I thank H.E Macky Sall for visiting us today as a response to my invitation. I have been to Senegal several times and I’m glad that a few Senegalese Presidents have been able to come to Uganda too. There used to be a big community of Senegalese here in Uganda. The only bad thing is that we have not done business with Senegal seriously. Therefore, we agreed to cooperate in the areas of Political, Economic, Environmental, Tourism, Agriculture, Intelligence and Security as well as Natural Resources. This is with emphasis on value addition and enhanced cooperation in the oil and gas sector, following the discovery of significant quantities in both countries. Furthermore, Uganda & Senegal being members of the African Peace Initiative/Plan, we shall continue to advocate for a peaceful resolution to the Russia -Ukraine conflict. I welcome him and wish him a wonderful stay in Uganda.

Africans Can Finally Fly Directly To The Caribbean The Transatlantic Slave Trade saw the kidnapping of some 12 and 20 million Africans from the Motherland by European criminals. Of those kidnapped, 20% would not survive the long voyage to the West, and of those who did survive, over 40% were sent to the Caribbean. Now, centuries later, the people of Africa and their brothers and sisters in the Caribbean, separated for all those centuries, are entering a new era of reconnection, on their terms. On May 24th, 2026, Nigerian airline Air Peace flew 200 African passengers directly to Barbados, officially kicking off this new era. Direct flights between Africa and the Caribbean have been years in the making, with Barbados, Nigeria and Ghana leading the charge. They come on the heels of several visa waivers between African and Caribbean nations, and at a time when Africans are calling louder than ever for free movement and trade between all African nations – including those beyond the Motherland’s shores.

To all Muslims in Nigeria, take time to reflect and learn from the unfortunate events at AFCON ’26, especially the match between the host nation Morocco 🇲🇦 and Senegal 🇸🇳. Both are predominantly Muslim countries, with over 97% of their populations identifying as Muslim. What may interest you is ther collective histories. The then king of Senegal (the King of Tekrur) was introduced to Islam by the Arabs, the ancestors of present-day Moroccans. He adopted Islam and initially introduced it to his people peacefully, but later enforced it through jihad warfare. Fast forward to today: Senegal is about 97% Muslim. Considering this history, one would expect Moroccans to treat Senegalese with respect, given that Senegal was successfully Islamized centuries ago and even carried out jihad on behalf of Arab merchants. But, as I have always said, no matter how hard we try as Africans, we cannot gain true respect anywhere in the world by clinging to the very regions and identities that were used to colonize us. You cannot be more Islamic than the Arabs, neither can you be more Christian than the Christiandom who brought this foreign religion to your doorstep. Despite Senegal being a Muslim country, and despite having fought jihad on behalf of Arabs, the Senegalese were still allegedly referred to as “monkeys” during AFCON by Moroccans. They were attacked and assaulted. Yet, the spirit of Africa, the God of Alkebulan, not Allah, granted victory to the best player at the end of the match. Do not get me wrong. I am not asking anyone to abandon his or her beliefs or religion. I am only urging us to begin to see and act beyond religion by putting humanity first and embracing our cultural values as African people. ~OIA✊🏼

I want to share fully my experience in Senegal and the respect Africa has for South Africa. I wish for South Africans to travel Africa. To see. To learn. To belong. Today was very emotional listening to Senegalese talk about us. About Thabo Mbeki in particular. I walked at a place called Soweto on Nelson Mandela drive. I walked up the African Renaissance Monument. In Addis Ababa, I met Nelly from Kenya who works in CAR and has businesses in Senegal. She has organised that his chauffeur drives my tour guide and I to the Gambia tomorrow. Today, I met 2 Nigerian ladies who didn’t understand French and were trying to communicate with their cab driver but couldn’t. I donated my tour guide to them and we got on our car and dropped them at Goree Island. They invited me to their birthday celebrations tomorrow. Did I tell you a visa is free for South Africans upon arrival in Senegal? Sixatyaniswa yiCAF qha no Patrice Motseoe neSenegal otherwise sigood. We have decided with my tour guide we are not talking about CAF and Patrice. For peace sake. Kodwa bathi yeyabo kumnyama kumhlophe! Oh the food was delicious!

Because even without immediate family, I have family everywhere. People around the world who love me, support me, and wish me well. So while I may not have anyone to exchange gifts with, I have the gift of doing what I love, the gift of your support, the gift of my voice, and the gift of life. I have a place to live, and I’m grateful for every person who’s part of my journey. You may not be blood, but you are family. If you’re blessed to still have your loved ones here, be present. Last night, I was sleeping on a small sofa in my mother’s room at the hospital, and like any son, I was extremely worried about her health. The whole night, I was comforted by only one thing. I was comforted by a nurse from Keralam who came in every hour to check on my mother. Every single hour, she would come and check on her. She would smile, and she would hold her hand. I found myself thinking about how many sons, daughters, brothers, and sisters have been comforted in their most difficult moments by nurses from Keralam. Early in the morning, I asked her, “Do you sleep at night, or do you work the whole night?” And she said, “I work all night.” So, while the whole world sleeps, women from Keralam, not only in Keralam but also in Delhi, across the country, and around the world, are comforting people, holding their hands, and making them feel at ease. « Ousmane Sonko must and will be freed » - I spoke this morning with BBC World Service about the unfolding events in Senegal and the conclusion is very clear: we’re witnessing the dawn of a regime and of a geopolitical era. Macky Sall, abandoned by all, including the United States, will have to back off. France, his last ally, which has tried to maintain at all costs its influence over Sénégal, has decimated its reputation in these last days, which have brought to the arrest of 200 citizens in less than 48 hours, including MP's and a former Prime Minister of... Macky Sall. The interventionism of France's new prime minister Gabriel Attal in the Senegalese electoral process has been the triggering factor of the current crisis. But "la françafrique" and its mechanisms of corruption of local elites have been the structural reason behind the current developpements. The insistance of the Elyseum to "save" Macky Sall and impose its candidate could only bring to this situation. The people of Senegal have had it. More than 1000 political prisonners rot in prison and impunity has been sytemic. The reestablishment of the electoral calendar, the liberation of Ousmane Sonko and of all political prisoners and the departure of Macky Sall have become unconditional requirements to the resolution of the crisis and the restauration of Senegalese sovereignty. We will stand by Ousmane Sonko until it happens.
