"And for a left-handed movie, that wasn't so bad, all right? So if that's the worst I ever get, I'm good. But I do think one of those out-of-touch, old, limp, flaccid-d*ck movies costs you three good movies as far as your rating is concerned." Tarantino came up with the idea for Death Proof (2007) during a drunken hotel night with Sean Penn, saying he wanted a safe car because he “didn’t want to die in some auto accident.” Penn replied a stunt team could “death proof” any car for $10,000 or $15,000. The phrase stuck with Tarantino and became the film’s title.
