Avianca flight AV9418 evacuated after an aborted takeoff from Pereira Matecana International Airport in Colombia. The Airbus A320, with 168 passengers, was flying from Pereira to Bogotá. However, on departure there was a problem with one of the engines that prevented it from taking off. "According to preliminary information, an A320 aircraft that was starting a flight between Pereira and Bogotá had to suspend takeoff on the runway, apparently due to a failure in one of its engines," the Civil Aeronautics department said.

A Frontier Airlines flight bound for LAX hit a person on the runway during takeoff from Denver International Airport on Friday. The Airbus A321 was taking off from runway 17L when it appeared to strike an individual walking on the runway. The pilot quickly aborted the takeoff. The engine issue on takeoff reportedly sparked a small brush fire along the runway, with airport fire crews responding immediately and remaining on scene as a precaution. Here's an interesting look at the Northrop X-4 Bantam, built in 1948 with no horizontal tail and depended on the wing control surfaces for roll and pitch attitudes. Very similar to the German Me 163. It failed mainly due to lack of a modernized flight control system.😎

In June 1937 at Neuhardenberg, pilot Erich Warsitz (posibly the first jet pilot) ignited the von Braun Liquid Fuel Rocket Engine on his Heinkel He 112 after climbing to altitude and shutting down the Jumo piston engine. Smoke and fire quickly filled the cockpit due to exhaust flowing back into the fuselage. Despite the wheels-up landing and having the fuselage on fire, it proved to official circles that an aircraft could be flown satisfactorily with a back-thrust system through the rear without causing an aircraft to flip or become uncontrollable. It convinced the German Air Ministry (RLM) that rocket-powered flight was feasible, leading directly to the development of the purpose-built Heinkel He 176.

The pilot can be heard calling for an emergency landing. The Boeing 737-800s engine cowling detached and “struck the wing flap” during takeoff. The flight was able to turn around and land safely at Denver International Airport. “Southwest Airlines Flight 3695 returned safely to Denver International Airport around 8:15 a.m. local time on Sunday, April 7, after the pilot reported the engine cowling fell off during takeoff and struck the wing flap. The Boeing 737-800 was towed to the gate. The aircraft was headed to William P. Hobby Airport in Houston. The FAA will investigate,” the FAA said in a statement.

BREAKING: For 10 years the world believed there was one way to reuse a rocket: land it upright on its engines, the way SpaceX does. Today China refused to copy it, and pulled off something SpaceX never managed on a first flight. It caught the rocket instead. The Long March 10B lifted off from Hainan, China this morning, and about 6 minutes later its first stage came back down toward a 25,000-ton ship at sea. It did not land. Hooks on the falling booster snagged a net of tensioned steel wires strung across the deck, the wires riding robotic rails that slid into place to meet it. No landing legs. No touchdown. A rocket plucked out of its own descent by a moving net, on the maiden flight of a brand-new vehicle. No one handed China this. SpaceX guards its rocket tech as “trade secrets”, not “patents”, precisely so it cannot be read and copied. China watched a decade of public flights and then built an entirely different machine to reach the same prize, catching instead of landing, which sheds the heavy legs and spares the fuel a soft touchdown burns to hover. And this was never about cheaper satellites, though it delivers those too, feeding the thousands of birds in China's Starlink rival. Its deeper purpose is the Moon. That booster shares its core with the rocket meant to land Chinese astronauts on the lunar surface by 2030. In the same season, America's own Moon rocket, Starship, has flown 12 times and still has not shown the single maneuver its lunar plan depends on. One flight does not dethrone SpaceX. It has landed hundreds. What ended today is not SpaceX's lead. It is Uncle Sam’s belief that it owns the only road to the Moon. The piece works out which way of coming home actually wins.

After failed touch-and-gos to jar it loose, ground engineers diagnosed a faulty circuit breaker. With no tools aboard, Cotton grabbed a binder paperclip from his briefcase, shorted the breaker mid-flight-extending the gear. The malfunction caused hydraulic pressure to remain on 3 of the 4 main wheel brakes which led to the burn up of the Valkyrie main landing gear tires. Serious damage was avoided and the aircraft was able to fly again two weeks later. Tragically, AV-2 would be lost just weeks later in a midair collision with an F-104 chase plane.🫡
