David Marcus and I just sat down for an incredible conversation. For me, David is on the Mount Rushmore of stablecoin builders. He is what the young folks call an "OG". I pride myself on being able to extract valuable information for listeners, but David is such a cornucopia...

Board Certified OBGYN exposes what they must go through just to get one prescription approved by health insurance companies “This is what doctors are dealing with in 2025. So my patient needs a medication, an indicated medication for her condition. So I send the prescription to the commercial pharmacy - The pharmacist tells me that this medication needs a prior authorization and sends me a fax with a 1-800 number - The 1-800 number leads me to a pharmacy benefit manager that wants to ask my npi, my date of birth, the patient's information, what kind of the prescription is, how long do they need it for. Only to tell me at the end of the phone call that I actually have to call the patient's insurance company to authorize the prior authorization for the needed medication - So I call the patient's insurance company and once again, I have to verify my information, the patient's information, the prescription information, what the patient needs it for, only for the insurance company to tell me that this is not how they do prior authorization - So they're going to have to fax me some forms that I'm not allowed to do a prior authorization on the phone - So then the fax comes through and I fill it all out. The patient's information, my information, my npi, what the prescription is, how long they need it for, clinical documentation. And now we sit and wait and see if the powers that be think that the patient actually needs the medication” “I went to school. I went to undergraduate medical school, 4 years of OBGYN residency, then went back and did an integrative medicine fellowship, all for these people to dictate how my patient gets cared for. Please know that your healthcare providers are fighting for you day in and day out on things we don't get reimbursed for.” US Healthcare Insurance executives need to be thrown in prison for what they’ve done to our healthcare system

David Friedberg: The Eric Swalwell allegations were widely known about by California insiders, but held back for the perfect moment. Was this a hit job to clear the path for a preferred candidate in California? “Back in December, when it was first rumored that Swalwell was going to run for governor, I started making some calls to various folks to be like, ‘Hey, what do we think of this guy? Is he going to be a good candidate?’ I spoke to several people who independently told me that there's knowledge about this guy sending pics to employees, and that this guy has a bunch of stuff that's going to come out about him. And I largely kind of dismissed it, because I was like, if this is true, this would've all come out already. If multiple people are telling me about this, then I've got to assume that it's a rumor that's being used to block him from running for governor. And then everything that I had been told started to come out in the last week. So the striking aspect of all of this for me was how much knowledge there was about these various incidents with the guy, how so many people had this knowledge, and how no one had actually brought the knowledge to bear. Which begs the question, why did they not do what was right by the victims? Or, why did the victims sit on the sidelines waiting for the right moment to all come out together? These were all being held back purposefully and deliberately for a very particular moment in time when they were all brought forward to be used. And that's what was so striking to me is just how coordinated all of this was. My sense of it is that there are certain insiders, and he's not an insider. Katie Porter, I think, is who the Democratic establishment wants to be governor. She's an insider to national Democrats, she's an insider to California Democrats, and I think that she's the preferred candidate.”

$PLTR Sat down with Forward Deployed Architect at Palantir, Chad Wahlquist, for a discussion about where the world is when it comes to artificial intelligence and what role Palantir is playing in that world. We talked about why producing tokens for the sake of producing them doesn't create value, what partners actually want when it comes to AI, how AIP/Foundry/Apollo are pushing towards the next frontier, and what it takes to deliver meaningful results to an enterprise for them to be willing to adopt a new way of transforming their business operations. I also threw some dad jokes at him that I think he enjoyed. Thank you to Chad Wahlquist for taking the time!

.David Deutsch: The equivalent of consilience, that is, the unified meta-theory, as you put it, for all sciences, and I think actually more than a meta-theory, because I think more links them than just the structure and methodology and so on, was discovered by Popper. Again, I don't know whether this is historically the order in which things happen, but he is famous for his political philosophy and for his philosophy of science, and he found at one point that they are the same, that they both are about problems and about the fact that there is no such instruction from without, there is only conjecture from within. So that's why Lamarckism is false and Darwinism is true, and that's why group selection is false and individual selection is true, and so on. So I think it's already there in Popper. I think there's a lot more to it, and I tried to add another couple of things to it, so quantum theory and computation, but there's a lot that isn't in it, like consciousness and creativity and so on, that we have no idea of how those work and how they fit in with those other things. Gad Saad: Forgive me for interrupting you, David, I'm sorry. There is a book by Dean Simington, who's a psychologist out of, I think, UC Davis, that actually offers a Darwinian account for creativity. It's actually quite mind-blowing. So keep that in mind. I can give you the reference later, but go ahead. David Deutsch: I don't read such things unless they've already made an AGI. Gad Saad: I see. Okay, fair enough. David Deutsch: If they can't make an AGI, then they haven't got the full theory. They might have an idea for a theory, but then Popper has an idea for a theory, but he couldn't make one either. And Turing thought that there'd be an AGI by the year 2000, and that it would require two megabytes of memory. Now, he's obviously wrong about the year 2000, but two megabytes of memory, I reckon that's what it'll be. In other words, these large language models and all this massive computer power is going in entirely the wrong direction. The answer will be a philosophical breakthrough, which will allow, once we understand what we're trying to make, it will be relatively easy to make it with relatively few computational resources.

Can any of my friends from the Boomer Generation answer this for me? Why are the Boomers so offended when ask to see their ID? This bank teller was explaining how she goes through this all the time. They always tell her that they’ve been banking there longer than she’s been alive. Showing an ID is just a simple measure to prevent fraud and theft, yet they yell at her for it. I ask because this happens to me all the time, even on the phone. Back at the pizza shop I would have an elderly man call in an order for food and most of the time he picks it up himself, no problem at all. However he started sending other people to pick it up as well as have other people calling the order. When the person picking up shows me his card which I recognize his name which had his photo on it, I won’t accept it without and ID as well, just a precaution. He then had to come all the way down there just to yell at me because obviously it’s for him and I shouldn’t have hassled him. I tried to explain to him when he calls it in and picks it up I know it’s him. However when others call it in and pick it up, I can’t verify if it’s actually legit or not, what if somebody stole his card and tried to use it. He still had an issue with it and explains that his grandkids should be able to use his card, I tell him that’s not how it works and if he kept giving my staff a hard time I would ban him from the store. I don’t need anybody threatening the workers over something meant to protect him. Should I just have let anybody use his card without verification at the shop? What if somebody did steal his card and spent his money, then he would have been mad at me for letting them do it.

Norm Macdonald delivering his final emotional goodbye on David Letterman's show is heartbreaking, and honestly I would simply tear up every single time if I had to say goodbye to an icon like that. Norm Macdonald: Listen folks, this will be my last time on the David Letterman show. Norm Macdonald: We all know that David Letterman was the greatest talk show host who ever lived. Norm Macdonald: Mr. Letterman, he has no truck for the sentimental, but if something is true it is not sentimental, and I say in truth, I love you. David Letterman: Oh my god. No way you watch Norm say that without feeling completely wrecked💔😢

I’ve been trying to better understand how our thinking actually works. Not in theory, but in practice. What shapes it? What changes it? How much control that we really have over it? So to help me understand this, I’m sitting down with neuroscientist Dr David Eagleman. I didn’t expect this conversation to make me question something as basic as how I experience reality but it did. David is a Stanford professor whose work focuses on how to the brain builds our perception of the world and how it rewires itself based on experience. With rising global tensions and the rapid growth of AI, I wanted to have this conversation to show how uncertainty and risk affect the brain and how people process fear and stress. We discussed things like: - How to deal with existential fear. - Why constantly challenging yourself is the best thing you can do for your mind. - How to get learning and adapting as you get older. - Why memory is not as reliable as we assume? What became clear the longer that we spoke is that your brain is not a fixed system. It’s constantly adjusting itself depending on what you focus on, what you repeat and what you expose yourself to. It was truly illuminating speaking to David and I'm sure my neural pathways have expanded in really important ways because of him! For anyone that wants to know how to change your life by changing your brain, I recommend listening/watching this conversation.

Shane Battier says returning to Duke for his senior year cost him about $10,000,000 but winning a national championship and becoming more prepared for the NBA made it worth it “I had a good junior year. I was All-American, averaged about 19 [points] and probably could have came out then. Honestly, it was more important to me to be an impact player when I got to the league, and I felt like I wasn’t there yet. I was a power forward in college. I shot threes, but I was a stretch four essentially” “I knew if I went to the league, okay, I’m in the league. It probably cost me about $10 million for that one extra year I could have squeaked out. But at the time, it matters to me that I want to start. I want to be a good pro for a long time.’ So that last year of work was really important” “The leap of faith going through that process, I knew for where I wanted to be, I had to do it. But what I learned, my readiness… it was great that we won, absolutely. But you realize it really is about the journey and taking advantage of the opportunity. I was super proud of that decision”

Jensen Huang explains how he designed NVIDIA from first principles “With respect to building a company, the first thing you have to do—as with all problems—is start from first principles. What is this machine that we’re trying to create? What is its input? What is its output? What are the conditions that it’s in? What is the industry like? Is it a fast moving industry? Is it a bureaucratic industry? Is it a highly regulated industry? And what are you trying to build?” Thinking about it from this perspective, there were several things Jensen wanted to do with the company: “I wanted to create a company that naturally attracts amazing people, and the reason for that is our company’s mission is to solve computing problems that are barely possible.” He also wanted a company that was “as small as possible” and “empowered people.” “If you want an organization that obeys command and control, then you make it a pyramid just like the military—all the way back to the Roman Empire. But If you want to empower people, you want to make it as flat as possible so that information travels quickly.” He continues: “We also don’t have business units. We don’t have divisions. Everybody works as one, and the company is shaped in a way that allows us to build accelerated computing best.” Video source: Sana (2023)

Mercedes Mone on Vince McMahon being the reason why she left WWE. “I left for many different reasons. Um, a lot of personal stuff happened with myself and the chairman at the time and I didn’t like how he talked to me and how I was, you know, just talked down to. And I was like, you know what? It’s time to legit listen to your soul and your heart. There was a light that came to me one day and I just left WWE and my guides told me, and I’m guided to being a two-time champion at AEW.” “Yeah. A little crazy. That day he talked to me a little crazy. It was enough for my source of light to come into my body and go, if you stay, that’s not okay. This is for the rest of your life and what are you gonna teach your kids and just people. If you’re feeling like this from words after being here for 10 years. You gotta stand up for yourself and that’s what I did.” (2024)

Naval Ravikant on the right reasons to start a company “I really just wanted to be a founder,” Naval confesses with respect to the first few companies he started. “That desire kind of overrode everything… It was not a pure motivation.” Then his motivation shifted to money and power: “Nobody wants to talk about it, but [money and power] are fundamental drivers,” he admits. “I want to make money, and I want a company that has an influence. And that wasn’t that great of a motivation either.” Naval continues: “Now looking back in my career, I was most successful when I did projects because I was genuinely curious about them… Following my own intellectual curiosity gave me insight that led to good investments, startups, and outcomes.” Today Naval is in a position where he doesn’t have to do things for money or status, so he only works on products he wants to see exist: “What’s a beautiful thing I can make that wouldn’t exist if I didn’t put effort into it?” he asks himself. “And what people do I want to spend all my time around?” Naval reflects: “The truth is that when your material desires are somewhat met, you end up extremely bored… When you don’t have to hustle for a living, you’re like, ‘What do I do?’ You’ve lost your purpose in life. You can go meditate in a corner for a long time, but that gets boring too. You can go completely hedonistic, but that’s a death trap and just an empty lifestyle.” He continues: “What I want to do is self-actualize. I want to be the best version of myself. And what does the best version of myself mean? That means creating something. It’s better to create than to consume. It’s far more fulfilling to learn along the way and build… And I want to do it with friends — people that I really respect, admire, and enjoy spending time with… I wish I had that motivation and insight 20-30 years ago.” Source: Z Fellows (Aug 2025)

Congrats Midjourney and David. It has been a while since a new product introduction has gotten this kind of attention without paying any influencers. Look at X’s feed tonight for me. And why? Well the product will save many lives, yes. But that only explains a small bit why we are all excited tonight. For two it was kept pretty secret. One of the tightest kept secrets I have ever seen. Yeah one guy here on X figured it out. But no one in the audience knew. I asked many before it began. And David told me before he started he didn’t know the venue, which was an art museum, had strict rules regarding using mobile phones. That forced the audience to really pay attention. And not to capture it. Steve Jobs forced the same rules. But everyone knew they were gonna see a new phone when he introduced the iPhone. This caused a massively different vibe. Plus Midjourney had long been a leader in the AI space and his company before that. During his presentation he revealed how much AI that had that I didn’t even know and I was one of the few to cover it in his early days (Leap Motion). When we walked in David was sitting on stage. Several said hi. I did too and we caught up a bit. His accessibility is not to be missed. Every week he does spaces here on X and he answers everyone’s questions for hours. Everywhere I looked I saw VIPs from San Francisco and Silicon Valley. Met so many interesting people tonight including a couple building brain computer interface companies. They were there because of the mystery. His companies have been doing bleeding edge things with technology for decades. He didn’t seem scripted. Just talking about his life in a comfortable, humble way, that just gets you to listen more. Add it all up, and the beautiful videos and reveals, which applies a level of taste and intention that AI will struggle to match for years. One last thing. It is a company that makes humans better. It isn’t looking to force change. It made it so beautiful that you want to change. The spa is brilliant. I have had a full body scan at prenuvo in an MRI machine. It was like going to an office building. Cold and lifeless with danger signs on the door. This is me getting that scan. The experience couldn’t be more different. The AI industry should study David deeply. There are many lessons to learn from what Midjourney announced tonight that I hope everyone takes to heart.

Poor, Smart and Desperate The only thing I regret about this conversation is the fact that it took place before the tariff situation exploded. Because no one would have been better suited to answer my questions on that topic than my guest on this episode. His name is David Bahnsen, and aside from managing over $7 billion in assets, David has forgotten more about the global economy than most economists will ever remember. He has also written a terrific book called Full-Time Work and the Meaning of Life. It’s really good, and I wanted to talk to him about why he wrote it, and why he believes that retirement is rarely a recipe for happiness. I was also curious to learn about how a kid who never went to college wound up managing so much money, and how his philosophy and faith became so entwined in the cold calculus of high finance. Here's a short clip. Our whole conversation is here. But I still would like to know who is right and who is wrong about these tariffs…
