Develop Better Finishing and Decision Making With This Fast Break Drill Here's a great 2v1 drill to improve ball handling, passing, scoring, and decision making out of fast break advantage situations from the Youth Coaching System with Jim Huber. Even though these are youth players in the video, it's... great for all ages! I actually got this drill from longtime college coach Don Kelbick. Drill Tips: -Attack and Think Lay Up! We got this drill from Don Kelbick and we teach the same mentality. You want to force the ball handler to attack and try to get a lay up. The only reason they pass is that the defender stops the ball. Personally, I’m okay if the initial ball handler takes some bad shots. I think having an assertive, attacking mentality will create more good things than bad. This mentality will eventually lead to more open passes for his teammate, because the defense will realize that they have to commit and stop the ball. -1 or 2 Pass Limit You could even add a pass limit of 1 or 2. That way, it’s more game like and they’re not going too slow. -Add a Countdown You could also introduce a time limit. If I see going too slow, I usually start saying, “3, 2, 1… “ and make a buzzer sound at zero. The kids actually enjoy it. -Make It 2v2 With a Trailing Defender It's also fun to add a trailing defender as another progression. You would simply add a 4th line somewhere in the middle of the floor. So you’d put a cone a little bit further in the middle of the court, so the trailing defender comes into the play a second or two later. -Change Offense and Defense Lines I also will switch up which lines are defense and offense, so players experience attacking the basket from all angles in transition. Perfect 1v1 Drill For Finding Your LOCKDOWN Defenders! Coach LoGalbo takes you through a drill that is perfect for finding your lockdown defenders that you can rely on when the lights turn on. As Nick LoGalbo says, it's a great way to find your "Rambo" which is a defender that you can rely on to defend your opponent’s best ball handler in the full court. And, an added offensive benefit to this drill, is that it allows for offensive players to work on their ball handling in the face of defensive pressure! This 1 on 1 Contain Drill is from Nick LoGalbo's Outer Third Defense (No Middle Defense). That's why the goal of this basketball drill is to force the opponent's primary ball handlers to the outer thirds of the basketball court (and out of the middle!) as soon as they catch the ball. By doing this, it allows the defense to dictate the entry pass to one side of the floor. By keeping the ball on the outer third of the basketball court, you can overload the backside of the defense which helps control the opponents passing lanes, deters easy passes and helps eliminate the dribble drive. You can incorporate this drill every other day in practice to re-emphasize to your defenders the importance of keeping the ball handlers out of the middle of the basketball court. Instructions and Keys to the 1 on 1 Contain Drill: - Give the ball handler a cushion. This makes it easier to contain them in the outer thirds. - Chest and contest a crossover to the middle. Introducing the “Get” action in basketball to lacrosse! The “Get” is a 2man action where a player passes the ball to another player and sprints to go “Get” it back on a handoff. This action has similar concepts and reads to pick and roll, but the picker is actually the ball handler! In lacrosse, we have been experimenting with Gets because it creates so many interesting situations and reads for the players. The way we teach it in small sided games is to have one offensive player declare “I’m shut” and the defense has to face-guard him. From there we pick for the shut off player trying to spring them free for the Get. The ball handler has to engage and control their defender, anticipating the shut player trying to get open. The shut player can backdoor if being overplayed towards the get (rejecting the get), receive a flip, or continue curling around the ball getting open for a late pass. The ball handler can feed the reject, flip the ball, or fake the flip to attack the goal or make a late pass to the shut payer curling to the goal. I’ve seen examples of this run in men’s and women’s DI lacrosse at Ohio State and Northwestern, respectively and I’ve run this myself when I was coaching HS girls lacrosse. You will also see on this reel a sick application for Gets vs. a common big-little invert coverage where the short stick doesn’t go behind with his man and plays “Safety” in front of the net. Gets are fun for the players, are incredible for teaching your players 2man game on and off ball, dealing with double teams, and creativity with passing, and can be used to score goals. The “Ozzie Drill.” In 1998, I was watching an interview on ESPN with Ozzie Smith, and he talked about his favorite drill…one that he uses to “improve, polish, and trust his glove instincts.” in the drill, Ozzie got on his knees and had a coach “Pepper” him from a short distance, and he had to let his hands work freely to pick or press the short hop or short in-between hop. No thinking … just trust. Get the brain out of the way. Because thinking is slow. I stayed awake at night thinking of ways I could modify this drill to work when working with a group of infielders. It hit me in the middle of one night. Woke up from a dead sleep of a way that we could make the drill very predictable and simplified. Once the foundation of the drill was built and mastered, I could grow the drill and make it unpredictable and much more challenging. ***The video below is a culmination of 26 years of teaching this drill. My son, Taber, grew up doing this drill as a little boy, HS player and college player. This video is him executing the Ozzie drill on his knees and feet when he was playing SS for UNCW. Four players are in a small space, like you see in the video, with three defenders. The defense has to get a steal in order to go on offense. The offense has to make 10 passes in a row to win the game. Coaches can change the space the players operate in, adjust the number of players in the game, and even combine their principles of play into it. For example, you could apply “zero-second decisions,” where players must pass immediately upon catching it, or it’s a turnover.

The 1 Drill To Meet All Your Rebounding Needs Some coaches don't believe in doing rebounding drills. They believe they can emphasize rebounding in everything they do without isolating it. I love that in theory. Unfortunately, it hasn't worked that well for me in reality. Coaches like Tom Izzo and Kelvin Sampson seem to agree. Michigan State and Houston are known for being 2 of the best rebounding teams in the country. I don't think it's a coincidence that they prioritize practicing rebounding. If you want your team to be elite on the boards, you must drill it in practice. Here's a versatile and game-like drill from 3v3 Drills For Offense & Defense with Coach Nick LoGalbo that will help your team dominate the glass. Setup: -Position 3 players around the perimeter -3 defensive players are in the paint Instructions: 1. The coach begins by throwing the ball to an offensive player. 2. All of the defenders close out. 3. The player who receives the pass shoots immediately. 4. The defenders must box out and grab the rebound. 5. Play is live until the ball is scored. The rebounding team does not have to take the ball out. Thus, if the defense does a good job boxing out and gathers the rebound close to the rim, they can immediately shoot. This continues until a basket is scored. 6. Each basket is worth 1 point. Play to 5.

COACHES: This is another HUGE pet peeve of mine. Players trying to do it all themselves and making a potential rush opportunity into a 1v1. The higher the level you play, the less likely a player will beat a defender 1v1. Especially on the rush. I see so many kids try to do it themselves - and if the kid is talented enough at the younger ages it potentially may work out. But as players advance to higher and higher levels, you rarely see anybody try to beat a defender 1v1. And even more rarely do you see anybody actually beat a defender 1v1. I see so many coaches rewarding kids at the younger ages for taking the puck from one end of the ice to the other and scoring. While it's great that a number goes on the scoreboard, you are doing a disservice to the kid's development. Because if that kid doesn't learn the value of passing and using their teammates, at some point this clip is going to happen to them. A LOT. And that player will eventually get passed by the kids that learned to play the right way with their teammates. On this clip the ANA player tries to do it all himself and the puck goes the other way and eventually ends up in the back of his net. It's hard enough to beat one person 1v1 in high level hockey, let alone skating the puck through multiple defenders. So coaches, please emphasize the value of using your teammates. I see this type of play SO OFTEN in youth hockey. Passing, hockey sense, playing with your head up, using your teammates...these skills translate to the next levels. Doing it yourself, even if it works as a young player, does not.

This is the Full Experience of what it is like to play a 1v1 against someone who Reaches EVERY SINGLE PLAY in NBA 2K24 👍🔥 I had 7 turnovers and still won the game 22-2... "Stop spam dribbling in front of the defender! They Should be able to rip you!" - I am simply running or do ONLY 1 move in every single one of these clips, and he gets steals INSTANTLY. The ball also TELEPORTS out of my hands mid dribble animation into the defender, which is a bug and is already being removed from the game. "Your build has no strength! Strength prevents steals!" - I have a 90 Strength and all my badges "Pass the ball and stop over dribbling" - I AM PLAYING THE (1v1 COURT) DO YOU WANT ME TO PASS TO CASPER THE GHOST IN THE CORNER OR SOMETHING????? "Stop complaining about steals, you only complain when it's to benefit you!" - I won 22-2 while having 7 turnovers bro...it's not to benefit me, it's to BALANCE THE GAME...a 5 year old could get 6 steals in a NBA 2K24 game, this should not be happening it doesn't make sense.

Say what you will about #Panthers WR TM4, but we are 15 weeks into the season and this was his first "body catch." I will add that I am a little surprised he didnt attack with his hands though. Yes, the ball could have been put more in front of TM4, but at the same time it is hitting him right in his number. I am just not one to put blame on a QB on a catchable ball, the game is too fast for every ball to be perfect.
