Crackdown on Chaos: Pune Traffic Police Get Tough Pune’s roads are under strict watch as the Traffic Police unleash an intensified crackdown on rule breakers. With more than 5,000 motorists penalised daily, the message is unmistakable — traffic violations won’t be tolerated. From signal jumping, double parking, riding on footpaths, helmetless or triple-seat riding, wrong-side driving, seatbelt violations, to blocking traffic, offenders are facing on-the-spot action. A Pune Mirror team witnessed the drive at Nagar Road, where even a rider using a mobile phone while driving was immediately fined. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Himmat Jadhav said these periodic drives aim to curb habitual offenders and promote safer, more responsible driving behaviour. With heightened vigilance and rising penalties, Pune is making it clear: obey the rules — or pay for breaking them.

For 30 seconds. 🚨 Dashcam footage from Dwarka Expressway, Gurugram Aug 18, 3:01 PM shows a red Honda Amaze heading the wrong way on the elevated, access-controlled stretch no escape route, concrete barriers on both sides. It stops dead in the fast lane, forcing dashcam vehicle to swerve sharply to avoid collision. No crash this time. While this was earlier limited to neighbourhoods and outer areas, lax enforcement has emboldened errant drivers of two wheelers and cars to break all boundaries. Pune has a chronic behavioral problem of driving on the wrong side of the road. I got time to edit the video to my daily route today. In this 3 min video you will see gig works, women, school vans, dumpsters, auto mafias, cyclists, bikers, almost every niche driving on the wrong side. No fear whatsoever. You will see me honking as well to grab their attention because car owners like me will be blamed first if something happens. And with ADAS level 2 it is more riskier because car can sudden brake anytime and the vehicle behind me will cause more damage. We need a revolution for this. Maybe they are driving on wrong side due to long u turns? or to save some fuel or to save time or out of habit or maybe because all of it but no one is there to keep a check on them. No cameras no police no volunteers nothing. And this is non traffic hours. You can imagine 6-8pm traffic with high beams on the wrong side on a state highway.

A Daily Gamble With Speeding Traffic. Pedestrians Risk Lives on Nagar Road Crossing Nagar Road has turned into a perilous ordeal for pedestrians. With the traffic department barricading major intersections across the city including the busy stretch near Phoenix Marketcity vehicles are now forced to move ahead and take distant U-turns. But at these U-turn points, the absence of speed breakers, traffic signals, and zebra crossings has created a dangerous situation. Pedestrians attempting to cross are left battling a stream of fast-moving vehicles, each step a risk to life and limb. Adding to the chaos, several vehicles drive the wrong way from the Phoenix Marketcity side to reach the U-turn sooner, blatantly moving against the traffic flow. This is Gurugram - the same city where groundwater is nearly exhausted and drinking water has to be brought in from outside, through canals or bottled water. And look at the state of the city today. Kilometres-long traffic jams. Roads flooded. Rainwater has nowhere to go, and citizens are left stranded for hours. What kind of administration is this? Is this how a city is supposed to be governed? Or has governance simply become a business of extracting money from citizens while providing nothing in return? Gurugram is projected as a world-class city, but every heavy rainfall exposes the complete failure of urban planning and administration.

This is from my visit to Nagaland for a Road safety session before HornBill festival in Nov 2024. Traffic jam in a remote section on the hills. Not a single policeman within miles… No road markings, potholes, bad roads, But Nobody crossing to wrong side. This is also India and they are also Indians. Why we on the plains are always finding excuses to break the rules. If you are a good person, you follow the rules, whether the cops are watching or not, that’s it. Dear Parvesh Sahib Singh Sir, I want to bring your attention to a serious issue. This is the underpass near Dilshad Garden Metro Station, on the Delhi-UP border. The condition of the Anand Vihar → Seemapuri side is clearly visible in the video. The pavement has completely deteriorated, due to which traffic is also not moving smoothly. The other part of this side is comparatively better, but the pavement there has also started deteriorating. The Seemapuri → Anand Vihar side also has damaged pavement, although traffic is still able to pass through smoothly. Sir, I request you to please take this matter seriously and, if possible, visit the site to see the condition yourself. This underpass needs proper and complete repair rather than a temporary fix. It is deeply concerning and unfortunate that most bodaboda riders operating within Nairobi CBD have developed the habit of riding on the wrong side of the road, putting their own lives, their passengers, and other road users at serious risk. This is the disturbing situation I personally witnessed this evening while on the ground verifying complaints about alleged harassment and illegal arrests by the county inspectorate team. From my spot checks, the reality was clear many riders are deliberately violating traffic rules. Within a short time, we recorded 348 bodabodas using the wrong side of the road. Out of these, 253 were stopped, turned away, and advised to immediately return to the correct lane, while several others fled upon noticing enforcement officers. Moving forward, enforcement will now be strict and uncompromising. Any bodaboda found breaking traffic rules especially riding on the wrong side will face immediate arrest of BOTH the rider and the passenger, and the motorbike will be impounded. Arresting the passenger is intentional because they enable this lawlessness by accepting unsafe rides. This measure will send a strong message and encourage passengers to demand compliance with traffic rules. Through shared responsibility, we can promote self-regulation, reduce accidents, restore order on our roads, and improve safety within the city. Road safety is not optional. We must all take responsibility.
