DEVELOPING: The Social Reckoning is reportedly going through reshoots as we speak, which is a worrisome sign for the film’s October release. Aaron Sorkin is in Vancouver leading the reshoots & the film is reportedly no longer premiering at the Venice Film Festival. I hope I’m wrong because I...

The Social Network sequel- The Social Reckoning- releases October 9th of this year. I’m definitely skeptical, mainly because David Fincher isn’t directing this film- that distinction belongs to Aaron Sorkin. I want this to work but I just can’t imagine it’s as good as the first.

Galaxy Quest is flawless. A totally perfect comedy. This film is at the top of the list whenever I need something to make me laugh- the satire is killer. Not to mention the casting is unbelievable- every last actor in this film is hilarious, especially Alan Rickman. I love this.

This is a warning. Embark on a cinematic trip to the future in 2073, the new film from Academy Award-winning director Asif Kapadia, starring Samantha Morton. Premiering tomorrow at the 81st Venice International Film Festival.

Aaron Sorkin’s The Social Reckoning is out on October 9th & not only is Sorkin directing, he’s writing. I’m not sure Sorkin will ever write anything better than The West Wing. The Social Network is obviously up there, but The West Wing’s razor-sharp dialogue & the way Sorkin is able to explore political angst makes this probably Sorkin’s highest peak. I also think his screenplay for The American President was a sign of things to come with The West Wing. Sorkin knows how to write a fictional president.

The Social Network’s sequel, The Social Reckoning, is set for an Oct. 9, 2026 release & it stars Jeremy Strong as Mark Zuckerberg. There’s no David Fincher directing this time around. That job belongs to Aaron Sorkin, who wrote the first film. Even without Fincher, I’m optimistic

Gangs of New York is a film I always think about on 9/11 because Martin Scorsese kept the Twin Towers in the film’s final time-lapse despite the attacks occurring about a year before the movie’s release in 2002. This entire film is Scorsese’s love-letter to the birth of New York. A film worth holding onto forever.

Amadeus- the film- is perfect. Flawless. No notes. For this reason, I have little to no desire to watch the new show Amadeus on Starz. I could lie & pretend like I’m going to give it a shot, but why is the show being made to begin with when this film- which is perfect- exists?

The Place Beyond The Pines is such a beautiful film- nearly every frame in this movie is picturesque. Culturally, I think this film flies under the radar a little, which might be because this is a long movie that meanders a little in the last third. But this film absolutely has its moments- including the very real on-screen chemistry between Ryan Gosling & Eva Mendes.

I could only give After the Hunt two stars. This feels exactly like a two-star film largely because the tone of this story is totally off, in addition to the fact this is just a boring movie. I’m disappointed with Luca Guadagnino. I love him dearly but this film was a misfire.

Boogie Nights is an astonishing film & the fact this is Paul Thomas Anderson’s second film blows my mind. I have no idea how he got Burt Reynolds, a living legend, to sign on to this film. I wish Reynolds would’ve won the Oscar, it would’ve made for a great Hollywood story.

Widows is a damn good film that was totally overlooked by The Academy. I’ve been thinking about this film more lately because it’s one of Robert Duvall’s final films. I love this entire cast. Every actor in this film is excellent. And it’s a great Chicago movie. It deserved more.

George Clooney says “the director is the painter and everything else is the paint” while delivering a masterclass at the Venice Film Festival: “An actor only affects [a film] as much as the director decides. I can change any actor’s performance as a director.” Clooney recalled filming “The Thin Red Line” with director Terrence Malick in Australia for months, only to be “completely cut out beside the last scene.”
