The last time I checked the constitution. I saw the work of the MPs is legislation, oversight and representation. Was it changed ama. Remember this was one of the Gen zs demand, that you consolidate all the bursaries to one fund and make education free. Bado tuko rada

My view is that Members of Parliament are meant to legislate, not implement. The Constituency Development Fund (CDF) has diverted a large number of MPs from these fundamental duties by shifting their focus to constructing roads, hospitals, and other development projects which are used to try and win over voters. The original CDF Act was declared unconstitutional in 2015 for breaching the separation of powers, leading to the revised NG-CDF Act. However, debates continue on whether MPs should be handling these funds at all. The 2022 High Court ruling further questioned the legitimacy of MPs managing these funds, so we await the Supreme Court ruling on the NG-CDF Act this afternoon. Shouldn’t we be moving away from CDF and instead channelling those funds to systemic solutions like free education for all that would eliminate the need for temporary bursaries and provide lasting benefits for every Kenyan child?
