Development experts, please isn’t having a slab on a gutter better than open gutters?

In Ghana I will opt for open drains because our environment is heavily prone to sand and dust from the roads, drains fill up quickly. Covered slabs hide these blockages from view, making them harder to detect and much more difficult to desilt them

The kids who used to sit at the back of the class are now the leaders in the country bcos the smart ones decided to become doctors and engineers. Now everyone will suffer.

Well, I dont rgibk he's saying they should just break it. It's sanitisation day, and they are temporarily removing the heads to unclog the gutters. Firstly he's wrong for opening the shop in the first place. Secondly, he's wrong for putting his stuff on the gutter when they want to remove and work.

Ghana isn’t fully tarred. Sand from untarred roads will be washed into covered drains and clog them. If the slabs aren’t designed for easy access and maintenance, they’ll eventually contribute to flooding. It’s a great concept but only if maintenance is built into the design.

Hmmm I expected better from you though 🤔 In this country that law enforcement is seen as a crime and people through refuse in gutters when it’s raining?? How do you expect the shop owner to know when the gutter is covered and there’s a blockage?

This thing eh? These store owners take up the whole pavement and you will have to fighting to walk on the road with speeding cars… clear them all…

Ghana is not yet ready for covered drainage

In many places, covered gutters are the better option for safety and cleanliness. The real challenge is making sure they can still be accessed for desilting.

Nigerian man! Please it’s sanitation day and you are not offering essential services” Shouldn’t have opened the shop in the first place. Also as a foreigner you should even be interested in the development of this country but I guess not. My take is not about the gutter.

Hon @StanDogbe @GhanaPresidency @GhArmedForces please include in your directive all stores that sell on slabs should be fined 5000 penalty points and repeat offenders should be confined to cleaning the streets for a week.

Some of you celebrities make governance difficult. That part of town got flooded, they are cleaning all the gutters and paving way for better drainage. You are not complaining about the foreigner flouting the laws of our country. He has also displayed his goods on the pavement.

In Ghana, both approaches are okay Some locations, where maintenance and human behavior is proper, the slabbed drains are okay. Other locations, the open channels are the way to go.

It’s not the concept of open gutters that’s the problem — it’s the maintenance. In Ghana, they can easily fill with dirt and rubbish, whereas in Japan, some are so clean that they become attractive streams filled with fish, adding beauty to the community.
