Elon Musk and Joe Rogan discussed animal agriculture in the latest episode of podcast The Joe Rogan Experience, with both of them making a number of inaccurate claims about meat’s impact on the planet. Raising animals, particularly cows, for meat has the biggest impact on the climate and the environment of all foods. Animal agriculture contributes at least 16.5 percent of total global emissions. The reason that ruminant animals like cows are so bad for the climate is that they produce methane, a potent greenhouse gas with up to 80 times the warming potential of carbon dioxide in its first 20 years in the atmosphere. In addition, the vast amount of land used to graze animals or grow food to feed them — 80 percent of all agricultural land — could otherwise be absorbing carbon if it were returned to nature. Leafy herbs like parsley and cilantro grow close to the soil, where they can easily pick up microorganisms, insects, parasite eggs, and soil particles. Because their leaves are curly and delicate, these contaminants can hide in the folds and be difficult to remove with a quick rinse. A simple soaking method can help: • 4 cups (1 L) water • 1 tbsp vinegar • 1 tsp salt • Soak ~10 min, then rinse well. Here’s the science behind it: Salt increases osmotic pressure in the water, helping detach small insects, debris, and parasite eggs from the leaf surface. Vinegar contains acetic acid, which lowers pH and helps reduce surface bacteria and microbes. Finally, running water washes away the loosened contaminants. The Irish government has budged under pressure from the protesting farmers and announced yesterday that it will reduce excise duties by 10c per litre on diesel and petrol. There will also be a delay in planned carbon tax hikes. Irish farmers, truck drivers, agricultural contractors, taxi and bus operators launched nationwide fuel protests on April 7th, blocking fuel depots, ports and Ireland’s only oil refinery with their tractors and other vehicles. The core issue is soaring diesel and petrol prices, which have jumped sharply due to the crisis in the Hormuz Strait. Protesters argue these costs, combined with Ireland’s carbon tax on fuels including “green diesel” used in agriculture, make operations unsustainable. Farmers highlight that running tractors, machinery, and transport for fertiliser, crops, and livestock has become prohibitively expensive due to the climate taxes. “No farmers, no food” is one of the main slogans used by the protesters. 🇮🇪

The amount of times I post picture of our pigs, contained by electric wires, moved within the forest and on pasture - that my pigs will somehow become feral problems for society is incredible. Complete misunderstanding of proper management of pigs within appropriate boundaries. If my pigs get “out” they are searching for me - specifically me who they know keeps their food and when I’m around they only know means food and water. All I have to do is call “pigs” - they know my voice or fire up the tractor and the come running to me. This is an overgrown, part of the farm harboring invasive weeds and vegetation that in about 3-5 weeks these breeders cleared. By the end of the week they will be moved to the region beyond this which is totally overgrown and do the same thing - preparing the area for seeding of native plants and general regrowth. This is regenerative agriculture - maybe not always picture pretty, but actually useful.

A planter of this size aggressively compacts the soil surface and pulverizes the critical soil aggregates. Just look at the plume of topsoil left in the planter's wake. Arguably worse than surface compaction is the subsurface compaction caused by the force of a 30-ton machine traveling over the field. An initial compaction layer develops as deep as 2 feet and continues upward as new hardpan layers form on top of each other with each subsequent pass of the planter. Eventually, the subsurface compaction meets the surface compaction, and what remains is soil with no water-holding capacity, devoid of life, without the ability to cycle nutrients and generally inhospitable to crops. Despite its speed and efficiency, this planter ultimately takes the life out of farming, from the soil on up to the human operator.

It directly pulls from the Lake Mead sourced municipal supply - Flexential Data Center facility used around 20 million gallons in one year - Other Data Centers in the area collectively used over 716 million gallons in 2024, with nearly all the water drawing from Colorado River and Lake Mead sources Pair this with droughts, water demand from agriculture and resident use and now there is almost nothing left… just look at this…. Apparently, I saw this video online and I decided to share. What this worker is applying is called bitumen, or what many of us know as bituminous coating. Most people think a wall is a solid, impenetrable block, but in reality, it is more like a sponge. Concrete and blocks have microscopic pores that pull water from the earth through a process we call capillary action. This thick black substance is the shield that stops that water from climbing up into the house. It is not about making the wall look good because this part will be buried under the dirt forever. It is about creating a skin that water cannot breathe through. When do you need to do this? The need for this arises because the soil is a very aggressive environment. Water is not your only enemy.. The ground also contains salts and sulfates that want to eat away at the cement. If this moisture finds its way to the steel bars inside the columns, those bars will start to rust. And when steel rusts, it expands, and that expansion is what cracks the concrete from the inside out. This coating is the only thing standing between your foundation and that kind of slow destruction. Thats is why if you see wet patches at the bottom of your walls inside your house, it usually means someone skipped this step or did it poorly during construction. You can apply this anytime you are building parts of a structure that will stay in contact with the ground. It is common in areas where the water table is high or where the soil stays damp for most of the year. This is a one-shot opportunity. Once you backfill the soil, you can never go back to fix it without a lot of expense and a lot of digging. It is about having the foresight to protect the heart of the building while it is still exposed. Please don’t ignore this if you need to. If you ignore it now to save a bit of money, you will be funding the future decay of your own home. I hope this helps.

🙏😢People are more desperate than they have ever been, my friends, and the danger is higher and more terrifying than ever. The bombing is everywhere, in all directions, and they target residents in their homes, so we know we are constantly at risk. It is the third and last day of Eid, but I am struggling to be cheerful when our circumstances are so miserable. The people who are forced to live out years of their lives in tents are constantly on my mind, constantly at risk and terrified at every moment. It's hard enough to listen to the drones and planes from within our homes, but under a fabric roof, it must feel so much worse. Parents are so worried about their children as everyone grows thinner, and it feels awful not to be able to provide our camp with clean water so that they can at least hydrate and feel clean. With dirty water, they constantly face sickness and disease, and I worry about the already thin and malnourished people who are not fit to recover from such terrible circumstances. Prices remain insanely high, at first I laugh, but then I feel like I could cry. The generator we are raising funding for costs $28000! How are we to survive these miserable circumstances with such high prices imposed onto us? It feels so cruel. The greedy merchants who take everything from us are souless, they pay no mind to who will live or die thanks to their cruel pricing. 🫂💔As an animal lover ever since I was a small child, it breaks my heart to see the condition of the animals in the streets. Every type of living thing is targeted by this seige, and the animals are suffering terribly from it. The animals that are still alive are skin and bones, and every type of canned meat is running out, leaving even those who rescue or look after their own pets unable to find adequate food to distribute. People have had to release their beloved pets to the wild to give them the best shot to survive so that they can find their own food or a safer place to be. It is more than heartbreaking, my friends. I am deeply worried about finding food for my cat shelter, and I desperately want to buy some of the last canned food available before there is nothing left at all. Please will you help me? Time feels like it is running out, my friends. Without a water generator, with diminishing food supplies, donations dropping, and the danger surrounding us, our deaths feel inevitable. I don't want to die. Please help me while we can still help others, please help my friends and I to continue to distribute food and to run our water distribution again. With all of my heart, I beg you, my friends.
