Who's Really Profiting from Alberta's Data Centers? The Alberta government calls data centers a multi-billion-dollar opportunity. But what's the return for Albertans? These projects demand enormous amounts of electricity, natural gas, water and public infrastructure. They place new pressures on municipalities and local communities, yet the government has provided very little information about the long-term economic benefits to Albertans. How much provincial tax revenue will they generate? What will they cost taxpayers and how will they affect affordability and inflation? Why are municipalities and local residents being sidelined in the process? I'm not opposed to data centers. Alberta should absolutely compete for investment. But attracting investment at any cost isn't good government. That’s enough power for over 15,000 homes each. They want time to study the impact on the electricity grid, water usage, and the environment. 2/ Electricity bills have already increased significantly in recent years. Local towns have pushed back against these projects. Maine is saying: we need to understand the consequences before allowing more development. EXCESS LIQUIDITY MAKES 2027 ELECTION SPENDING A RISK TO THE ECONOMY - CBN Nigeria’s Central Bank Governor has warned that despite recent economic gains, the country faces significant risks to stability, especially with elections looming next year. Governor Yemi Cardoso told the National Economic Council Conference at the Presidential Villa that a large amount of liquidity remains in the system, and election year spending could destabilize the gains made by the Central Bank. He said past interventions, reaching ₦10.93 trillion, provided short term support but also created long-term distortions and higher costs of liquidity management. Cardoso also cautioned that monetary policy alone cannot stabilize the economy, highlighting food supply shocks, high energy costs, infrastructure deficits, and global trade tensions. He stressed the critical role of state and local governments, whose management of spending, deficits, and investment affects inflation, liquidity, and growth.
