If democracy is weakened in this country, the media will have no meaningful role to play. That is the situation in the country today. All our bank accounts have been frozen. We cannot do our campaign work. We cannot support our workers and candidates. Our leaders cannot travel from one part of the country to the other. We're unable to put out our ads. This is being done two months before the election campaign. This is a criminal action against the Congress party, done by the PM and the Home Minister. It is being orchestrated to cripple us before the elections. There are institutions in the country that are supposed to protect the democratic framework. At the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), alongside committed members of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and patriotic Nigerians, our resolve has only deepened. What began as a call has now become a movement. We are witnessing a deliberate weakening of democratic institutions, an alarming push toward a one-party state, and a judiciary increasingly burdened by decisions that shake public confidence. They rejected the nomination of Meenakshi Natarajan in Madhya Pradesh. Within 30 minutes, we sent a letter to the Election Commission seeking an appointment. We then rushed here directly to submit a memorandum to the Election Commission of India, but they rejected completely. We are responsible leaders of this country and elected representatives of the people. Just now, we received information that one or two leaders may be allowed to submit a memorandum to the office. However, we need a physical hearing before the Election Commission to present and argue our case. This is a clear-cut case of the murder of democracy. If even a small element of democracy remains in this country, the Election Commission must intervene in this matter without any delay. There is no credibility in the examination system in this country. 👉🏻 These people want to make democracy a mockery. If democracy becomes a mockery, the value of journalism will not exist at all. If you are going to stop and silence different voices, then what is the meaning of journalism? 👉 Now, agencies are compromised and weaponized to target opposition parties.
