Candy then revealed that he had not slept and was actually drunk. The night before, he had gone to a bar where he encountered Jack Nicholson, who recognized him and proceeded to buy him drinks throughout the night. Candy had told Nicholson, "But I've got to go shoot." Nicholson simply replied, "You're going to be all right, kid. Don't worry about it." Candy then went on to film his scene on the racquetball court, where he was hit by the ball, and managed to get it right in just three takes.
