Deeply surprised basically nobody covered this. Hark already has hardware in the lab, and Brett Adcock describes it as “sci-fi movie hardware.” They’re building the hardware alongside a much more ‘multimodal’ version of Hark, with computer use improving ‘month over month’ and browser + iPhone + Android access coming... next. One thing I really like about listening to Brett talk about AI is that it feels like a breath of fresh air. He doesn’t get lost in MCP, agent frameworks, tokenomics, BS. He basically just tells you what AGI should feel like in the real world, and even if some of that is obviously “fundraising speak,” I think he’s right. Current models are optimized for text and coding, but they still feel stale in day to day use. Voice is getting better, computer use is getting better, and OpenAI is clearly moving in the right direction, but I still don’t get that deeply expressive, AGI - esque feeling I expected. Anthropic gets closer because Claude can feel unusually intelligent and expressive, although sometimes even that feels like a model heavily reward hacked to sound personal rather than some deeply abundant intelligence, - more like a homunculus that’s distilled from a human brain consider considering AI NN’s are still nothing compared to ours. Brett’s framing was basically “The models need to get a lot more multimodal. They need to get a lot more expressive.” He also said “the text and coding is just not enough for us to really have a real AGI feeling with AI,” and then on the hardware portion he said “We actually have hardware in the lab now… it’s crazy shit. Gabbit Robotics co-founder Nicole Mattero on why the next AI winners won't fight over your screen, they'll fight to get closer to you: She kicks things off with what she admits is a hot take: "My hot take is that hardware is the only moat going forward because anyone's going to be able to spin up a model and make it really good and really cheap." Her logic is simple. Once a strong model is cheap and easy for anyone to build, the model alone can't set you apart. So what actually protects you? "Where does that leave you? Basically companies that have tactile modes such as hardware are the only ones that actually survive." Hardware, though, is only one piece of her argument. The second piece is data: "The models that win in the long run are the ones where private data is their [moat]." From there, Mattero ties the two together. Hardware gives a company one moat. The ability to gather unique personal data gives it another. Put both in place and the edge starts to multiply: "When you have a company that has hardware as a [moat], but then B is able to collect really unique personal data, that also becomes a [moat]." And that, she says, is the reason so many foundation model companies are reaching beyond the screen and into the physical world: "That's why I think a lot of these foundation models are like, let's get something in the home or on the person. Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, on why the iPhone, the greatest consumer device ever made, is the wrong hardware for the AI era: Sam argues the iPhone's basic design wasn't made for a world where AI needs to live alongside your entire life. "I think the iPhone is currently the greatest piece of consumer hardware ever made by a lot. Like, incredible what that has done." The iPhone was designed for a pre-AI world. Sam Altman explains: "It was not meant for a world where you needed a piece of hardware that could absorb all of the context of your life. You know, you can use the phone, you can stop using the phone, you can put it in your pocket, but it's kind of like on or off." That binary, on or off, in use or in your pocket, is the core mismatch. A device that flips between active and dormant can't continuously absorb the context that a personal AGI would need to actually be useful to you. Things will get weirder…and weirder… and then one day, we will just not be in control anymore. “There won't be a fight. There won't be a war. It won't be dramatic. It will just be that one day the machines are in control, and not us.” “The way I expect [AI take over] to feel is like, if you play chess against a grandmaster, it doesn’t feel like you're having a heroic battle against the Terminator…. it doesn’t feel like you're having this incredible back and forth, and then you lose... No, it feels more like you THINK you're playing well, you think everything is okay, and then suddenly… you lose… in one move, and you don't know why. This is what it feels like to play chess against a grandmaster, and this is what it's going to feel like for humanity to play against AGI. It won’t be some dramatic battle where the Terminators rise up and try to destroy humanity. No, it will be… things get more and more confusing. [Editor's note: Like Sam Altman, out of nowhere, raising up to 10% of world GDP?] More and more jobs get automated faster and faster... More and more technology gets built, which no one even quite knows how the technology works... There will be mass media movements that don't really make any sense... Like, do we really know the truth of what's going on in the world right now, even now with social media? Do you or I really know what's going on? How much of this is fake? How much of it is generated with AI or other methods? We don't know. And this will get much worse.” Imagine if you have extremely intelligent systems, much smarter than humans, that can generate any image, any video, anything, trying to manipulate you well...and being able to develop new technologies to interfere with politics.”

For me, the most fascinating part of the conversation was getting to ask HT what got him to change his mind on Anthropic and what its economic case is. In his 2024 convo with Patrick OShaughnessy, Hemant Taneja said they weren't really in the frontier lab investing game: "I think there's a lot of focus today on building the AI models and sort of chasing AGI. That place is very hard for us to invest because I feel like every round is a venture around. Even if you have some short-term revenue because as technologies get commoditized, you're just not going to be able to capture that much value, so you don't get a return on your investment on building the model, but people keep funding because it's the race to AGI where the price is so large. And then whoever gets there maybe if there is AGI that we had would be this multitrillion-dollar company and none of the rest of the stuff matters. We're not really in that game." GC began investing in Anthropic in the March 2025 Series E, and have since made it their largest investment. I asked what changed, then I asked: "What's the economic case for an Anthropic?" HT: "This is a very hard question to answer, and I can tell it's also a very hard question for Dario to answer." He thinks it probably requires being more than a platform, and competing with their customers for their profit pools in various verticals. But then that leaves a lot of opportunity for OpenAI and others to counter-position. Probably the most important question in all of business today, fun to get HT's perspective from the inside.

I think SpaceX is a collection of some of the very best humans on Earth, both in capability and morality and goodness, and I think we want to have an AI that is born of that capability and that morality and that goodness. I think that’s very, very important. So I’d like to encourage people to help out, actually, with the AI hardware on the ground and the AI software and, of course, with the AI satellites. Solar is going to be a very important part of that. The TerraFab will be a very important part of that, but we must also succeed on the software front, and we’re going to be training Grok on the sum total of all SpaceX information. So in a way, it will be trained on you. You will effectively be the parents of the AI. It will inherit your thoughts and ideas and beliefs, and I think that’s a good thing. So, yeah, we’ve got to win here on the AI hardware and the AI software. That maybe is the most important message. I think that is actually the most important message I wanted to convey today is that we must win on AI because the future is overwhelmingly AI and robots. So we won’t ultimately be able to control the AI. It’ll be too smart for that. But just like if you have a child that is a super genius child, you can still instill in that child the values and beliefs that you think are good and right. And so that’s why it’s incredibly important that we succeed with Grok. So, yeah, well, Grok 4.5 you’ve tried probably. We’ve got 4.6 coming out in about a week. Inspired talking about Skewmond and" the best jungler in the west" debate Q: Everyone was talking a lot of Skewmond, and I would like to know about: do you believe like the series put an end to any debate about the best jungler in the West? Inspired: To me, there was never a debate. I knew that I’m always the best, but I think Skewmond is a good player. I wouldn’t say that he had any phenomenal series, though, this tournament. I think he, against T1, he still made a lot of mistakes. When he was stronger, he didn’t really try to fight enemies, and or sometimes just over committed a bit, and I think G2 won against T1 just by waiting for T1 to make mistakes. I think today, I think Skewmond played well in the team fights. I think every time he was on my screen and we’re like skirmishing and team fighting, I think he did a good job. But I think just like team wise, and like how they all played together as a team and use their jungler was wrong. And it’s hard to say, as I always said, that don’t really know who’s there like which jungler is good because you don’t really know what was his idea beyond the game plan, what his teammates wanted to do. But it just seems like they were not connected well enough, and on top of that, as I said, I think the drafts were not that great. So yeah, I think he’s a good player, but I think they need to work more on team synergy in order to actually pressure when they’re strong if they want to be like the best in the world, because I think they definitely can, but need to work a bit more. "They were training neural nets before there was TensorFlow, before there was GPUs. They did it on CPUs, and they had some of the first neural network technology deployed in a consumer product." There's a very small YouTube channel that uses stock footage and narration, where the voice seems to be AI trained on my voice. I was told about it from one of my viewers that said when he started watching this channel he realized it was my voice, but with AI. It for sure doesn't sound perfect, and it still has that "AI" sound to it, but this stuff is going to get a lot more convincing really soon. There's not really any tools to deal with this currently, as there's no reporting system, and it's not an exact copy because the narration is different. But I feel like this may become a much bigger problem for YouTube in the future. They are going to have to adapt their copyright system to include AI voice and video copies of people under impersonation.

ELON MUSK: The future is fundamentally AI and Robots. “Our AI revenue will exceed all other SpaceX revenue probably in September, like next month, and will significantly exceed all other SpaceX revenue in the fourth quarter. So, AI has become an extremely important part of SpaceX’s future. I think it’s actually vital that we succeed in AI, not just in hardware, but also in software. So, yeah, the future is fundamentally AI and robots. Assuming civilization continues to progress, I think that AI will probably, the amount of digital intelligence will probably be more than a trillion times the amount of biological intelligence. So, not sort of equal to human intelligence, but probably a trillion times higher. I’d say a billion times higher than the amount of artificial intelligence that we have today. I’d say a billion times is an easy prediction, and probably a trillion. So, as you harness more and more of the sun’s energy, the ability to turn that into intelligence is fundamentally a digital computer thing, because it’s pretty hard for humans to go live in deep space without any support. I mean, some of the math is interesting to think about, which is that if you increased civilizational energy usage, the amount of energy that we have harnessed as a civilization by a factor of a million, you would still be using much less than one millionth of the sun’s energy. Now, most of this is in deep space, obviously, but the future is very much AI, very much, and I suppose it was always going to be that way. But it’s important that we have an AI that cares about humanity, that fosters humanity and helps take us to other planets and other star systems, and this is why I think it’s essential that SpaceX succeed, not just with AI hardware, but also with AI software.”

The smartest man in AI just exposed the whole AGI narrative as a LIE. And he used a physics problem from 1905 to prove it. His name is Demis Hassabis. He runs Google DeepMind, and won the Nobel Prize for using AI to crack a problem in biology that had stumped scientists for 50 years. Almost nobody in this industry has a track record like his. He went on the NothingButTech podcast and called out the biggest lie in AI right now: Right now the loudest voices in AI are telling you that AGI is basically here. OpenAI has literally defined AGI as a system that can outperform humans at most "economically valuable work." In other words, if it replaces enough jobs, we have arrived. Hassabis thinks that bar is a joke. He said real general intelligence has to do what the human brain can do, because the brain is the only proof we have that this kind of intelligence is even possible. He called that "a higher bar than just being able to do some useful economic work," which is about as close as a polite British Nobel laureate gets to calling his rivals out. Then he gave the actual test: Today's AI has read everything humans have ever written, including the theory of relativity. So when it explains relativity back to you, it's repeating an answer that already exists. That's not intelligence. So Hassabis proposed a test that makes memorization impossible. Train an AI on only what humanity knew in 1901, four years BEFORE Einstein published relativity. Then ask it to come up with relativity on its own. It can't look up the answer, because in 1901 the answer doesn't exist yet. The only way to pass is to do what Einstein actually did: Take the same physics everyone else had and reason its way to an idea no human had ever had. Hassabis says not a single AI today can, no matter how much it has memorized. Which means what we keep calling "almost AGI" is really just the best librarian in history. It can find any answer that already exists but it cannot create one that doesn't. His second version is even sharper: AlphaGo, the system his own team built, famously invented a brand new move that no human had played in 2,000 years of the game. Everyone called it genius but Hassabis says that still is not the bar. The real test is not whether an AI can invent a new move inside Go, it is whether an AI could INVENT a game as deep and as beautiful as Go in the first place. No model that exists today can do it. The people telling you AGI has already arrived are the same people raising hundreds of billions of dollars on that exact promise. The valuations only work if the finish line is right in front of us. So the finish line keeps getting dragged closer, and AGI keeps getting quietly redefined down to "does useful work," until the products they already sell happen to qualify. Hassabis has nothing to prove and nothing to sell you. He already won the Nobel, and he is telling you the machines still cannot do the one thing that would make them genuinely intelligent, which is have a truly original idea. To be fair to him, he is not a pessimist about it. He believes real AGI IS coming, and he is spending his life building it. He just refuses to pretend it is already sitting in your phone. So the next time a founder tells you AGI is months away, remember that the one man in the room with a Nobel Prize built his test around Einstein, and admitted that nothing we have made can pass it. Athena talked to us about her rivalry with Asuka and said she would like to have one more match with her. “Oh, man. Like Asuka is one of those people, that’s a forever rival for me. Like when we were back on the indies, we actually ended up wrestling at Shimmer Women’s Wrestling. That’s where we met. We had one of the hardest hitting matches I think I’ve had in my career then, and then fast forward to WWE NXT for the NXT Women’s Championship. Asuka is my yin to my yang. I really hope she’s not stepping away. I’ve actually been trying to get a hold of her because I lost a whole bunch of people’s numbers when I switched my phone and everything. But man, talk about someone who’s just the epitome of what legendary status is or what a living legend is. I, to some extent, don’t feel like people really understand how much she’s done for wrestling as a whole. Like from grinding on the indies to being like an independent contractor in Japan to getting signed to WWE. Not only that, like just excelling in WWE in every form and facet from match to match, but never changing who she was as a person, a character. I couldn’t be more proud, more happy for her. I hate her in that same breath, of course. I also feel like I have to have one more match eventually and hope that this isn’t it. This isn’t the long goodbye, if you will.
