Do Hakeem Jeffries and other leading Democrats really oppose the U.S.-Israeli war on Iran? Or do they actually support the war and just want Trump to launch it knowing that it’s deeply unpopular? Ryan Grim of Drop Site explains why Democrats don't serve as a meaningful opposition. Watch Rania Khalek Dispatches on BreakThrough News' Youtube.

⭕️ Ryan Grim on Democrats’ cynical political calculations Grim argues that many Democrats quietly support US strikes on Iran and even regime change, but understand a broader war is deeply unpopular. He says that helps explain why party leaders did not advance a War Powers vote before the attack, allowing it to stall until after the strike. Publicly, Democrats demand explanations and warn Trump is acting “recklessly.” Privately, Grim suggests, they see a political win-win: if the war goes badly or leads to U.S. casualties, Trump pays the price. jeremy scahill | Ryan Grim

Democrats have been among the loudest critics of Trump's war on Iran. Libertarian Institute's Kyle Anzalone breaks down why those same lawmakers are now opposing the congressional measures that could help Trump secure a deal and end the conflict. “They're going to stymie Trump's effort to end this conflict... because they support what's best for Israel.” Watch the full interview on Sanchez Effect.

Trump's strikes in Iran represents the end of a 47 year war that cost the lives of more than 1,000 American troops and civilians. Democrats knows this, which is why their only talking point is the War Powers Act, which they ignored for decades. I went on Al Aribya to explain:

The blind support for Trump's war is starting to crack. Even in deep red Alabama, Trump voters are realizing the conflict is a massive disaster that is spiraling out of control. They thought he would handle it, but now they are facing endless war.

Democrats could have run on a populist anti-war platform that has overwhelming public support in the US. They could have explicitly said that if elected, they would make sure not to launch a war on Iran. Instead they said the single greatest threat to the US is Iran, and repeated the same Zionist Trump propaganda to launch the war: "Iran must not be allowed to have nuclear weapons". And now virtually the entire Democratic Party, from Schumer to Jeffries, are fully behind the war, with Bernie Sanders and AOCIA doing their typical performative bullshit to also launder it with their "Netanyahu's war" and zero attempt to actually mass mobilize against it, and only Rashida Tlaib being explicitly opposed to it.

Democrats seem to hate President Trump so much more than they love America that they would root against their own country in the war with Iran... WHY?! We have data to answer this question: The majority of conservatives and Republicans are proud to be Americans. The majority of Democrats are not.

So much about the war on Iran that we've heard from Labor and the war parties is pure doublespeak. They claim to want to save Iran from oppression - but they cheer the bombing of the Iranian people. Australians oppose this war, and we oppose Labor's choice to drag us into it.
