Desmids are single-celled freshwater algae with remarkable shapes and ornamentations. This species, Micrasterias rotata, is one of the larger ones and mainly lives in acidic bogs, making it rare. This time-lapse shows a Micrasterias undergoing cell division. Desmids belong to the Charophyta division, from which land plants emerged. 🎥 wvanegmond_micro

A look inside the budget of Ireland's Department of Immigration/Integration In this video we will review the contents of a document titled "Ministerial Briefing January 2025" which was published on 31 March 2025, and which details the spend of the Department of Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth (which includes immigration) Some details included below: · the Department has an annual budget of €8.2b, with 25% of this budget being allocated to the International Protection and Ukrainian Divisions. · the Department has 976 full time staff, with 340 full time staff being assigned to the International Protection and Ukrainian Divisions, and with only 67 staff assigned to manage disability – which means that 4 times more staff are assigned to manage people who are not even Irish citizens, than there are to manage Irish citizens with disabilities. · the International Protection Division has far more units within its division than any other unit within the Department of Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth, with somewhere in the region of 13 units within immigration division – noting that this excludes the Ukrainian Division. · there has been a 400% increase in the people seeking international protection in Ireland since 2021. · the Irish Government never allows people with status to be left without accommodation. · under the irish refugee protection programme the Irish Government is sending delegates to other countries, mainly to the Middle East and Africa to search and select people that they feel need international protection. · The Government is currently considering introducing further legislation to allow it convert more property types while bypassing the planning laws that apply to all other residents of the State.

Andy Moore at HHMI | Janelia created this time-lapse video that shows the dynamic structure of the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) within a kidney cell. As you can see, the ER is very densely packed near the nucleus, which is shown in bright orange color at the center of the cell and is less dense towards the edges of the cell. Videos like these can give us a more complete understanding of the structure and function of the ER and this knowledge could be the basis for future research on how protein and lipid production within the cell affect human health and disease. PSNI moved in at the 11th hour. From the comments online Protestants and Catholics were united in their approval of the bonfire (never thought I’d see the day) - this is not acceptable when the goal is division. There has been numerous instances of controversy over the years with what was place on the bonfire but it was never to my mind dismantled - of course not - the goal here was always to fuel division……..people are easier to control and political parties are built on it.

NEW SPECIES DISCOVERED! A new discovered life that is like a rolling version of our gut bacteria biome. And understanding it may help us understand ourselves and how our immune systems really work. Why biotics may be better than antibiotics someday. Although published in a peer-reviewed journal, it hasn’t a name yet. This species has a unique characteristic; every individual has thousands of single-celled prokaryotes living inside its cell, like our gut microbiome. You can see the prokaryotes as tiny rods inside. In the first clip, the organism is in its "dormant" state, with all the prokaryotes being moved around by the cell to distribute nutrients and other resources evenly. In the second clip, you can see it in its active state, swimming around. The prokaryotes are likely methanogenic archaea, producing methane as a byproduct of their metabolism. We have methanogenic archaea in our guts as well, just different ones from these.
