Dan Rickert graduated from West Point and commissioned into the cavalry, running Bradleys and gun trucks through Iraq in 2008 before going to selection and finishing his nine years in uniform on a Special Forces team with 10th Group. He left the Army in 2015 and spent the next... eight years at Palantir, moving from project management to international work and eventually to chief of staff on the defense side. He is now VP of Operations at Air Space Intelligence, the company the FAA selected to rebuild the software that runs the national airspace. Much of this conversation is about what people get wrong about the defense industry. He argues that competition produces a better product for the people using it, that a human has to stay in the loop on any decision that matters, and that skepticism is healthy either way. We also worked through privacy and security, and whether the two actually have to be traded against each other. From there we covered drone warfare and trench fighting in the same conflict, rebuilding an identity after the uniform comes off, and the work of modernizing air traffic control. Why Elon didn't want to be CEO: "[Elon] is at core, an engineer and a product guy. He has this great line where he said: "I realized you couldn't be fully in control of the product unless you were also in control of the company." He says he made a moral error, early in Tesla, where he was trying to have his cake and eat it too. He wanted to control the company without running the company. And that was the 2002 to 2008 era, where Tesla was just off to a really messy start. He was providing the funding. He was chairman of the board. But Martin Eberhard was CEO. Eventually, when Tesla was on the verge of death in 2008....Elon was pushed into the position of: "I have to be CEO. I don't want to be. It comes with a lot of chores. It comes with a lot of responsibilities. But if I want this company to be successful, I have to fully internalize and take responsibility for it." And that's what he did, even though he was also in the same position at SpaceX. The fact that these companies are improbable, iconic, and that he funded and led them both in parallel...it's like running a two minute mile twice at the same time. It is such a higher degree of difficulty than most people can conceive of, and the fact that it worked is still unbelievable."

The question is whether or not the elections that we have here will be meaningful ones—whether the people will actually get the opportunity to express their views on the policy direction of the nation. And so again, it’s all about power—whether it’s gerrymandering, weakening the Voting Rights Act to take power away from people who the people in power now think are not supportive of them. It’s all about the acquisition and the use of power. And that’s one thing that we on the progressive side, on the Democratic side, have got to get used to. It’s not a bad thing for us to say that we want to acquire and use power. Doesn’t mean we’re going to use it in the same way that Republicans and conservatives have—in the negative way that they have done it. But Roosevelt wasn’t afraid of acquiring and using power. Johnson wasn’t afraid of acquiring and using power. That’s what we have to be about. And so, fighting back the way in which Governor Newsom has, and folks in California, by putting together Prop 50, is exactly what we have to do. We’ve got to fight for this.

Russia has launched another brutal attack on our Kharkiv – on a construction hypermarket, on Saturday, right in the middle of the day. As of now, it is believed that more than 200 people were in the hypermarket. All the emergency services are already on the site and providing assistance, rescuing people, and extinguishing the fire that has completely engulfed the building – 10,000 square meters. There are killed and injured people. If Ukraine had sufficient air defense systems and modern combat aircraft, Russian strikes like this one would have been impossible. And that is why we appeal to all leaders, to all states: we need a significant enhancement of air defense and sufficient capabilities to destroy Russian terrorists. This is a task that must be accomplished and can only be accomplished together with the world. Every day, we call on the world to provide us with air defense and to save our people. Every unmade decision to support us results in the loss of our people.

People of Nabi Ball!❤️✌🏾 There is progress in this team👏🏾 The patterns need time to develop and for the team to be consistent in them. ■ The left side looked better with Mmodi and Shinga✅️ ■ We needed Duba to attack the box and be available more when these 2 attacked on the left. He dropped to the edge of the box very often. ■ Unlike in the 1st half, there was a better understanding between Shinga and the LW. When Shinga overlapped, Mmodi was willing to occupy the pockets and combine. ▪︎ When Shinga inverted, Mmodi was happy to hug the line and take his man on. This understanding was key in that side coming to life in the 2nd half. ■ What was also impressive was the ability for them to create good combinations and movements with Mdu and Duba on the offense from the left side. ■ Lilepo from the right was getting into good goal scoring positions when the left was creating in the 2nd half, but poor decisions on the ball and slow reactions were a problem. He should compete on the LW with Mmodi. ■ In the 1st half, it was Monyane and Vilakazi on the right, and 2nd half it was Mmodi and Shinga with some of our best moments in attack. Overall, you can see the general attitude of this team changing. They want to play now. They want to stay on the ball and create chances from a position of control, not rely heavily on transitional moments to create chances. We have shown signs that we can control and be patient, but when opportunities to attack comes we are relentless, and we use a lot of speed to enter the final 3rd. We just need to work on the combinations and finishing in the final 3rd. On January 3, a meeting of national security advisors will take place in Ukraine. This is the first such meeting in Ukraine and it is focused on peace. European representatives will attend, and we expect the American team to join online. Fifteen countries have confirmed their participation, along with representatives of European institutions and NATO. Next, on January 5, there will be a meeting of the military – chiefs of general staff. The main issue is security guarantees for Ukraine. Politically, almost everything is ready, and it is important to work through every detail of how the guarantees will function in the air, on land, and at sea – if we succeed in ending the war. And this is the key goal for all normal people. On January 6, a meeting at the leaders’ level will take place – European leaders and the leaders of the Coalition of the Willing. We are preparing now to ensure that the meeting is productive, that support increases, and that there is greater political confidence both in the security guarantees and in the peace agreement. I thank everyone who is helping us.

We need to be talking about the reality of hell. About the reality of eternity separated from God. About Satan, demons and the demonic realm. About the spiritual warfare we are in because we are now in a period of time they can see EVIDENCE of it when they look outside. Get right with Jesus. He died for you, took your place on the cross so that through the blood that He shed, you can spend eternity in the presence of God Almighty.

Alastair Crooke’s (Alastair Crooke) assessment exposes the irreversible breakdown of the petrodollar system that has sustained the Anglo-American financial oligarchy since 1973. Control of Hormuz now rests with a sovereign Iran, forcing the Gulf states to abandon the speculative casino economy and return to real production. The war’s expansion into Iraq signals the final expulsion of imperial power from Southwest Asia and the absorption of the region into the Eurasian development order. “Trump will at some point have to acknowledge that Hormuz is in the power and the possession of Iran and that they will charge fees for passage through what is not international waters but the territorial waters of Iran. The other water corridors will not be allowed. This will be the resolution. Ultimately the Gulf states, who say they won’t accept this at the moment, will not have much alternative and will have to accept it. The prospects facing them are quite dark because this is also going to end the petrodollar economy that has brought us all these gleaming skyscraper buildings in the Gulf states. That whole architecture has to go. It will go. It was based on the petrodollar. It was entirely based on the period after 1973 and the huge increase in the price of oil—something we’re seeing a little bit of now. At that point the United States encouraged the Gulf states to deal in oil providing that they traded in dollars and remitted all of their savings back to the United States. That was the fuel for the financialized economy that then broke out in the United States and became even more implanted after the 2008 great financial crisis. This is a completely different economy from a real economy. This is what I call a casino economy. It’s all about insider trading. It’s all about the margins. It’s arbitrage between the morning and afternoon rates, between what is happening in Japan today and what is happening in Japan tomorrow. It produces nothing except huge wealth for the oligarchy. There is no support for that continuing. Overall, in the non-West they want—and Iran wants—the Gulf to go back to a real economy, something that provides for the people, that provides things and food and whatever their needs, and has to produce that. Eventually Iran will be a prominent, if not a dominant, power in the Middle East, and the Gulf states will either come to terms with this and change or they will disappear. It will be a different Middle East, and that will have wide repercussions across the region. What is missing from this instinctive analysis in the White House is the other point about what he has brought about and what the White House has brought about. It doesn’t really get through in the Western press much, but the war is spreading. It’s widening. It’s not just Yemen. It’s not just Lebanon. It is not just Syria. It is now Iraq.”

At that point the United States encouraged the Gulf states to deal in oil providing that they traded in dollars and remitted all of their savings back to the United States. That was the fuel for the financialized economy that then broke out in the United States and became even more implanted after the 2008 great financial crisis. This is a completely different economy from a real economy. This is what I call a casino economy. It’s all about insider trading. It’s all about the margins. It’s arbitrage between the morning and afternoon rates, between what is happening in Japan today and what is happening in Japan tomorrow. It produces nothing except huge wealth for the oligarchy. There is no support for that continuing. Overall, in the non-West they want—and Iran wants—the Gulf to go back to a real economy, something that provides for the people, that provides things and food and whatever their needs, and has to produce that. Eventually Iran will be a prominent, if not a dominant, power in the Middle East, and the Gulf states will either come to terms with this and change or they will disappear. It will be a different Middle East, and that will have wide repercussions across the region. What is missing from this instinctive analysis in the White House is the other point about what he has brought about and what the White House has brought about. It doesn’t really get through in the Western press much, but the war is spreading. It’s widening. It’s not just Yemen. It’s not just Lebanon. It is not just Syria. It is now Iraq.”
