I still remember/regret the time I asked for a lock on my bedroom door. my parents didn't knock, so I got very sensitive to the change in the sound of the TV when they opened the door and entered my room. I still get on edge sitting with my back to a door.

lmao also me, when I first started dating my wife she would remark on how it was weird that I always reflexively locked the bathroom door because "it's not like someone is gonna burst in" but the total lack of any respect for privacy I had growing up conditioned me

This is so fucked up. I can't wait until my daughter is old enough to have *even more* privacy from me and my wife (like at the doctor). I knock on her door and never barge in. I always ask through the door if I can look in, and I respect that if she says no.

@hhooven4 that's good, this is what you're supposed to do - It will help your daughter's development in the long run and you will probably have a better relationship with her than parents who do unhinged shit like this

Privacy is not a privilege. It's a right. I'm sick of y'all acting like this with y'all kids and wondering why they hate y'all later.

man ppl who post gleeful tiktoks about punishing their kids are the worst

"privacy is a privilege here" YIKES

My aunt adopted my cousin Kayla when she was 9. I remember her door this exact thing when Kayla was about 15 - removed her door even though there were 3 grown men also living in the house. I was appalled. Kayla is an adult and doesn't speak to my aunt AT ALL now, as I predicted

“Why don’t my children talk to me? 😞” This is why. When we put you guys in nursing homes, don’t ask for the reason when you know the reason.

Besides her filming this, what’s wrong with her form of punishment

ok well I'm a psychologist irl so I could talk about this all day but the short version is treating privacy as a privilege and denying it is bad for children's development - here is an article referencing it but it is a heavily researched topic:
