Rep. Teresa Leger Fernández: This is horrible. When I went in there, that’s the first thing I thought as I started doing my searches: they are going to be recording this. And this is exactly why this whole process is flawed and a sham. How do they expect us to be able to go and investigate them if we’re given, you know, a minute? I mean, when we’re given limited time, do we need to review the files? They should be doing an investigation. They should be doing a thorough review and going after all of the people in those files whose names are right there that they haven’t investigated. It’s their job at the Department of Justice. They should be doing that.

And so what is so challenging about this is that this isn’t just like going to the grocery store and buying the generic cereal and switching over. How do you actually accommodate when you can’t afford medicine, when you can’t afford your housing? This is a crisis… MacFarlane: Do you think the administration is taking it seriously? AOC: No, they’re making it worse because what the Trump administration is doing is entering sweetheart deal after sweetheart deal, whether it’s with Monsanto and our food supply with glyphosate, whether it’s housing, whether it’s, you know, these crypto agents that are engaged in money laundering—I think at least. I think they are not only ignoring it, they see it and they are actively making it worse. And what they think is that people are too dumb to understand what it is that they’re doing. They’re banking on the fact that people will support them no matter what and that nothing will change that support. And if Mike Johnson wants to say that this shutdown is going to last a long time, it is because he is choosing to punish the American people.

Moore: Telling people who have worn the uniform of this country, who have been willing to pay the highest price to be called American—people who have done things that the vast majority of this country have not signed up to do and wouldn’t sign up to do—and now looking at the service they are performing and saying that maybe they’re not fit to serve—hearing that come from somebody who was never willing to take that oath is very rich. And as a veteran myself, very offensive, because these are patriots. These are people who are willing to sacrifice something on behalf of this country with one simple ask: that the country does not forget that, does not forget the service they did, and does not forget their family members. That was our one ask. And that is not being honored right now with this administration.

Magaziner: Nobody else can seem to figure out why we’re in this stupid war, so I guess that’s as plausible a reason as any. We’re weeks in, Americans have died, gas prices are going through the roof, and the president still can’t tell us why we’re in this war, what the goal is, or how we’re going to get out of it. So their guess is as good as mine.

AOC: The Republican Party’s brand is fear. And they have to constantly churn out what they want people to be afraid of—to be afraid of socialists, to be afraid of immigrants, to be afraid of women. They constantly want Americans in fear of somebody because, if you are not afraid of someone who is your neighbor, you’re going to realize who’s actually pickpocketing you. And that is the large corporations that are engaged in profiteering and jacking up your prices for no good reason. It’s going to be this administration that is engaged in record levels of swindling, theft, tariffs, and attacks on your housing. And so this is kind of their new thing of the day. But I think that people are feared out. I think everyone’s nerves are shot from constantly being taught and told what country, person, or community to be afraid of. And they just want a solution. They want their groceries to be more affordable. They want to figure out how we’re going to get health care. They want our housing to get under control. And I think that we’re ready for an affirmative vision, and we’re ready for an affirmative agenda.
