I still remember/regret the time I asked for a lock on my bedroom door. my parents didn't knock, so I got very sensitive to the change in the sound of the TV when they opened the door and entered my room. I still get on edge sitting with my back to a door.

This is so fucked up. I can't wait until my daughter is old enough to have *even more* privacy from me and my wife (like at the doctor). I knock on her door and never barge in. I always ask through the door if I can look in, and I respect that if she says no.
