Cutting disability support will push thousands into destitution – hitting Labour areas hardest. It’s morally wrong and politically reckless. Polling shows the public overwhelmingly backs wealth taxes over cuts. Those with the broadest shoulders should bear the burden.

My Mrs loses her PIP. I stop being her carer and the £81.90 per week to look after her. I'll have to go and find work but she'll still require care. So into the Social Care system she'll go and the £1k a week the taxpayer will need to pay to care for her. It's nonsensical drivel.

Thank you, Neil. Support means the world. And cutting benefits, the threat alone has caused at least 3 suicides, 2 I’m personally aware of. Labour will never be accountable for the damage they’ve done to disabled people already. Cuts will kill many more

Incentives for inactivity? They just aren’t willing to listen are they. No-one wants to live on meagre benefits far below the national living wage. Those who can’t work still won’t be able to work when they take away the benefits.

Funny Really, who's actually behind this consultative green paper? Look past Ms Reeves, Ms Kendall and Sir Stephen Timms...you'll find the commission for social justice and government "advisor" Sir Iain Duncan Smith... Maybe it's me - but hasn't IDS caused enough pain already?

@johnpringdns Very well said Neil, and a sorely mistaken response from the Minister. PIP *enables* many disabled people to work. Reducing eligibility for PIP & support for carers only pushes 500,000 people into poverty, but perversely hits cash-strapped councils in social care costs.

@NeilForPoole if my PIP benefit is cut, I can't afford safe food for my MCAS & bowel condition, I'll get sicker, need A&E etc If I can't afford my expensive supplements, my M.E, Fibro, EDS has no NHS treatment. I'll need to see GP more, sicker & possibly bedbound.

The way he talks says it all doesn’t it ‘perverse incentivise’ why talking about removing support from disabled people that will push them into poverty Thanks for trying but that response is just so appalling

Starmer told the @CommonsWorkPen that he is ready to press ahead without an impact assessment. Claims that vast numbers of disabled people won't be pushed into poverty, as forecast by OBR, because they will get jobs! @Keir_Starmer

Then defy the whip and vote against. Let your conscience overcome your fear of upsetting Starmer and his right wing cohort.

Keir Starmer trying to rationalise cuts to the Winter Fuel Allowance and cuts to Disability Benefits Sorry, but when Labour's own impact assessment shows that pensioners will be pushed into poverty, or that disabled people will be put in poverty, by applying either of those policies, you don't carry on with them, you find a better way And the shame of Labour putting the burden on poor old pensioners and the disabled instead of balancing the books with a wealth tax on those with £10m+ whose quality of life would not be impacted by a wealth that, it's disgraceful Should millionaires get the winter fuel allowance? No But does that mean we take it away from the poorest pensioners? Also no Should disabled people be denied the opportunity to work if they can or wish to? No But does that mean you start cutting disability benefits putting them into poverty? No Whoever is advising Labour is doing a very bad job, because the solutions are easier First fix the threshold for WFA and make sure no elderly person loses out, then apply the changes First start providing support services to disabled people who can and would like to work, and when their income reaches above a certain threshold then phase out disability support It's not rocket science, its policy with compassion and with simple principles We all know the Conservatives left a mess, but we don't clean up that mess by targeting the old and the disabled Whatever bubble Keir Starmer is in, I hope he steps out of it before it's too late And that includes finding a backbone and calling our Israel for murdering hundreds of Palestinians, shooting them, while they queue up for food Keir Starmer's silence on Israel's war crimes, and the admission of ethnic cleansing by Israeli politicians, really is such a let down Labour are meant to be the better party - but some of their actions up until now are disgraceful, heartless and cruel I didn't expect us to be in this situation a year into a Labour government, yet here we are Snap out of it Labour and do better, you're letting the country down
