DELTA STATE POLICE COMMAND PRESS RELEASE POLICE ARREST POPULAR CONTENT CREATOR ( POPULARLY KNOWN AS ODOGWU OF ASABA) OVER ALLEGED RAPE OF 20-YEAR-OLD WOMAN The Delta State Police Command has arrested Ifeanyi Ogbonna, male, aged 40, also populary known as “Odogwu of Asaba,” in connection with the alleged rape... of a 20-year-old woman, who later died. The arrest followed a petition received by the Command alleging that on 1 June 2026, the deceased travelled to Asaba at the invitation of the suspect, who had offered to train her in content creation, a programme he reportedly promoted through his social media platform. Upon her arrival in Asaba, the suspect allegedly took her to a hotel, where he allegedly raped her and subjected her to physical violence. She later returned home visibly distressed and disclosed the incident to her parents. In the aftermath of the alleged assault, the deceased made a video recording in which she recounted her experience and the emotional distress she suffered following the incident. She subsequently commited suicide by ingesting a toxic substance and later died despite efforts to save her life. Upon receipt of the petition, the Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, psc, acipm, mnips, directed the Area Command Effurun to carry out an immediate and thorough investigation into the allegations. Acting on the directive, operatives of the Command swiftly commenced investigation, leading to the arrest of Ifeanyi Ogbonna, also known as “Odogwu of Asaba.” During preliminary investigation, the suspect reportedly made useful statements to the Police, while further investigation is ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the case. Man arrested for setting wife on fire in Kogi The Kogi State Police Command has arrested one Jacob Irewa for allegedly setting his wife, Berida Irawo, on fire. The incident happened on Friday, August 14, 2026 at Oworo Estate, Felele, Lokoja. The incident is said to have occurred on 02 April 2026, at the Volksrust Police Station. It is worth noting that in light of the serious allegation, the SAPS has instituted an internal investigation to thoroughly examine the circumstances surrounding the incident. In addition to the internal investigation, a criminal investigation is also underway to ensure all aspects of this matter are addressed transparently. Operatives of the Lagos State Police Command, through the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti, acting on the directive of the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Tijani Fatai, psc, mnips dismantled a criminal syndicate involved in conspiracy, obtaining goods under false pretence, fraudulent conversion, stealing, and the issuance of dud cheques. The breakthrough followed investigations into three separate cases, which revealed a coordinated syndicate that fraudulently obtained exotic vehicles from dealers using false representations and dud or post-dated cheques before disposing of the vehicles for personal gain. The investigation led to the arrest of key suspects, while other members of the syndicate remain at large. Through intelligence-led operations and the AUTOREG Vehicle Tracking Platform, detectives recovered Toyota Highlander (2017 Model), Toyota Highlander (2007 Model), Toyota RAV4 (2010 Model), two (2) Toyota Hiace Buses (2016 Model), one Toyota Hiace Bus (2020 Model), and one Ford Edge SUV (2018 Model). Efforts are ongoing to arrest the fleeing suspects and recover the remaining vehicles. The suspects will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations. The Lagos State Police Command advises vehicle dealers and business owners to exercise due diligence before releasing vehicles, particularly where payment is made through post-dated cheques or unfamiliar intermediaries. Operatives of the Lagos State Police Command, through the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti, acting on the directive of the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Tijani Fatai, psc, mnips dismantled a criminal syndicate involved in conspiracy, obtaining goods under false pretence, fraudulent conversion, stealing, and the issuance of dud cheques. The breakthrough followed investigations into three separate cases, which revealed a coordinated syndicate that fraudulently obtained exotic vehicles from dealers using false representations and dud or post-dated cheques before disposing of the vehicles for personal gain. The investigation led to the arrest of key suspects, while other members of the syndicate remain at large. Through intelligence-led operations and the AUTOREG Vehicle Tracking Platform, detectives recovered Toyota Highlander (2017 Model), Toyota Highlander (2007 Model), Toyota RAV4 (2010 Model), two (2) Toyota Hiace Buses (2016 Model), one Toyota Hiace Bus (2020 Model), and one Ford Edge SUV (2018 Model). Efforts are ongoing to arrest the fleeing suspects and recover the remaining vehicles. The suspects will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations. The Lagos State Police Command advises vehicle dealers and business owners to exercise due diligence before releasing vehicles, particularly where payment is made through post-dated cheques or unfamiliar intermediaries. The family of a youth who died in a road accident in Pudukkad, Thrissur, has alleged that the incident was a deliberate act rather than a road accident. The victim, identified as Rijas, a native of Pattambi, died on Sunday evening after the motorcycle he was travelling on was involved in a collision. According to his family, Rijas and a friend had an argument with the occupants of the vehicle involved in the crash around 10 minutes before the incident. Rijas' father alleged that the vehicle occupants, who are reportedly from Tamil Nadu, intentionally rammed the motorcycle following the earlier altercation.
