Déjà vu. Dad and me getting bitten by the same species of snake (carpet python) decades apart. I found this python on the side of a road, but as you can see, sometimes snake rescues don’t quite go to plan 😂

Pythons are the largest snakes found in Africa. The ones found here in Zimbabwe are the Southern African Rock pythons. They are large snakes with the potential to reach 5.5 meters in length. They are the only species of snake protected by law in Zimbabwe. KiIIing one can result in a jail sentence and a fine. When you encounter a python, treat it with respect because, aside from the legal consequences, a large python can inflict serious injuri€s that may require hospital treatment. They bite only in self-defense and have multiple rows of super-sharp, curved teeth that can cut the skin like a knif€ and cause serious bIeeding. They are capable of cutting arteries and nerves. Pythons just want to be left alone. There are no documented cases of pythons kiIIing and eating people in Zimbabwe, but there are documented cases of people receiving serious injuries from python bites. The reigning champ, Taylor Stanberry, is already back in action and getting some well-deserved spotlight from Flamingo Magazine. I’m not saying she’s doing God’s work by getting rid of these danger noodles… but I’m also not saying it. 😂 Who else is low-key rooting for the snake hunters this year?!

Imagine my surprise at finding this stunning White-bellied rat snake (Ptyas fusca) along the main road in urban Singapore. This was over 2 meters of snake. It was on the footpath when I found it. It slithered into an ornamental hedge and coiled.
