DEWs (Direct Energy Weapons) Are Just A Conspiracy Theory

I was briefed on them in 2008. I was going to be trained on them but retired in 2010 and we had yet to implement the technology. Their existence is not in question for me. What I don't get is... which form of DEW was used, there are several types, and who pulled the trigger? If we follow the money... where do we end up?

China advertised its laser tech prior to coming out about having laser weapons. You may have seen those videos where they cut the tops of trees off with a laser? Ya, it was pretty easy to deduct that those tree-cutting lasers would also be used for military purposes.
