Data center power consumption is a problem if it drives up consumers’ electricity bills, says Flex CEO Revathi Advaithi: “Now, the power situation is different because if you have a utility that is directing power to the data center, taking it away from consumers and hiking bills for consumers,... show more

@RevathiAdvaithi every hyperscaler announcement says new jobs, every local utility bill quietly says who is paying for them

@RevathiAdvaithi if a utility can shift load off consumers to a data center on command that's a grid planning failure not a data center failure

Duh. Large commercial electricity fixed prices in ERCOT in 2019 before any incoming data centers: 3.5 cents per kWh all the way to the zone (excluding TDSP/delivery charges). After data center surge ramp up in April/May 2024: same fixed price terms -- 7.5 to 5.5 depending on term.

@RevathiAdvaithi data centers need balance or consumers pay more

@RevathiAdvaithi Flex CEO saying a utility directing power to data centers and hiking consumer bills is a problem is the grid catching the AI tab, I'd rather see the rate hike than the quote.
