In continuation of the clean-up enforcement operations and it’s commitment to rid the State of criminal elements and street urchins popularly known as Omotaku, who terrorise Lagos motorists and force them to part with their hard-earned money, the Lagos State Taskforce have arrested a total of 281 suspects across the state. The areas covered during the week-long operations included Lekki Phase 1, Ikoyi, Lekki–Ajah Expressway, Bourdillon, Animashahun busstop, Akowonjo road, Egbeda, Fadeyi busstop, Costain, Funsho Williams Avenue, Victoria Island, Apongbon, Jibowu, Yaba Phase 1, Lagos Island Palmgrove, Ojuelegba road ,Surulere and other adjoining roads on both Island and Mainland where the presence of undesirable elements popularly known as Omotaku and other street urchins was observed. All suspects have since been arraigned in court. Yesterday, two separate incidents involving suspected “Omotaku” touts were recorded at different locations across the State. At Marwa Bus Stop in Lekki, a truck driver whose vehicle had broken down was confronted and threatened by individuals who demanded his phone and money. Similarly, another incident occurred at Palmgrove along Ikorodu Road, where suspected touts attempted to harass road users. In both instances, operatives of the Lagos State Taskforce swiftly intervened and apprehended the suspects. They will be processed in accordance with the law. We remain committed to keeping our roads safe, protecting motorists, and eliminating all forms of harassment and intimidation across Lagos. Akerele revealed in the last one week, from Thursday through the weekend up to press time today, Wednesday, 14th January, 2026, the Agency has effected arrest of several Omotaku during its sustained enforcement. The areas covered during the week-long operations included Bourdillon, Lekki Phase 1, Ikoyi, Lekki–Ajah Expressway, Animashahun busstop, Akowonjo road, Egbeda, Fadeyi busstop, Costain, Funsho Williams Avenue, Victoria Island, Apongbon, Jibowu, Yaba Phase 1, Lagos Island Palmgrove, Ojuelegba road ,Surulere and other adjoining roads on both Island and Mainland where the presence of undesirable elements popularly known as Omotaku and other street urchins was observed. PROJECT UPDATE: Adeniji Adele Drainage Construction The Lagos State Ministry of Environment and Water Resources is reconstructing the entire drainage network around Adeniji Adele. The State Government realized that a greater part of the old channel has failed and sunk well below the tidal height which was the reason for the constant flooding usually experienced even without the rains. The project is in two folds: 1. Construction of a sump and installation of pumping station that has the capacity of 3000 cubic meter per hr. 2. ADENIJI ADELE DRAINAGE CONSTRUCTION I captured these videos today, The Lagos State Ministry of Environment and Water Resources led by Tokunbo Wahab is reconstructing the entire drainage network around Adeniji Adele. The State Government realized that a greater part of the old channel has failed and sunk well below the tidal height which was the reason for the constant flooding usually experienced even without the rains. The project is in two folds: 1. Construction of a sump and installation of pumping station that has the capacity of 3000 cubic meter per hr. 2. Reconstruction of the defective primary channels 3. ⁠The project is to manage the stormwater and ensure that Ojo Giwa, Binuyo, Oroyinyin axis in Lagos Island are flood free. #LagosDrainage #GreaterLagosRising Babajide Sanwo-Olu
