$PLTR Sat down with Forward Deployed Architect Chad Wahlquist to discuss Palantir's Multi-Modal Data Plane (MMDP). Part of the reason the world has begun to care about Palantir is because of the company's obsession around delivering outcomes. Through Q2 earnings, a record number of public companies spent valuable time on their earnings calls discussing how Palantir is changing their business. While many SaaS businesses create toxic forms of usage to keep you hooked, Palantir is geared towards reducing costs and improving margins. CEO Alex Karp has now made it a mission to try to get customer unit economics to resemble Palantir's own unit economics (a rule of 94 on a traditional rule of 40) so that partners can experience the benefit of exceptional operating leverage as the business scales, which is VERY hard to achieve, but Palantir is actually aligned, both philosophically and technically, to help partners achieve it. Chad broke down the technical aspects of how MMDP is a new framework to offer partners a way to store data anywhere, compute data anywhere, and use any model. Will Cain: There is some concern Palantir is playing a large role in the security, state, foreign affairs and surveillance in America. And I think there's a fair amount of concern, maybe even some skepticism from some who would share other political points of view with you about the role of Palantir. What would you tell them about surveillance and this private company? Joe Lonsdale: So Palantir, first of all, it's doubling in the commercial markets...So it's a bigger commercial company for a lot of its value. It's not just a government company. When we did start to work in the government, you have to see what was there before. There are no audit trails in the watchers. They're abusing data. They were using it incompetently. What Palantir is doing is bringing two things: One, it's bringing competence to do these things well. And then two, it's bringing a framework of civil liberties where we watch the watchers and everyone around them can see what they've done. They can't hide their work. Because I don't trust government. I'm a civil libertarian, but I do want government to be competent enough to keep our nation safe and to defeat our adversaries and to stop wasting money. Will: We're all concerned about government and government oversight, but we also want to guard against a company that has too much power. So how do we ensure that with for example, a company like Palantir, is that through trusting someone like you or Peter Thiel? Is it the trust of your dedication to civil liberties? I sat down with Mike Gallagher, Head of Defense at Palantir, to discuss his role in helping Palantir navigate a rapidly changing geopolitical landscape. Mike represented Wisconsin’s Eighth District from 2017 to 2024. He authored legislation to force TikTok’s divestment from Chinese ownership and drove investigations into issues like the Chinese Communist Party’s role in the fentanyl crisis while advocating for stronger deterrence in the Indo-Pacific. Outside of the important work that Mike has been doing, he is one of the most humble and down-to-earth people that I have ever met. There is a deep level of empathy he has for making sure people understand his role at Palantir and why we simply cannot take our freedoms for granted in the West. Will Palantir $PLTR play a key role in Golden Dome? 🔐🛰️🍙 “I always talked about Palantir that Palantir did really well. It takes information from disparate sources and connects the dots for you. So it can take intelligence, it can take satellite images, radar intelligence, even human intelligence assets on the ground, firsthand testimony, human assets, spies, that kind of stuff. All of these different things from completely different areas, information from battleships, from ground stations. and it can analyze it all at once together and tell you what the threat is, where it is, and it can do it much much faster than more traditional means. So when we talk about the Golden Dome, what we're talking about is a defensive shield that one runs from sea to land to space in terms of physical assets, being able to intercept threats and deny enemies, you know, access to the United States mainland. But we're also talking about a whole new way of perceiving, tracking, and identifying threats and ultimately ntercepting them from like kind of a software stage, from a digital uh stage. And so that's that's kind of what it's going to be. It's going to be an AI, you know, space, you know, real futuristic type type shield to to defend. So, I mean, that's going to cost a lot of money.”

Interesting that in three of my recent conversations with Krishna at Anthropic, Dylan Patel, and Gavin Baker, each said that frontier tokens are capturing the majority of the economic value. Gavin: "An overwhelming amount of the economic returns to AI at the model layer have been at the frontier. That's surprising to me, and I think it's been surprising to a lot of people. This is one of the most important questions to be answered, and you need to have a hypothesis on it as an investor." Krishna: "We think the returns to frontier intelligence are extremely high. Customers invest really heavily in more tokens with the newer models. The ones at the frontier clearly are capturing this economic value, driving meaningful ROI for customers. The returns to frontier intelligence are not slowing down." Dylan: "No one gives a crap about GPT-4 class models. They want the frontier because the frontier lets them create the economically valuable things."
