’t a “one time thing” These roaches are everywhere and they’re not fucking leaving fast enough.

Why did they have a loophole like this in the first place? We should have had laws like this years ago to finally stop grave site robbers and vandalism. An Ohio bill seeks to create a felony offense for taking items or decorations from a gravesite This woman was so devastated by the cruelty of others I am hurt, angry, and heartbroken. Today, I went to my son’s gravesite at Green Hill Memorial Gardens Cemetery, and what I found brought me to tears. Everything I put out there is gone. Every flower, every decoration, every piece of love I placed to honor his memory... all of it is missing. To make things worse, the metal vase that’s built into the headstone has been broken off. How could this even happen? It’s all metal and connected to the stone. There is no way this could come apart on its own. On top of that, his gravestone is sinking into the ground on the front side. After all the money, time, and care I’ve invested to make sure his resting place was beautiful and respected, this is unacceptable. I have tried calling, leaving message after message, and I will keep calling until I reach someone who can explain what happened. Families should not have to endure this kind of heartbreak and disrespect. This isn’t just about missing items… It’s about respect. Respect for my son’s memory. Respect for grieving families.
