If the US is willing to seize oil tankers and threaten military action to protect its own interests, then what exactly do people think “America First” means for Britain? It means Britain Last. The lesson is obvious: We cannot rely on a superpower that treats allies as disposable and sees global instability as leverage. The only way the UK protects its economy, security and sovereignty is by rejoining our own continent’s economic and political system - the EU. Europe will always defend Europe. The US will always defend the US. It’s time we understood the difference.

Putin declared that Russia will lose its sovereignty unless it creates AI based on russian culture, history, linguistic wealth, traditions, and traditional values. Russian officials love scaring their populace with the loss of sovereignty using it as a pretext for all kinds of political decisions. Interestingly enough some Russians understand that it's a hoax. Former politician Nikolai Travkin writes the following: “As soon as any discontent begins to emerge among the people due to worsening living conditions, the authorities immediately cry out: “The West is encroaching on our sovereignty!” They’ve used the word so often, in and out of context, that it’s become so worn out that the question “What benefit does this sovereignty bring me, an ordinary person?” never arises. However, let’s look at North Korea—it’s a sovereign country too. But what good does that do for the people living there? Or take the Central African Republic, which was also sovereign, yet its president Jean-Bedel Bokassa literally ate his own subjects. The authorities explain that sovereignty is necessary to realize the national interests of the country! In the commonly accepted sense, a country’s national interest is the collective interest of its citizens. This includes a simple set of desires: to live without upheavals; to have good healthcare; to educate their children; to see the development of arts and sciences; to have decent jobs and salaries; to have places for cultural leisure; to live in a clean and well-maintained environment, and so on. And, of course, to have personal freedom and security ensured. In that case, the role of sovereignty becomes clear.
