Dexy's Midnight Runners - "Dance Stance". (1979).The only post-punk track from this Celtic folk band. It’s got that total "The Jam" vibe. Kevin Rowland’s choppy, almost angry vocals are way closer to what New Wave singers were doing.

Their best era. A class above that "Come On Eileen" gypsy dross.

Searching for the young soul rebels is an album stuffed full of strong tracks. They were like a breath of fresh air when they started out but weirdly their most well known single came later - the dreadful, twee ‘Come on Eileen’.

Sorry this features Dexy's mighty Horn Section and is not Post Punk or anything like the Jam. Further it is a song about Irishness during the times of the Northern Irish troubles when this was a risky move for a pop act. It's unique sound of the time seemed to bamboozle all.

Jeez that track takes me back to a nightclub in Torquay in Dec 1979. They played all of the new releases. I remember prancing around on the dance floor to it with a girl I’d just met in there. Great memories that make me smile.
