You know what's crazy. With what we learn about how Viltrumites usually roll, Nolan WAS ACTUALLY still being light on Mark with this ass whooping. It truly was Mark's words that made him look at his bloody self and go "I'm just like my mom and dad... and for what?!?"

The tear drops from Nolan really set it in motion too. Great episode.

God Season 1 looks so much better it's genuinely depressing looking back at it and I'm usually pretty lax on the later seasons.

Honestly I don’t see anything surpassing the end of season 1 everything was built up so well.

500 years later , Mark got everything except his father

Even tho nolan was brutal he showed growth he let go of 500,000 years of what he was taught for his son.

I don't think it is coincidental that what he does with mark resembles the viltrumite rite of passage shown in season 4. So in his moral canon beating his son almost to death is perfectly normal.
