Currently studying how PS1 SPU works. Will need to implement my own sequence music reader/converter from scratch! See how Persona 2 uses PS1 sound chip nicely. Initially I thought it was CD audio, but no, it’s all sequenced!

If someone has done sequenced music for some PS1 game, let me know. I want to learn stuff, but there’s not much info except for raw specs. I want to know about the creative process/limitations/tricks.

More jams. Love that reverb so much.

What tool do you use to visualise the SPU state?

It's DuckStation's SPU debug window

You are doing a great job, which in the future can help many to create their own game for PS1

Thank you. Yeah, there’s so little tools/documentation/guides out there, need to do a lot from scratch pretty much 😅 My code is already open, but I also plan to write some articles and possibly make some videos about it all in the future.

PS1 SPU is an ultimate 24 voices amiga MOD player :)

Must play

Seeing the PS1 SPU in action is so cool. It's how I realized the car selection themes in Rage Racer and Ridge Racer Type 4 are sequenced

which bgm is this? i've never played persona 2 but this sounds like a bop

thank you!

this is fascinating, thank you for sharing!

You should look after SNES music tutorials, after all, the SPU is nothing more than a souped up SPC700!

mad respect
