Cats are way more intelligent than most people think. I say that as someone who has had cats the entire life.

One specific and well-known example of an animal communicating with humans is Koko the gorilla. Koko was taught American Sign Language (ASL) by Dr. Francine "Penny" Patterson and other researchers, starting in 1972. Koko learned over 1,000 signs in ASL and could understand about 2,000 words of spoken English. She used this ability to express her thoughts, feelings, and desires, engaging in complex conversations with her trainers. For example, Koko famously asked for a pet kitten for Christmas and was able to name it "All Ball" because of its lack of a tail.

This little guy visits disabled elderly regularly. He was abandoned at 4 weeks old, was malnourished and his eyes were so infected that they had to be removed a month after being dropped off at a local vet. His name is Tommy, and if you don't love him, you're a bad person.

This is the Unsinkable Sam. It served during World War II and survived the sinking of three separate ships.

the obvious champ in the animal kingdom here was Koko. Koko was taught sign language, eventually learning over 1,000 signs and understanding around 2,000 spoken English words!

In the human brain, the cerebral cortex contains around 21 - 26 billion neurons, while a cat's cerebral cortex has about 300 million neurons. Experts believe that a feline's intelligence is comparable to that of a 2-year-old human !!!
