Police in uniform barged into our office and started pushing staff, heckling them, assaulting them and threatening them. Is this Democracy? Is this good governance? What Kolkata Police did today is deeply disturbing. The use of State machinery raises serious questions about legality, due process and abuse of power. If the police are being used at the behest of the BJP West Bengal government to target political opponents, the courts must intervene. Democracy cannot survive when State power becomes an instrument of political intimidation.

We,the AAP ,our National Convener Shri Arvind Kejriwal ji and our Hon’ble Chief Minister of Punjab Bhagwant Mann ji unequivocally support Women’s Reservation in letter and spirit. We want it implemented properly,not as a political gimmick, but as genuine empowerment of our mothers and sisters. However,we vehemently oppose this draconian Delimitation Constitutional Amendment Bill. It is nothing but a deadly Trojan horse , a calculated assault on India’s federal democracy itself. This exercise will redraw the entire political map of the nation. States like Punjab, which have responsibly controlled population growth and fulfilled their national duty, are now being punished with unfair representation. This is not justice. This is pure electoral gerrymandering dressed up as reform. Worse still, the new Bill hands over dictatorial powers to a handpicked Delimitation Commission,and shockingly, no court in the land can challenge its orders. We will not stay silent while the soul of cooperative federalism is attacked.

A recommendation I intend to submit to the Honorable Prime Minister. We should proceed with the delimitation exercise based on absolute population figures, utilizing a fixed benchmark such as 7,00,000 or 10,00,000 citizens per constituency. While this ensures that states with larger populations receive a significantly higher number of seats in the Lower House, that would not matter if we simultaneously empower the Rajya Sabha with Senate-like authorities to maintain federal equilibrium. Under this proposed system, equal and fixed representation in the Rajya Sabha would be granted to every state, regardless of size. Currently, representation is skewed; for instance, Uttar Pradesh holds 31 seats while Sikkim holds only one. By transitioning to a model where every state is allotted a fixed number of representatives (such as three or five), we ensure that every state’s vote carries the same weight. This reform would safeguard the interests of all states, granting each the legislative power to block bills detrimental to their specific regions and more effectively champion the cause of their people."

Mid 2025 population estimates compared to the 2020 census show the biggest gains in Texas Florida North Carolina Georgia and Arizona. Meanwhile the largest domestic outmigration is from California New York Illinois New Jersey and yes right here in Massachusetts. House seats are apportioned by population. If trends hold for 2030 the slower growth states including Massachusetts could lose 7 House seats while the fastest growing gain 7. That flows to the Electoral College. Using mid 2025 estimates one side's path to the White House drops to just 263 electoral votes short of the 270 needed. This is not just about red states and blue states. It is about why families and businesses are leaving: cost of living taxes housing affordability energy prices regulations. Massachusetts is a beautiful state. But if we keep losing people, we must ask serious questions about competitiveness and affordability. Population is more than a statistic. It is representation influence and our future in Congress and the Electoral College. It is no wonder why the Democrats fight so hard to keep those who do not belong here.

I put these questions to the minister - why should my constituents continue to pay full council tax, when their democratic right is being stripped from them in May? Remember, no taxation without representation. What should we call these unelected 'councillors'? In my view, they cease to be elected once polling day has passed... These questions were not welcomed in Parliament. I was told to be careful with my use of 'language'. I am utterly sick of this policing of fair debate. Elections are being cancelled. My constituents are furious. I will raise those concerns in Parliament. Democracy is expensive. Democracy is inconvenient. Democracy is awkward. If we're worried about cost, why bother with elections at all? Voting MUST go ahead, even if those in power won't like the outcome.

The moment the results were declared, Bengal’s business community has been feeling absolutely delighted. Among them, the biggest industrialist Sanjiv Goenka must have been the happiest. Over the years, he has been seen as a vocal supporter of BJP and Narendra Modi, a stance that, in a politically charged environment, has inevitably drawn scrutiny. Especially from the TMC! In India’s federal structure, businesses often have to navigate complex relationships with state governments, regardless of political alignment. For large conglomerates operating across sectors, maintaining this balance is less a choice and more a necessity, unfortunately. What often gets overlooked in the narrative, however, is the sheer scale of the RP-Sanjiv Goenka Group’s investments outside West Bengal, in NDA rules states. The group currently has a project pipeline of nearly ₹72,000 crore under implementation across states like Odisha, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Gujarat, and Andhra Pradesh, aligned with India’s renewable energy ambitions. Which raises an important question: why is Goenka still largely perceived as a “Bengal-only” industrialist? West Bengal has, for decades, grappled with the challenge of attracting large-scale industrial investment. The widely discussed Singur Tata Nano controversy involving Tata Motors became emblematic of these concerns, shaping investor sentiment for years. Since then, perceptions around ease of doing business in the state have remained a topic of debate. I’m sure Goenka, along with many industrialists, must be breathing a sigh of relief now that the BJP is in power in the state. The years of extortion money taken from them as part of 'electoral bonds' will finally end and we will finally get to see the golden phase of West Bengal.

This is my personal opinion. For me, this has never been about BJP, Congress, or any political party. If any party were in power today, I would be asking the same questions. I don’t support anyone blindly. I support what’s right, and I question what’s wrong. The lives of ordinary people, our youth, and the reality on the ground matter far more to me than political narratives. If a government does good work, I’ll appreciate it. If it fails its people, I’ll speak up. It doesn’t matter which party it is. What hurts the most is watching innocent people suffer because of someone else’s mistakes, while those in positions of power continue without accountability or even a simple apology. Listening to citizens should be the first duty of those in power—not the last resort. It genuinely breaks my heart to see young people and ordinary citizens facing violence while thousands are out on the streets, asking to be heard. Peaceful voices deserve to be heard. Accountability should never depend on which party is in power. Don’t support any party blindly. Support the truth. Support justice.
